In the scenario of dynamic spectrum access application for cognitive radio (CR), the spectrum-sidelobe problem of OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) must be considered. A precoding ahead of IDFT (inverse discrete Fourier transformation) is presented to suppress the in-band-out-of-subband (IBOSB) radiation. Its design is based on generalized eigenvalue problem. In order to improve its performance for practical application, one column of the precoding matrix can be inverted to reduce the signal peak-to-average-power-ratio (PAPR) to a lower level. At the receiver, iterative soft detection with interference cancelation is adopted to detect the precoded data and further employs the frequency diversity. Both methods introduce some additional transceiver complexity compared with pure precoding, whereas simulations show that joint design not only provides improved PAPR statistics, but also achieves the markedly gain of Bit-Error-Rate (BER) performance over multipath fading channel.

The dual polarised MIMO land mobile satellite channel offers spatial multiplexing gain for mobile broadcasting systems. Antenna diversity in satellite systems is difficult to obtain, due to the nature of the satellite channel and the absence of scatterers in the vicinity of the satellite transmitter;therefore dual polarisation offers a potential solution in achieving diversity. Receiver based equalisation has been explored for the LMS channel to date;this paper aims to explore the potential of transmitter based equalisation by investigating existing precoders and their performance in the dual polarised MIMO LMS channel. The case of a single-user is considered in which interference arises from cross-polarisation effects caused by propagation between two orthogonally circularly polarised transmit and receive antennas. To mitigate the effects of interference on the performance of the channel, precoding algorithms are implemented on the data to be transmitted whilst assuming channel state information at the transmitter is available. Linear precoding techniques, i.e. channel inversion, regularised channel inversion, selective channel inversion & correlation rotation, in addition to the nonlinear precoding technique, Tomlinson-Harashima Precoding, are implemented and the error performance is investigated in three user environments;open rural, suburban and urban. The effects of the power loss and the increased dynamic range of the signal associated with each precoder are explored. The precoding analysis has been conducted using channel measurements recently obtained during the MIMOSA campaign conducted by the European Space Agency (ESA).

We consider a two-way relaying system employing physical layer network coding in channels suffering from frequency-selective fading. In order to mitigate the distortions introduced by the channel, Tomlinson-Harashima precoding is applied at the source nodes. We introduce an optimal precoding scheme that provides intersymbol interference free source-to-relay transmission without requiring identical overall channel impulse responses, which is in contrast to previously proposed equalization approaches. The performance of our novel approach is compared against that of a benchmark precoding scheme, motivated by the optimal decision-feedback equalization for physical layer network coding, which creates identical overall channel impulse responses in order to be able to use identical feedback filters for precoding at both source nodes.

In this paper we research that using the precoding based on signal-to-leakage-and-noise ratio (SLNR) to reduce the inter-carrier interference (XI) of multi-user multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MMO-OFDM system. Firstly, a model of MIMO-OFDM with precoding system is introduced Based on the model we get the algorithm of the precoding matrix. Through simulation and analysis, the ICI of MIMO-OFDM system with precoding is reduced, otherwise, the complexity of the receiver does not increase, so the method adapts to the downlink especially.

A closed-form precoding scheme using the knowledge of transmit coupling and spatial covariance matrices is proposed, which ensures that the achievable rate increases with the number of transmit antennas when the size of the transmit antenna array is fixed and the radiated power, but not the amplifier output power, is constrained. Eigenvalue-proportional power allocation is employed in this precoding scheme. Simulation shows that the performance of eigenvalue-proportional power allocation is close to that of covariance matrix based waterfilling power allocation. Energy efficiency of different schemes is evaluated and compared.

Lattice precoding is an effective strategy for multiantenna broadcast. In this paper, we show that approximate lattice precoding in multiantenna broadcast is a variant of the closest vector problem (CVP) known as eta-CVP. The proximity factors of lattice reduction-aided precoding are defined, and their bounds are derived, which measure the worst-case loss in power efficiency compared to sphere precoding. Unlike decoding applications, this analysis does not suffer from the boundary effect of a finite constellation, since the underlying lattice in multiantenna broadcast is indeed infinite.

The integer-forcing receiver architecture has recently been proposed as a high-performance, yet low-complexity, equalization scheme, that is applicable when all data streams are encoded with the same linear code. It was further shown in [1], that this receiver architecture, when coupled with spacetime linear precoding is able to achieve the capacity of the openloop multiple-input multiple-output channel, up to a constant gap that depends only on the number of transmit antennas. The gap, however, is quite large and thus provides performance guarantees that are useful only for high values of capacity. In this work, we consider the problem of multicast over multiple-input multipleoutput channels to a modest number of users, and with space-only linear precoding. It is assumed that channel state information is available to the transmitter, allowing it to optimize the precoding matrix so as to maximize the achievable transmission rate. It is numerically demonstrated that this architecture allows to very closely approach the multicast capacity at all transmission rates regimes.

In this paper, an interference-aware linear precoding scheme, called generalized singular value decomposition based interference suppression precoding (GSVD-ISP), is proposed. GSVD-ISP scheme employs a whitening filter for interference suppression at the receiver and a novel precoder considering other cells' interference for each user at the transmitter. Through slightly loosening the constraint on the signal-to-leakage-plus-noise (SLNR) maximization for multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) systems with multiple data streams per user and the use of GSVD algorithms, the proposed scheme decreases redundant computational complexity and reduces the gap between any couple of the stream effective channel gains compared with the original interference-aware enhancement to SLNR precoding scheme-multiuser generalized eigenmode transmission (MGET). Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed GSVD-ISP technique achieves considerable gains in terms of bit error rate (BER) over MGET technique with multi-stream and the traditional interference-aware block diagonalization (BD) scheme while maintaining roughly the same achievable sum-rate.

A frequency domain deterministic approach to channel identification

This letter studies the problem of identifying a single-input single-output channel by linearly preceding the input. Although it is known that filterbanks induce cyclostationarity if the input is stationary, this work demonstrates that filterbanks induce a special form of spectral redundancy even if the input is deterministic. This frequency domain interpretation of filterbanks nicely characterizes all linear precoders. It not only helps to identify the strengths and aid in the design of linear precoders, it leads to frequency domain subspace methods for the identification of AR, RIA and ARMA channels.

In this paper, we consider the problem of cell edge users inter-cell interference cancelation by means of precoding transmission when both end users and Base stations are equipped with multiple antennas. Simple precoding algorithm for downlink multi-user multi-cell multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) systems is introduced. The proposed algorithm maximizes what is called per-antenna signal to leakage plus noise ratio (PA-SLNR) performance criteria and make use of multi-cell spatial diversity to enhance the performance of the cell edge user in the Multi-cell Processing(MCP) scenario. Bit error rate (BER) and output SINR outage performance metrics were used to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. Simulations result shows that the proposed PA - SLNR precoding for MCP outperforms the conversional liner precoding methods.
