The SpectrumWare approach to wireless signal processing

The SpectrumWare project is applying a software oriented approach to wireless communication and distributed signal processing. Advances in processor and analog-to-digital conversion technology have made it possible to implement virtual radios that directly sample wide bands of the RF spectrum and process these samples in application software. The elimination of dedicated hardware introduces tremendous flexibility into a wireless communication system. Our approach goes further than the software implementation of traditional signal processing functions. We use processor and network memory to temporally decouple the sample streams from the software modules so that the bulk of the processing can be realized within virtual time programming environments. Decoupling relaxes the temporal constraints on the processing algorithms and their execution. This paper describes the SpectrumWare concept, our experimental approach, and the implications that this approach has for wireless signal processing algorithms.

AUTOMATED processing OF WELL LOGGING DATA TO MONITOR THE POSITION OF THE GAS-WATER CONTACT IN UNDERGROUND GAS STORAGE FACILITIES

Natural oil and gas deposits in most fields include some fluid contacts, such as oil-water, gas-water, or gas-oil. Monitoring the position of the gas-water contact in underground gas storage (UGS) facilities is crucial for monitoring the safety of the subsurface environment. As UGS facilities are geological features of long-term operation, the condition of these features must be regularly monitored for possible gas leaks due to various reasons, whether geological or technical. Periodic surveys of production wells using geophysical methods make it possible to timely detect the reasons for abnormal technical conditions and higher-than-normal water cuts of reservoirs, and to assess shifts in gas-water contact. The suite of production logging methods for surveying and monitoring underground gas storage facilities includes nuclear logging with the use of steady radiation sources (i.e., gamma ray logging and neutron logging). Analysis and interpretation of these methods make it possible to track the shift over time of the gas-water contact in gas-saturated sandstones with an interparticle porosity of >15%. Data from nuclear logging, temperature logs, and composition-based and flow-based surveying are processed and interpreted with the use of known methods and diagnostic indicators to achieve the following goals: to determine the intervals of inter-reservoir and behind-the-casing fluid movement on the base of the well log, to assess the technical condition of the wellbore, to monitor the position of the gas-water contact in the reservoir, to assess the gas saturation of the reservoir, and to monitor the thickness and integrity of the clay caprocks of UGS facilities [1]. This paper discusses the results of automated processing and interpretation of well data recorded during the survey of an UGS facility to determine the current position of the gas-water contact in the reservoir and the gas-water interface in the well. The report presents the results of statistical processing of linear acceleration signals of healthy people and patients with diseases of the nervous system, in which there are deviations in the musculoskeletal system. Software and algorithmic support for processing the research results is described. According to the results of signal processing conclusions about the informative of the linear acceleration signals components for the study of the kinematics of the lower limbs.

In modern microwave measurements the six-port reflectometers and receivers are used in telecommunications, radiolocation, medicine, Internet of things. The signal processing is based on the algorithms and models that using the redundant information and is aimed at accuracy improving and uncertainty reducing. The Kalman filter is proven to be helpful in signals with errors processing. There was proposed a finite state machine (FSM) with such states as prediction and update for Kalman filter algorithm and its simulation with the help of field programmable gate array (FPGA).

A column army processor (CAP) architecture for real-time (video rate) morphological Image processing Is proposed. The bade Idea for this structure Is that of a serial-to-parallel data Input format and circular date stream processing. As compared to other structures, the column army processor appears to be more economical and flexible compared to a cellular army processor and more functional than a pipelined systolic array. This paper describes the concept and the structure of the processor and compares Its operations to that of other processors. The primary motivation behind such an array processor Is to Implement morphological map analysis and processing algorithms In real-time for applications to video signal. However, use of the processor is not limited to morphological operations.

HIGHLY PARALLEL COLLISION DETECTION PROCESSOR FOR INTELLIGENT ROBOTS

In intelligent robots capable of autonomous work, the development of a high-performance special-purpose VLSI processor for collison detection will become very important for automatic motion planning. Conventionally, this kind of processing is performed by general-purpose processors. In this paper, a first collision detection VLSI processor is proposed to achieve ultrahigh-performance processing with an ideal parallel processing scheme. A large number of coordinate transformations and memory accesses to the obstacle memory are fully utilized in the processing algorithm, so that direct collision detection can be executed with a VLSI-oriented regular data flow. The structure of each processing element (PE) is very simple because a PE mainly consists of a COordinate Rotation DIgital Computer (CORDIC) arithmetic unit for the coordinate transformation and memories for the storage of manipulator and obstacle information. When 100 PE's are used to make parallel processing, the performance is about 10 000 times faster than that of conventional approaches using a single general-purpose microprocessor.

WAVEWAT -: Improved solvent suppression in NMR spectra employing wavelet transforms

WAVEWAT is a new processing algorithm to suppress the on-resonance water signal in NMR spectra. It is based on a multiresolution analysis (MRA) of the free induction decay (FID) using a dyadic discrete wavelet transform (DWT). The width of the suppressed signal can be adjusted so that signals close to water are recovered without distortion of the signal shape and intensity. Computational efficiency is comparable to that of convolution filters employing a Fourier transform. (C) 2002 ELsevier Science (USA).

Comparison of a standard gaussian random variable with a steady random variable having an infinite variance

It is shown that, using a finite sample, it is impossible to discriminate with a given probability of error between a random variable having an infinite variance and a standard Gaussian random variable. An example is given that illustrates the inconsistency of data processing algorithms in the case when the Gaussian model is erroneously chosen.
