Optimization of signal processing algorithm in electrothermal atomic-absorption spectrometry

algorithms for processing signals in electrothermal atomic-absorption spectrometry are considered on the basis of mathematical simulation. A new processing algorithm based on interpolation of absorption signals by means of the Arrhenius' equation is developed. The optimality of the new algorithm is confirmed by means of physical measurements.

Ground Penetrating Radar(GPR) is one of a number of technologies that have been used to improve landmine detection efficiency. The clutter environment within the first few cm of the soil where landmines are buried, exhibits strong reflections with highly non-stationary statistics. An antipersonnel mine(AP) can have a diameter as low as 2cm whereas many soils have very high attenuation frequencies above 3GHZ. The landmine detection problem can be solved by carrying out system level analysis of the issues involved to synthesise an image which people can readily understand. The SIMCA ('SIMulated Correlation algorithm') is a technique that carries out correlation between the actual GPR trace that is recorded at the field and the ideal trace which is obtained by carrying out GPR simulation. The SIMCA algorithm firstly calculates by forward modelling a synthetic point spread function of the GPR by using the design parameters of the radar and soil properties to carry out radar simulation. This allows the derivation of the correlation kernel. The SIMCA algorithm then filters these unwanted components or clutter from the signal to enhance landmine detection. The clutter removed GPR B scan is then correlated with the kernel using the Pearson correlation coefficient. This results in a image which emphasises the target features and allows the detection of the target by looking at the brightest spots. Raising of the image to an odd power > 2 enhances the target/background separation. To validate the algorithm, the length of the target in some cases and the diameter of the target in other cases, along with the burial depth obtained by the SIMCA system are compared with the actual values used during the experiments for the burial depth and those of the dimensions of the actual target. In the process of two-phase countercurrent flow in the extraction column, the study of the hydrodynamic characteristics of dispersed phase droplets is crucial for the design and scaling up of the extraction column. In a pulsed extraction column with a liquid-liquid system, the four-sensor optical fiber probe was used to assess the hydrodynamic characteristics of the dispersed phase droplets, including size, mean velocity, and holdup. 1 M HNO3 and 30% TBP/kerosene were used as continuous phase and dispersed phase, respectively. The effects of two-phase superficial velocities and pulsation intensity were investigated on droplet size, mean velocity, and holdup. The findings show that aside from the local holdup, the pulsation intensity has the greatest impact on the hydrodynamic characteristics. A new and concise algorithm was used to deal with the light signals to determine the droplet size and mean velocity. This algorithm created two Cartesian coordinate systems, each with a separate z-axis using the leading probe as the origin of the coordinate instead of using the vector approach. Compared to the previous algorithm, both the needed number of the time interval between the voltage peaks and that of the direction angles decrease. The relative error of the droplet size obtained by this improved algorithm is within 7%, and droplet velocity is almost the same, compared to the previous algorithm, which indicates that the new algorithm of the four-sensor optical fiber signal processing is reliable to the measurement of the hydrodynamic characteristics.

Simulation is an option to manage the complexity of heterogeneous systems which are more and more common in today's vehicles. To estimate the real runtime of an algorithm, such a system simulator has to rely on each processor simulator it is combined of. Since fast running simulators often have a bad quality regarding the determination of non-functional properties, we compared state-of-the-art ARM models with real hardware using an algorithm for processing raw radar data as it is already used in the automotive industry. It appears that there is still need to develop better methodologies for ascertaining the runtime of an algorithm in a simulation environment.

Ballistocardiography (BCG) is a promising unobtrusive method for home e-healthcare systems, and has attracted increasing interest in recent years along with technological advances in related biomedical, electrical engineering and computer science fields. While existing systems have investigated the efficacy of BCG setups in bed, backrest, seat or scale positions, we propose to study BCG in headrest position that will allow new practical and portable applications. To this end, we designed and implemented a multi-modality sensing system including a high-sensitivity microbend fiber optic BCG sensor. In this preliminary study, we have collected multi-modality physiological data on 3 human subjects. We ran extensive analysis on BCG in correlation with ECG, and identified special characteristics of the signal in the new BCG setup. The result suggests that new appropriate computing techniques are necessary for accurately recovering the heart beat signal. Therefore, we developed a novel algorithm for heart beat detection. We evaluate the algorithm with the data and demonstrate that it can accurately compute heart rate intervals in the headrest BCG despite significant signal distortion.

This paper develops a batch processing algorithm that can be used to track a constant velocity surface target. The purpose of this algorithm is to facilitate passive tracking when sensor-target geometry is poor, which can prevent the convergence of a recursive estimator. The target's position is considered to be the output of an ordinary differential equation having unknown parameters to be estimated. This contrasts with the model used for the design of recursive estimators such as a Kalman filter where the target's position is the output of a dynamic system driven by white noise. Batch processing of all sensor measurements and Iterated Least-Squares (ILS) are used to estimate the target model parameters. Numerical integration is used to propagate the target's position and the Jacobian needed by ILS. Simulation results are shown for a maritime surveillance mission.

processing algorithms for three-dimensional data compression of ultrasonic radio frequency signals

Ultrasonic systems are widely used in imaging applications for non-destructive evaluation, quality assurance and medical diagnosis. These applications require large volumes of data to be processed, stored and/or transmitted in real-time. Therefore it is essential to compress the acquired ultrasonic radio frequency (RF) signal without inadvertently degrading desirable signal features. In this paper, two algorithms for ultrasonic signal compression are analysed based on: sub-band elimination using discrete wavelet transform;and decimation/interpolation using time-shift property of Fourier transform. Both algorithms offer high signal reconstruction quality with a peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) between 36 to 39 dB for minimum 80% compression. The computational loads and signal reconstruction quality are examined in order to determine the best compression method in terms of the choice of DWT kernel, sub-band decomposition architecture and computational efficiency. Furthermore, for compressing a large amount of volumetric information, three-dimensional (3D) compression algorithms are designed by utilising the temporal and spatial correlation properties of the ultrasonic RF signals. The performance analysis indicates that the 3D compression algorithm presented in this paper offers an overall 3D compression ratio of 95% with a minimum PSNR of 27 dB.

Nasopharyngeal ventilation (NPV) is a common technique used to support breathing, particularly when a patient's respiration is inadequate, such as under sedation. It involves delivering oxygen through an endotracheal tube positioned above the glottis. Accurate tidal volume measurement is crucial for anesthesiologists, with the gold standard being a pneumotachograph. However, due to leakage from the mouth or mask, this method has limitations when applied to NPV. This study introduces a computational model that calculates respiratory flow in real time by accounting for leak flow. Results show that tidal volume measurements using this method are comparable to the gold standard, assuming the model's assumptions hold true.

In order to alleviate the contradiction between supply and demand of professional pharmacists, integrate medical resources, and ensure the safety of patients' medication, the telemedicine diagnosis system has played a great role. Today, in this "Internet +" era, all walks of life have begun to integrate with Internet technology. The purpose of this article was to discuss the practical utility of machine learning and natural language pro-cessing algorithms in the remote mobile medical diagnosis system of Internet hospitals, for which this article conducted in-depth discussion. This article first introduced the basic concepts, development, and characteris-tics of machine learning and natural language processing algorithms in detail, and carefully studied and ana-lyzed the development and culture of traditional offline medical diagnosis models. Based on machine learning and natural language processing algorithms, a remote mobile medical diagnosis is designed. By combining with the medical diagnosis system of traditional hospitals, a new type of remote mobile medical diagnosis system for Internet hospitals was designed and developed, and the combination of traditional medical indus-try and Internet technology was deeply studied. According to each functional requirement, the image module, heart rate measurement module, and user setting module are designed, respectively. Compared to traditional medical diagnosis systems, the accuracy of the remote mobile medical diagnosis system based on machine learning applied in Internet hospital diagnosis in this article reached 80% or even higher. At the same time, it was found through experiments that when the evolution number was 3, the maximum fit value and average fit value were the same, both of which were 0.6. This indicates that the system can accommodate more than 10,000 people at the same time, and patients can receive good treatment plans, with a very broad application prospect.

Nondestructive measurement of total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) content in salted pork in jelly using a hyperspectral imaging technique combined with efficient hypercube processing algorithms

Total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) content is an important index in evaluating the freshness of salted pork in jelly (SPIJ). This work attempted the nondestructive measurement of TVB-N content in the SPIJ using hyperspectral imaging (HSI) with efficient hypercube processing algorithms. Firstly, we developed a VIS-NIR HSI system for data acquisition and extracted the spectra (430-960 nm) from a 3-dimensional hypercube;then selected the efficient spectral intervals using a synergy interval PLS (Si-PLS) algorithm and further selected four dominant waveband images using a genetic algorithm (GA);next we extracted 6 characteristic variables from each dominant waveband image using texture analysis based on statistical feature calculation;finally, principal component analysis (PCA) was implemented on spectral variables and image variables, respectively. A back-propagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN) was used to achieve data fusion and construct a model for TVB-N content prediction. The optimum results were achieved with the root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) = 6.3435 mg per 100 g and the correlation coefficient (R-p) = 0.8334 in the prediction set. This work demonstrates that HSI with an efficient hypercube processing algorithm has a high potential in nondestructive measurement of TVB-N content in SPIJ.
