To meet the increasing demands of high sensing accuracy and high data rate in the intelligent applications of forthcoming 6th generation (6G) mobile communication systems, a precoding optimization scheme is presented for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems. We employ the precoding matrix as the decision variable, the sensing mutual information (MI) as the objective function, and pre-defined signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) levels for each communication user equipment (UE) and transmit power budget as constraints to formulate the MIMO-OFDM ISAC precoding optimization model. We further propose a rank-1 optimization algorithm, which converts the non-convex optimization problem to a semidefinite program problem using the semidefinite relaxation method and obtains the globally optimal rank-1 solution. Compared to existing benchmark method, our proposed algorithm achieves a superior performance tradeoff between sensing and communication, resulting in higher sensing MI and more focused transmit beam energy in the target direction of the radar beampattern while effectively suppressing interference and noise. We conduct extensive simulations to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of our presented precoding optimization scheme for MIMO-OFDM ISAC systems, which leads to an improvement in sensing MI by about 40% compared to the benchmark method.

A probabilistic shaping (PS) scheme applied to Faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) signaling is proposed firstly to obtain shaping gain. Secondly, a precoding optimization algorithm based on maximizing average mutual information (AMI) criterion for FTN PS system is proposed to get precoding gain, which uses bare bones particle swarms optimization (BB-PSO) algorithm. The theoretical AMI analysis of the proposed precoded FTN PS scheme are analyzed and turn out that the proposed precoded FTN PS scheme is superior to the conventional Nyquist regular system. Compared with the Nyquist regular system, we can get FTN gain, PS gain, and precoding gain for the proposed precoded FTN PS system. The gains of the simulation results coincide well with that obtained from the theoretical analysis. When spectral efficiency (SE) is 2.778 bits/s/Hz, compared with the 16QAM Nyquist regular system, the proposed 16QAM precoded FTN PS scheme has a total 1.85 dB theoretical gain, where the simulation results in the 16QAM precoded FTN PS scheme show that the simulated gain is 1.65 dB. When SE is 3.333 bits/s/Hz, compared with the 64QAM Nyquist regular system, the proposed 16QAM precoded FTN PS scheme has a total 1.65 dB theoretical gain, where the simulation results in the 16QAM precoded FTN PS scheme show that the simulated gain is 2.15 dB. The results show that the proposed precoded FTN PS scheme is an efficient scheme with a significant improvement in terms of the AMI and the system error performance, and thus suitable for the sixth generation (6G) communication system.

In this paper, we investigate the uplink transmission in a cellular network from a UAV and ground users to ground base stations (BSs). Specifically, we aim to maximize the sum rate of the uplink from the UAV to ground BSs in a specific idle frequency band as well as from the co-channel users to their associated BSs by optimizing precoding vectors at UAV. To mitigate the interference, we apply successive interference cancellation (SIC) not only to the BSs connected with UAV using non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) for transmission, but also to other BSs communicating with ground users in the same band. The precoding optimization problem with constraints on the SIC decoding and the uplink transmission rate is formulated, which is non-convex and intractable. Thus, we introduce auxiliary variables and apply first-order approximations based on Taylor expansion to convert it into a second-order cone programming. An iterative algorithm is proposed with low complexity to calculate the solution to the non-convex precoding optimization problem. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is an up-and-coming technique for future 6G networks. However, the communication message carried by the detection waveform will face the risk of being eavesdropped, which leads to the challenge of wireless security for ISAC networks. In this paper, we leverage non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) to support more users for the ISAC network, with the precoding well designed to guarantee the security. Specifically, we formulate a joint precoding optimization problem to maximize the sum secrecy rate for multiple users via artificial jamming, where the superimposed signal for NOMA users can be concurrently employed for the target detection. Since the optimization problem is non-convex, it is transformed into a convex one based on successive convex approximation (SCA), where the Taylor's approximation and second-order cone (SOC) constraint are further applied. Then, we propose an iterative algorithm, through which the original optimization problem can be solved effectively. Simulation results show that the proposed secure NOMA-ISAC scheme can guarantee the secure transmission while ensuring the sensing performance.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are playing an important role in wireless networks, due to their cost effectiveness and flexible deployment. Particularly, integrating UAVs into existing cellular networks has great potential to provide high-rate and ultra-reliable communications. In this paper, we investigate the uplink transmission in a cellular network from a UAV using non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and from ground users to base stations (BSs). Specifically, we aim to maximize the sum rate of uplink from UAV to BSs in a specific band as well as from the UAV's co-channel users to their associated BSs via optimizing the precoding vectors at the multi-antenna UAV. To mitigate the interference, we apply successive interference cancellation (SIC) not only to the UAV-connected BSs, but also to the BSs associated with ground users in the same band. The precoding optimization problem with constraints on the SIC decoding and the transmission rate requirements is formulated, which is non-convex. Thus, we introduce auxiliary variables and apply approximations based on the first-order Taylor expansion to convert it into a second-order cone programming. Accordingly, an iterative algorithm is designed to obtain the solution to the problem with low complexity. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme.

A Unified Rate-Splitting Framework for Secure Spectrum Sharing via Joint precoding optimization

To handle the security problem of cognitive radio (CR) systems, secondary users (SUs) are able to be designed to assist the primary user (PU) in secure transmission. To realize the spectrum sharing among CR users, we adopt the rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) properly, with nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and space division multiple access (SDMA) as its special cases. In this article, we set up a unified rate-splitting framework to guarantee the safe spectrum sharing through multiple multiaccess strategies, without the knowledge of wiretap channels. The precoding vectors at the transmitter are conjointly designed to boost the transmission of common stream, which is from both PU and SU. Besides, the private stream of the downlink CR system can be well secreted in the high-power common signal. As for NOMA and SDMA, when the message of SU is regarded as the friendly jamming signal, the security transmission requirement of PU can be similarly guaranteed via precoding design. Simulations validate that the rate-splitting framework we established can be effective in ensuring the spectrum sharing security for the secure users through RSMA, and the security for NOMA and SDMA is also able to be promoted through adjusting our designed framework.

Combination of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is deemed as an promising solution to achieving massive connectivity in future wireless networks. In this paper, a UAV-aided NOMA scheme is proposed to achieve simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) and guarantee the secure transmission for ground passive receivers (PRs), in which the nonlinear energy harvesting model is applied. Each time frame is divided into two phases. In the first phase, the received power at each PR is maximized to achieve rapid charging. In the second phase, SWIPT is performed via NOMA with the remaining energy at each PR, and artificial jamming is generated at UAV together with the NOMA information to guarantee the security. The throughput of PRs is maximized, with the highest received jamming power cancelled at each PR via successive interference cancellation (SIC). This disrupts the eavesdropping effectively by jamming without affecting the legitimate transmission. Due to the non-convexity of these two optimization problems, we first convert them to convex ones and then propose iterative algorithms to solve them. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

The spectral efficiency of wireless networks can be made nearly infinitely large by deploying many antennas, but the deployment of very many antennas requires new topologies beyond the compact and discrete antenna arrays used by conventional base stations. In this paper, we consider the large intelligent surface scenario where small antennas are deployed on a large and dense two-dimensional grid. Building on the heritage of MIMO, we first analyze the beamwidth and sidelobes when transmitting from large intelligent surfaces. We compare different precoding schemes and determine how to optimize the transmit power with respect to different utility functions.
