Linear precoding for Far-End CrossTalk (FEXT) cancellation is supported by the first release of the next generation DSL standard *** utilizing bandwidth up to 106 MHz. The cancellation precoding for the second release (bandwidth up to 212 MHz with much stronger FEXT) has not been standardized yet. Non-linear Tomlinson-Harashima Precoding (THP) is a promising candidate as it outperforms the linear precoding. Nevertheless, sequential processing of THP introduces unfavorable additional delay proportional to the number of lines. In this paper, we focus on non-linear precoding based on Lattice Reduction aided Zero-Forcing (ZF-LR) which can be implemented in parallel without any sequential processing delay. ZF-LR precoding has been proposed in wireless scenario using scalar scaling to adjust average transmit power. We modify this scheme to comply with per-line per-carrier power constraint and enable power control of each line individually (e.g., to adapt power for different line lengths). Optimized Power Allocation (OPA) for the modified scheme maximizing weighted sum-rate leads to the signomial optimization problem. Similarly to THP, ZF-LR precoding with OPA outperforms the linear precoding as well.

This paper considers a multi-cell multi-group massive MIMO multicasting system. It is assumed the system has L cells, where each cell has N groups of K single antenna users. The users in each group are interested to the same message and they form a multicasting group. In this paper first, we present a precoding scheme that asymptotically removes the interference and noise and provide infinite signal to interference plus noise ratio, when the channel state information is available at the base station. Second, we propose a channel state information acquisition scheme using uplink training and channel reciprocity based on time division duplexing operation. The main difference of the proposed method with the common methods in the literature is that it decreases the number of required orthogonal training sequences for channel state information acquisition from NK to N. Third, we elaborate the effect of pilot contamination on the proposed training and precoding and present the asymptotic performance of multi-cell multi-group massive MIMO Multicasting systems under pilot contamination. Also we show for these systems even in the asymptote the signal to interference plus noise is bounded by a known upper bound. Finally we revise the proposed multicasting scheme such that we can achieve an infinite signal to interference plus noise ratio in the asymptote even when accounting for channel state information acquisition and under pilot contamination.

Next generation long term evolution (LTE) systems evolve towards small cell networks (SCNs) to enable the tremendous data growth through extreme frequency reuse. However, shrinking the cell size to boost the spectral efficiency comes at the expense of increased co-channel interference (CCI) and is the dominant limiting factor from achieving higher network capacities. Consequently, downlink (DL) scenarios in the cell edge become particularly crucial, as the user equipment (UE) is typically surrounded with multiple interfering small cells. To overcome this limitation, in this paper we focus on cooperative interference mitigation schemes where UEs in good channel condition empower the cell edge UE to mitigate the CCI through linear precoding schemes. We provide a practical realization of the cooperative interference mitigation precoding scheme and determine the set of reference signal configuration to enable the promised performance in unsynchronized SCNs with varying timing offsets (TOs) among the receive signals. With simulation results at the link level, we show that estimating and compen-sating the TO reliable channel state information (CSI) can be achieved for the non-colliding CSI mapping scheme and as a result near optimum DL transmission can be achieved at the cell edge UE in practical SCNs.

Multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) systems can achieve high spectral efficiency for wireless communication. The design of optimal transmit precoding for max-sum-rate (MSR) MU-MIMO downlink transmission is a non-trivial problem. Recent research approached this problem by exploiting the relationship between max-sum-rate and the minimum-mean-squared-error (MMSE) and proposed several iterative schemes. Based on these research results, we propose enhanced iterative MSR algorithms for linear MU-MIMO precoding which improve the sum rate performance and reduce the computational complexity. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by numerical simulations.

Tomlinson-Harashima precoding (THP) is a pre-compensation method, which is exactly fitted to the channel impulse response in order to completely compensate for its linear impairments, and it is in-fact a generalization of partial response precoding. THP is very popular in the field of wireless communications, namely in multi-input multi-output (MIMO) scenarios. It offers an alternative to the decision-feedback equalizer (DFE) with the possibility to apply channel coding conjunctively. In this paper, the compatibility of THP with fiber-optic communication systems is investigated. Different configurations of THP are considered and compared with DFE by means of performance and complexity. Results are examined for 4QAM modulation, where the length of the transmission link and the number of equalizer coefficients are varied. In addition, the effect of the receiver filter's bandwidth on the performance of THP is evaluated. In the second step, possible scenarios for using THP in a fiber-optic system, as well as challenges, which result from properties of the system and equalizer, are addressed and discussed.

Complex field network coding has been shown to achieve a throughput of 1/2 symbol per user per channel use in a multi-way relay channel (MWRC). To achieve this throughput, a superimposed combination of user symbols must be distinguishable at the relay. In [1], precoding vectors were designed for an MWRC with all users employing the same rectangular quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) constellation. These precoding vectors guarantee that every superimposed combination of user symbols at the relay is distinguishable and a QAM constellation is received. There are many precoding vectors with such properties. In this paper, we consider a more general problem in which each user can employ an arbitrary rectangular QAM constellation and we design a precoding vector for the users such that the power efficiency of the received rectangular QAM constellation at the relay is maximized.

Past studies on Cooperative Multi-Point (CoMP) Processing/Base Station Cooperation (BSC) technique have shown its potential for system capacity improvement. However, many of the previous studies ignore a fact that in a network where multiple CoMP groups co-exist, the interference between CoMP groups would significantly decrease each of the CoMP groups' performance. To combat this Interference between CoMP groups, we propose a novel precoding technique - Maximum Eigenmode Transmission (MET) CoMP precoding, which is able to effectively combat such interference and achieves 90% better performance than the conventional method in a multi-group CoMP network.

In the paper, we propose a novel transmit precoding named "nonlinear block multi-diagonalization (NL-BMD) precoding," composed of block multi-diagonalization and adjacent inter-user interference pre-cancellation, for multiuser MIMO downlink toward 5G. It is revealed through computer simulations that, the proposed NL-BMD precoding yields up to 77% performance improvement in average sum-rate throughput and enables large-capacity transmission regardless of the user configuration, compared with the conventional block diagonalization precoding.

This paper proposes a statistical-eigenmode space-division multiple-access (SE-SDMA) transmission for a two-user downlink system where two transmit antennas are equipped at the base station and each mobile user has one receive antenna, assuming that only statistical channel state information (CSI) is available at the transmitter. By maximizing a lower bound of the ergodic signal-to-leakage-and-noise ratio, the proposed SE-SDMA approach selects two users with orthogonal principal statistical eigen-directions and transmits to each user along the corresponding eigenmode. We derive an exact expression of the ergodic achievable rate, and compare it with the zero-forcing beamforming (ZFBF) system exploiting instantaneous CSI. It is shown that SE-SDMA can achieve the maximum ergodic sum-rate of the two selected users, and provide significant user selection gain. Analytical and simulation results show that the rate gap between SE-SDMA and ZFBF with perfect CSI at the transmitter can tend to zero in highly correlated channels, which indicates that statistical precoding can be used instead of instantaneous precoding in certain environments.

This paper proposes a novel cascaded precoding scheme at the base station to adapt to both long-term and short-term channel variations in higher-order MIMO systems which are supported in 3GPP LTE-Advanced. The proposed precoding scheme includes a long-term precoding followed by a short-term precoding, where the former bases on the channel statistical eigenmodes, adapting to the long-term channel variations and the latter bases on the LTE Rel. 8 codebook, adapting to the short-term channel variations. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can achieve a high spectral efficiency while guaranteeing a given codeword error ratio target. And when compared with the precoding scheme using the codebook for LTE-Advanced which is finally fixed recently in one of the 3GPP's proposals, the proposed scheme has a comparable performance but a reduced complexity due to the codebook size and long-term feedback interval.
