Deely and Kruse [Deely, J.J., Kruse, R.L., 1968. Construction of sequences estimating the mixing distribution. The Annals of Mathematical Statistics 39 (1), 286-288] proposed a minimum distance method of estimating the prior distribution of an empirical Bayes decision problem and showed their constructed distributions converge weakly to the prior distribution, on a set of probability 1, when the component distribution function is continuous. The advantage of their method is that the proposed estimates can be easily computed by linear programming software. In this paper we extend the range of applications of their method to compound decision theory by establishing a desirable L I consistency of the constructed estimators. The extension that we obtain does not require continuity of the component distribution functions. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

software-only reliability techniques protect against transient faults without the overhead of hardware techniques. Although existing low-level software- only fault-tolerance techniques detect faults, they offer no recovery assistance. This article describes three automatic, instruction-level, software- only recovery techniques representing different trade-offs between reliability and performance.

This brief describes techniques that I have used to develop quick and dirtymultimedia to support both classroom and distance learning activities. It starts by characterizingvarious levels of multimedia quality and identifying those that fall into the quick-and-dirtycategory. The enabling tools required for such development are then described. A series of practicaltips for effective content development follow. The brief concludes with discussion of theeffectiveness of quick and dirty multimedia using a case study of a programming course.
software has progressed to the point where failure can cause danger or even loss of life. This heralds the need for a similar framework of design control in the more tried and proven fields of engineering. This paper ...
