A fast efficient power allocation algorithm for target localization in cognitive distributed multiple radar systems

It is well-known that the power allocation can enhance the power utilization of the distributed radar systems. We first analyze two interesting non-increasing properties of Cramer-Rao low bound (CRLB) for target location via distributed multiple radar systems. On the basis of the classical power allocation methods [15], this paper proposes a fast efficient power allocation algorithm applied to cognitive distributed multiple radar systems, which depends greatly on an alternating global search algorithm(AGSA). In this paper, our aim is directly to minimize the non-convex CRLB [15] of target location estimation. The convergence of the proposed algorithm is theoretically analyzed by LaSalle invariance principle. We analyze the computational complexity of the two closely-related algorithms. The famous Pareto optimal set associated with power allocation is obtained by the proposed algorithm, and it can indirectly derive the solution to problem for minimizing total power budget. Experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm has quick convergence and good performance. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

With the development of 5G technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) system is becoming more and more widely used in various fields. However, the reliability issue still hinders the wide applications. For instance, the transmission reliability of the IoT system will be significantly affected by the status of end devices, wireless channel quality, and the environment. Moreover, according to the Automatic Repeat-reQuest (ARQ) retransmission mechanism in the 802.15.4 protocol, if the IoT end devices pursue a conservative power model causing low signal transmission power, it is likely that the signal power will lose too much during the transmission process. This will result in the increase of the network packet loss rate and the power consumption during the data retransmission. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a reasonable transmission power allocation algorithm to ensure the transmission reliability, considering the ARQ retransmission mechanism. The algorithm intends to find the optimal transmission power of each IoT end device, so as to minimize the total energy consumption. The simulation results demonstrate that the power allocation algorithm improves the reliability of the IoT system, compared with other algorithms.

OFDM technology will become the key technique in broadband wireless communication system in future due to its advantages in suppressing effectively the fading channels and of high rate of spectrum usage efficiency. The adaptive modulation technology in OFDM system can choose proper modulation methods and signal power for every sub-channel, which improves greatly the system performance. To study on the adaptive modulation technology in OFDM system is significant for the development and applications of the broadband wireless communication system in the future. This essay proposes an adaptive modulation technology suitable for the OFDM system with fixed rate. The algorithm combines the sub-band division with the greedy allocation algorithm to simplify the algorithm complexity. Through gathering the adjacent sub-channels together and allocating the same number of bits to them, the signaling overhead in practical application can be reduced effectively. Through choosing different sub-band width, the complexity of the algorithm can be adjusted flexibly. And good compromise can be made between the algorithm complexity and the performance. Compared to the existing molecular band adaptive allocation algorithm, in the condition of the same performance, new algorithm has lower complexity. The new algorithm proposed in this essay has high application flexibility and is suitable for practical applications.

Fast and efficient parallel-shift water-filling algorithm for power allocation in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-based underlay cognitive radios

Water-Filling (WF) is widely applied in power allocation in multichannel wireless communications. By mathematically linearising the optimal WF expression, the authors observe an intrinsic parallel-shift property of WF, based on which a fast and efficient WF algorithm is proposed. Compared with the conventional WF algorithms, it greatly simplifies WF execution by removing the Lagrange multiplier (or water-level) searching process. The authors further apply the proposed parallel-shift WF to solve the power allocation problem in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based underlay cognitive radios (CRs), with the objective of maximising the secondary user's throughput over all OFDM sub-channels under the transmit power and the interference constraints. To this end, the existing algorithm adopts an iterative binary searching process to find the solution, where the conventional WF algorithm with Lagrange multiplier searching is invoked in each iteration. In contrast, the authors propose a new power allocation algorithm to remove the iterative binary searching process. It runs the simplified parallel-shift WF only once, and then directly calculates the final solution using a power adjustment process (with the parallel-shift property as the underlying enabling mechanism). Numerical results show that both the proposed parallel-shift WF and the OFDM-based CR power allocation algorithms can run multiple times faster than the existing counterparts, and the gap on the running time increases with the total number of OFDM sub-channels in the system.

In recent years, a lot of power allocation algorithms have been proposed to maximize spectral efficiency (SE) and energy efficiency (EE) for the distributed antenna systems (DAS). However, the traditional iterative power allocation algorithms are difficult to be implemented in reality because of their high computational complexity. With the development of machine learning algorithms, it has been proved that the machine learning method has excellent learning ability and low computational complexity, which can approximate the traditional iterative power allocation well and be easily to be implemented in reality. In this paper, we propose a new deep neural network (DNN) model for DAS. From the perspective of machine learning, traditional iterative algorithms can be regarded as a nonlinear mapping between user channel realizations and optimal power allocation schemes. Therefore, we train the DNN to learn the nonlinear mapping between the user channel realizations and the corresponding power allocation schemes based on the traditional iterative algorithm. Then, a power allocation schemes based on DNN method is developed to maximize SE and EE for DAS. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can not only obtain the almost similar performance as the traditional iterative algorithm, but also reduce much online computational time.

A power allocation grouping scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based Cognitive Radio systems is proposed that can improve capacity while the interference power for primary user receivers stays at constant level. In this scheme, all idle subcarriers are divided into four groups based on the inserted interference power level into the primary user frequency band. Then, the power is allocated to subcarriers in two stages. At the first stage, considering interference constraint, the power is assigned to subcarriers into groups 1, 2 and 3. At the second stage, the remaining power is allocated to other idle subcarriers with water filling algorithm. The numerical results show that the capacity is improved by 20 bps up to 45 bps with the increase in maximum power budget over cognitive radio system. Indeed, the interference power level is unchanged with increasing the transmit power for proposed cognitive radio system.

As one of the promising technologies of the future 6G network, Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) is able to provide tremendous benefits such as performance improvement and cost reduction through integrating the two systems as a whole. The use of ISAC technology will introduce new sensing abilities and enhance information processing capabilities at base stations, and makes the interaction between base stations and vehicles more frequent, which brings huge benefits to connected automated vehicles(CAV). If the BS only transmits the single beam at a given period, the sensing functions will not be guaranteed as there are blind zone and other issues. Therefore, we propose a multi-beam model for the ISAC downlink transmission. Furthermore, considering the uneven distribution of resources among different users, an ISAC multi-beam power allocation algorithm is proposed. Such convex optimization problem is solved using CVX toolbox and optimal solutions are obtained. The simulation results show that compared with the traditional average power allocation and water filling algorithms, proposed algorithm will improve the total communication rate for multi-user scenario, and provide a satisfied sensing accuracy of less than 1m sensing error.

Time and power allocation for Energy Efficiency Maximization in Wireless-powered Full-Duplex Relay Systems

In this paper, we propose an optimal time and power allocation scheme in a wireless power supply full-duplex (FD) relay system, where we consider the number of relay antennas in the energy harvesting stage. At the same time, the energy efficiency optimization problem of the system is structured, where optimization issues related to time allocation factors and power allocation are established. For the FD dual-antenna and the FD single-antenna energy harvesting system, energy efficiency function is proven to be a concave function over the time-switch factor, and the optimal time-switching factor is theoretically obtained using the Lambert function. Then, according to the given value range of the optimal time switching factor, the optimal power distribution scheme is obtained by analyzing the derivative function of the system energy efficiency and using the properties of the Lambert function. The time-switching factor and transmission power are optimally selected at the wireless power supply FD relay. Results reveal that the performance of energy efficiency of the dual-antenna energy harvesting at the FD relay outperforms that of the single-antenna. Moreover, our results demonstrate that FD relay systems always substantially boost the energy efficiency compared with half-duplex (HD) relay systems.

Successive convex approximation for rate maximisation in cooperative multiple-input-multiple-output-orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing systems

In this study, the authors propose a continuous rate and power allocation algorithm for multiuser downlink multiple-input-multiple-output orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing systems with coordinated multi-point transmission. The optimisation problem is formulated as a weighted sum-rate maximisation problem subject to per-antenna power constraints across multiple cooperating base stations (BSs). The practical consideration of the per-antenna power constraint limits the average transmit antenna power which indirectly controls the inherent issue of high peak powers in OFDM. The proposed algorithm employs a successive convex approximation (SCA) technique to dynamically allocate powers to multiple co-channel user terminals. They provide a convexity proof of the transformed optimisation problem and they show that the proposed algorithm converges to a unique solution. They compare the proposed SCA algorithm with two alternative approaches: (i) iterative waterfilling (IWF) and (ii) zero-forcing beamforming (ZFB) with semi-orthogonal user selection under both per-antenna and per-BS power constraint scenarios. Their simulation results highlight that the proposed SCA algorithm outperforms the existing IWF and ZFB in noise-limited environments under both power constraint scenarios.

An efficient data rate maximization algorithm for OFDM based wireless networks

In this paper we present a computationally efficient, suboptimal integer bit allocation algorithm that maximizes the overall data rate in multiuser orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems implemented in wireless networks Assuming the complete knowledge of a channel and allowing a subchannel to be simultaneously shared by multiple users we have solved this data rate maximization problem in two steps The first step provides subchannel assignment to users considering the users. requests on quality of service (QoS) expressed as the minimum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) on each subchannel. The second step provides transmit power and bit allocation to subchannels in order to maximize the overall data rate To reduce computational complexity of the problem we propose a simple method which assigns subchannels to users and distributes power and bits among them We have analyzed the performance of our proposed algorithm simulation ill a multiuser frequency selective fading environment for various signal-to-noise ratios and Various numbers of users in the system. We have Concluded that our algorithm, unlike other similar algorithms, is Suitable for OFDM wireless networks, especially when signal-to-noise ratio in the channel is low. Also, the results have shown that the total data rate grows with the number of users in the system
