The definition of the coastal edge that defines the outline of the coastline, is one of the main tasks in the drafting of digital maps. The solution to this problem is extremely important for maritime navigation. It is important to constantly monitor the outlines of coastlines in connection with natural disasters that can change the coastal edge, such as landslides, tsunami, ice melting, etc. This, in turn, can lead to dangerous consequences for vessels carrying out civil transportation and humanitarian assistance in waters affected by natural disasters. The solution to this problem is of particular importance for archipelago countries such as Indonesia, England, etc The most common methods for determining the coastline are radar-optical methods using optical-radar systems located on-board unmanned small aerial vehicles flying according to predetermined programs. This makes it possible to determine the outlines of the coastline in an automatic (automated) mode, in fact, not depending on weather conditions, and to receive operational information in real-time, practically without time delays The paper considers and analyzes the algorithm for determining the coastal edge using small-sized radar stations located on small unmanned aerial vehicles. This allows you to fully automate the monitoring process. Depending on the characteristics of the on-board equipment and its operating modes, the accuracy of determining the land-sea edge can reach one and a half meters.

Direct imaging is an active research topic in astronomy for the detection and the characterization of young sub-stellar objects. The very high contrast between the host star and its companions makes detection particularly challenging. In addition to the use of an extreme adaptive optics system and a coronagraph to strongly attenuate the starlight contamination, dedicated post-processing methods combining several images recorded with the pupil tracking mode of the telescope are needed. In previous works, we have presented the PACO1-3 algorithm capturing the spatial correlations of the data with a multi-variate Gaussian model whose parameters are estimated in a data-driven fashion at the scale of a patch of a few tens of pixels. PACO is parameter free and delivers reliable detection confidences with an improved sensitivity compared to the standard methods of the field (e.g., cADI,(4) PCA,(5,6) TLOCI7). However, there is a room for improvement in the detection sensitivity due to the approximate fidelity of the PACO statistical model with respect to the observations. We propose to combine the statistics-based model of PACO with a deep learning approach in a three-step algorithm. First, the data are centered and whitened locally using the PACO framework to improve the stationarity and the contrast in a preprocessing step. Second, a convolutional neural network is trained in a supervised fashion to detect the signature of synthetic sources in the preprocessed science data. The network is trained from scratch with a custom data augmentation strategy allowing to generate a large training set from a single spatio-temporal dataset. Finally, the trained network is applied to the preprocessed observations and delivers a detection map. We apply our method on eleven datasets from the VLT/SPHERE-IRDIS instrument and compare our method with PACO and other baselines of the field (cADI, PCA). The present work treats the problem of routing data within a wireless sensors network (WSN) for industrial process control. Our application interests British Gas to monitor the level of propane in a tank. The considered methodology is based on the algorithm CSMA / CA Slotted to access the medium, the processing algorithm measures the volume of propane to exploit failing sensors and intelligent routing algorithm transmission value through the base station while ensuring minimizing energy consumption and maximizing the life time of nodes. The combination of these mechanisms gives birth to a new approach which has been applied to a WSN installed in the industry in order to analyze the performance of the techniques developed for the quality of service Qos, the energy conservation and extension of life.

Interlaboratory comparative tests are an important means of testing the quality of metrological services, provided by calibration laboratories. In many cases, when conducting interlaboratory comparisons, it is necessary to develop or coordinate calibration methods, used by the participating laboratories. In the area of excess pressure measurements, when determining the effective area of measuring piston systems of pressure gauges when transferring a unit of magnitude, GOST 8.479-82 and OIML R 110 with different estimation algorithms are used. The aim of this article is to carry out a comparative analysis of processing algorithms for determining the effective area of the piston and justifying the choice of the preferred algorithm for transmitting the pressure unit. Results of carrying out the work show that both of the analyzed algorithms are special cases of using the weighted least squares method with a different choice of mass. Application of the algorithms is illustrated by the calculations for the measurement results obtained during calibration. The advantage of one of the algorithms is shown. Relevance of the paper lies in the fact that it is aimed at solving a currently important issue concerning harmonization of methods for evaluating measuring results adopted in national and international regulatory documents.

TRS-4D is the latest generation of the naval radars of Cassidian. The TRS-4D is a multifunction radar for sea and air surveillance and target acquisition, operating in C-band. The radar is based on the latest Active Electronically Scanning Array (AESA) technology. Two variants of the radar are developed - a rotating version and a non-rotating version with four fixed array panels. The processing algorithms of the radar were reproduced in a Matlab reference model. The paper illustrates the use of the reference model during the development and test phase.

In 2009, the German radar satellite TerraSAR-X will be supplemented with its twin;the TanDEM-X satellite. Together, they will fulfil the primary TanDEM-X mission goal of deriving a global Digital Elevation Model (DEM) with an unprecedented accuracy corresponding to HRTI-3 specifications (2 m relative point-to-point height accuracy for moderate terrain at 12 m posting). First interferometric processing results from TerraSAR-X repeat-pass acquisitions impressively demonstrate the DEM accuracy that can be achieved from such high resolution X band data. They also confirm the suitability of the phase preserving focussing algorithms, the successful migration of the InSAR algorithms from SRTM to the new challenging TerraSAR-X domain (requiring e.g. terrain dependent co-registration) and the stability of the instrument. This paper outlines the planned SAR data workflow from screening over bistatic focussing and interferometric processing to raw DEM generation. It addresses some aspects of the SAR processing algorithm which exploits the synergies of bistatic focussing and interferometric processing parameter calculation. Intermediate complex image products are introduced. Emphasis is laid on required co-registration accuracy and multi-baseline phase unwrapping and DEM reconstruction algorithms foreseen for the TanDEM-X data processing.

The problems of nonconventional application of torsional mechanical systems as original seis-moreceivers are considered. The possibility to update the existing gradiometers for performing measurements on a mobile base and their utilization in solving the problems of investigations of peculiarities of a microseis-mic background with the aim of forecasting earthquakes is discussed in detail. It is shown that torsional systems with a contactless magnetic suspension meet many of the requirements for such type of devices and hardware complexes for the efficient solution of the problem stated can be developed.

The Gaofen-3 (GF-3) data processor was developed as a workstation-based GF-3 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data processing system. The processor consists of two vital subsystems of the GF-3 ground segment, which are referred to as data ingesting subsystem (DIS) and product generation subsystem (PGS). The primary purpose of DIS is to record and catalogue GF-3 raw data with a transferring format, and PGS is to produce slant range or geocoded imagery from the signal data. This paper presents a brief introduction of the GF-3 data processor, including descriptions of the system architecture, the processing algorithms and its output format.

Automatic Generation of Optimized and Synthesizable Hardware Implementation from High-Level Dataflow Programs

In this paper, we introduce the Reconfigurable Video Coding (RVC) standard based on the idea that video processing algorithms can be defined as a library of components that can be updated and standardized separately. MPEG RVC framework aims at providing a unified high-level specification of current MPEG coding technologies using a dataflow language called Cal Actor Language (CAL). CAL is associated with a set of tools to design dataflow applications and to generate hardware and software implementations. Before this work, the existing CAL hardware compilers did not support high-level features of the CAL. After presenting the main notions of the RVC standard, this paper introduces an automatic transformation process that analyses the non-compliant features and makes the required changes in the intermediate representation of the compiler while keeping the same behavior. Finally, the implementation results of the transformation on video and still image decoders are summarized. We show that the obtained results can largely satisfy the real time constraints for an embedded design on FPGA as we obtain a throughput of 73 FPS for MPEG 4 decoder and 34 FPS for coding and decoding process of the LAR coder using a video of CIF image size. This work resolves the main limitation of hardware generation from CAL designs.
