Minimum Sum-Mean-Square-Error Frequency-Domain pre-coding for Downlink Multi-User MIMO System in the Frequency-Selective Fading Channel

This paper proposes a new frequency-domain pre-coding algorithm for the downlink multi-user MIMO system in a frequency-selective fading channel, where each user is equipped with multiple antennas. The proposed algorithm is based on the minimum sum-mean-square-error (Min-SMSE) criterion, which is able to eliminate both the multi-user and multi-antenna interferences, resulting in an improved bit error rate (BER) performance. Compared with the traditional optimal Min-SMSE algorithm, the proposed algorithm can reduce the computational complexity through simplifying the iterative and power allocation processes. Furthermore, the theoretical BER and ergodic sum-rate are derived in detail. In addition, we define and analyze the complexity of the pre-coding algorithms. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm compares favorably with the optimal Min-SMSE and traditional block diagonalization (BD) algorithms in the sense of the ergodic sum-rate due to the approximately equal power allocation. The BER performance of the proposed algorithm is close to that of the optimal one and much better than that of the BD algorithm in both the uncorrelated and correlated channels. Moreover, the computational complexity of the sub-optimal Min-SMSE algorithm is significantly less than that of its optimal counterpart, especially in the low SNR region.

pre-coding is a general understanding of beam-forming to achieve the transmission diversity of the signal. Basically transmitter sends the information which is already coded according to the known knowledge about the channel conditions to the receiver. The pre-coding technique leads to achieve a good performance by eliminating the degradation effects even in the correlation environment upon the channel in the communication system. In this paper, the different detection algorithms: Zero forcing (ZF), Minimum mean square error (MMSE) and Block diagonalization (BD) are used in pre-coding. Many solutions have been proposed for the Co-Channel Interference problem. The main aim of this paper is to select the most suitable coding techniques to adopt. The analysis is carried by assuming the channel as Rayleigh and modulation scheme is QPSK with 4x4 MIMO system.

Frequency-agile vector signal generation based on optical frequency comb and pre-coding

In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate the generation of frequency-agile vector signals based on an optical frequency comb (OFC) and unbalanced pre-coding technology by employing a dual-driven Mach-Zehnder Modulator (DD-MZM) and an intensity modulator (IM). The OFC is generated by the DD-MZM and sent to the IM as a carrier. The IM is driven by a 5 GHz 2 Gbaud quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) vector signal with unbalanced pre-coding. The -1st order sideband of one OFC line and the + 1st order sideband of another OFC line are selected by a programmable pulse shaper (PPS), after square-low photodiode detection, the frequency-agile vector signal can be obtained. The results show that the 2 Gbaud QPSK vector signals at 30 GHz, 50 GHz, 70 GHz and 90GHz can be generated by only pre-coding once. It is possible to achieve a bit-error-rate (BER) below 1e-3 for wireless transmissions over 0.5m using this method.

In this paper we consider a novel design of space-time block code combined with pre-coding module transmission system. Theory of orthogonal designs has shown that such code cannot be simultaneously orthogonal, of rate 1, with full diversity order, for more than 2 transmit antennas. We propose in this paper a new way to overcome this limitation by adding a pre-coding module before transmitting space-time block signals, this scheme is a rate 1 coding scheme with full diversity, and is also an orthogonal one thanks to the new adding pre-coding weights.

Fast Receive Antenna Subset Selection for pre-coding Aided Spatial Modulation

In the literature, the pre-coding aided spatial modulation (PSM) is designed only for the symmetric and the underdetermined multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. In this letter, we study the PSM in the over-determined MIMO system where the receive antenna subset (RAS) selection is considered. The optimal selection criterion is first given, and a fast greedy incremental algorithm is then proposed. The proposed algorithm constructs the RAS by adding antennas one by one, where the low-complexity recursive computation of the matrix inverse can be further employed. Simulation results show that the proposed fast algorithm can achieve most of the antenna selection gain with very low complexity.

Spectral pre-coding is a capable method to restrain Out-Of-Band Emission (OOBE) and act in accordance with leaking parameters over neighboring frequency channels while masking unnecessary emissions. Nevertheless, spectral pre-coding might deform the real data vector that is articulated as the Error Vector Magnitude (EVM), which shows a harmful effect on the performance of Multiple-Input Multiple -Output-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM)-oriented schemes. In this research, a new Mapper Reducer for spectral pre-coded signal (MaReSPS) for energy-constrained signal receiver is proposed for energy efficient spectral precoding in the MIMO-OFDM system. This model involves Mapper Reducer (MR) framework for detecting the received signal, which renders an error rate, and graceful degradation is observed in the throughput under channel uncertainty. The proposed scheme alleviates the resultant Transmit EVM (TxEVM) observed at the receiver by capitalizing on the massive MIMO system, and as a result the throughput is improved. The comparison is done with respect to Block Error Rate (BLER), throughput, and Power Spectral Density (PSD) for proving the betterment of the proposed precoding model for MIMO-OFDM. In particular, the normalized throughput for conventional No OOBE Reduction (OOBER), Mask Compliant Spectral pre-coder (MSP), Notching Spectral pre-coder + Zero Forcing (NSP + ZF), P1/P2: CVX and P1/P2: Top-Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) models, as well as proposed MaReSPS model, is lower at a Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) from 0 dB to 15 dB. With an increase in SNR, the normalized throughput increases and when SNR =40 dB, the normalized throughput values reach their peak values. The physical-layer network coding (PNC) is very attractive, since it takes full advantages of interference signals at the relay node, therefore improves the channel capacity significantly. However, the flat fading channel would destroy the sum signal received at relay node, leading to detection error and capacity damage. In this paper, a pre-coding scheme for the multi-user PNC (MU PNC) is proposed, to make the modulated signal from different source nodes holding the same phase rotation when received by the relay node, so that to eliminate the mutual interferences. The theoretical and simulation analysis indicate that the pre-coding can improve the symbol error rate (SER) performance as well as capacity, meanwhile it also simplifies the structure of receiver at relay node.

Forward-error-correction (FEC) codes have become an integral part of high-speed wireline links. Signal-to-noise ratio, minimum mean-squared error, and pre-FEC BER are common performance metrics used to design and optimize link parameters, such as the tap coefficients in feed-forward and decision-feedback equalizers. This paper shows that the equalizer parameters found by conventional methods do not necessarily minimize post-FEC BER due to the unaccounted-for negative impact of DFE error propagation on FEC performance. However, the introduction of 1/(1+D) pre-coding eliminates long error bursts so that both pre-FEC and post-FEC BER are minimized with the same equalizer coefficients. These observations may have implications on the architecture and optimization of wireline transceivers.

The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the network performance of a cooperative diversity-based wireless body area network (WBAN) by using (2,2) Alamouti's space-time block code (STBC) with pre-coding scheme (STBC-PC) and a relay selection procedure (RSP). The considered WBAN model is served for healthcare service in order to mitigate the undesired effects of WBAN due to high path loss and fading as well as to keep a low transmit power while meeting to the desired WBAN quality of services. In this paper, the pre-coding scheme is taken to be employed in conjunction with the STBC, since a single antenna of each wireless sensor node in healthcare service can be exploited possibly as well as the high gain can still be achieved without loss of transmission rate. A channel model CM3 B is considered for computing the actual path loss of each WBAN link and the network performance is evaluated in terms of bit error rate (BER). The simulation results confirm that at each BER value, SNRs of STBC-PC without direct link (line-of-sight or LOS) scheme are the lowest which is compared with direct link, receive diversity and MRC, and (2,2) Alamouti's STBC. BER values of DQPSK-based STBC-PC are higher than those of DBPSK-based STBC-PC. Moreover, although any WBAN sensor nodes are chosen as a relay or any type of modulations are employed in STBC-PC with LOS, all of BER values have surprisingly the same trend.
