Developing a wireless sensor network based on a proposed algorithm for healthcare purposes

This letter describes a developed wireless sensor network based on a proposed algorithm for monitoring the environmental parameters in healthcare intentions. This proposed algorithm contains a frame with different packets that are implemented on the developed wireless sensor network. The developed wireless sensor network consists of one central node as well as four sensor node that has been equipped with various sensors such as temperature, humidity, CO, CO2, and passive infrared sensor. In order to test the presented algorithm and the developed wireless sensor network, the sensor nodes are situated in four different rooms in a hospital for recording essential parameters of the environment while the central node is put in the nurse station for warning to nurses. The obtained result of the proposed sensor nodes in comparison to gold standards shows root mean square error 1.1%, 0.35 degrees C, 0.98% for humidity, temperature and gas, respectively. Also, the obtained results illustrate that the system gives accurate feedback from environmental temperature, humidity, and CO, and CO2 to the nurse station in order to increases the possibility of a healthy environment condition for patients.

The minimum distance for linear codes is one of the important parameters. The shift bound is a good lower bound of the minimum distance for cyclic codes, Reed-Muller codes and geometric Goppa codes. It is necessary to construct the maximum number of the independent set for the calculation of the shift bound. However, its computational complexity is very large, because the construction of the independent sets is not unique. The authors proposed an algorithm for calculation of the independent set and new lower bound using the discrete Fourier transform in 2010. In this paper we give simple modification and new recurrent algorithms to improve the original algorithm.

Stochastic finite-element-based seismic risk of nonlinear structures

An efficient and accurate algorithm is proposed to evaluate risk in the time domain for nonlinear structures subjected to short duration dynamic loadings, especially seismic loading. The algorithm is based on the stochastic finite-element concept. Uncertainties in the dynamic and seismic excitation and the resistance-related parameters are incorporated by modeling them as realistically as possible. The proposed algorithm integrates the concepts of the response surface method, the finite-element method, the first-order reliability method, and the iterative linear interpolation scheme. Two iterative response surface schemes consisting of second-order polynomials (with and without cross terms) are proposed. A mixture of saturated and central composite design is used to assure both efficiency and accuracy in the algorithm. Sensitivity analysis is used to improve the efficiency further. The risk corresponding to both the serviceability and strength limit states is estimated. The unique feature of the algorithm is that actual earthquake loading time histories can be used to excite structures, enabling a realistic representation of the loading conditions. The algorithm is further clarified with the help of two examples.

In this paper an improved particle swarm optimization algorithm (IPSO) for electromagnetic applications is proposed. In order to overcome the drawbacks of standard PSO, some improved mechanisms for velocity updating, the exceeding boundary control, global best perturbation and the simplified quadratic interpolation (SQI) operator are adopted. To show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, a selected set of numerical examples, concerned with linear as well as planar array, is presented. Simulation results show that the refined pinpointing search ability and the global search ability of the proposed algorithm are significantly improved when compared to the particle swarm optimization (PSO) and Genetic algorithm (GA).

The objective of this paper is to describe a novel method for phase extraction from multiple-beam Fizeau interferograms with arbitrary phase shifts. The approach begins with applying FFT method to estimate the phase shifts and then utilizes least-squares iterative algorithm to extract phase and phase shifts simultaneously. If the spatial carrier frequency of the fringes is high enough to separate the phase of the first-order maximum in the Fourier domain, the proposed method requires only two iterative cycles to accurately extract phase information from seven multiple-beam Fizeau interferograms with arbitrary phase shifts. Numerical simulations and experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. A comprehensive analysis of the influences of systematic errors (spatial carrier frequency, reflectivity coefficient, and random noise) on the evaluation of phase shifts and phase is presented. Numerical algorithm for the retrieval of spatial coherence properties of partially coherent beams from transverse intensity measurements

A novel algorithm for the retrieval of the spatial mutual coherence function of the optical field of a light beam in the quasimonochromatic approximation is presented. The algorithm only requires that the intensity distribution is known in a finite number of transverse planes along the beam. The retrieval algorithm is based on the observation that a partially coherent field can be represented as an ensemble of coherent fields. Each field in the ensemble is propagated with coherent methods between neighboring planes, and the ensemble is then subjected to amplitude restrictions, much in the same way as in conventional phase recovery algorithms for coherent fields. The proposed algorithm is evaluated both for one- and two-dimensional fields using numerical simulations. (C) 2007 Optical Society of America.

Numerical reconstruction of digital holograms with variable viewing angles

Here we describe a new method for numerically reconstructing an object with variable viewing angles from its hologram(s) within the Fresnel domain. The proposed algorithm can render the real image of the original object not only with different focal lengths but also with changed viewing angles. Some representative simulation results and demonstrations are presented to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm. (C) 2002 Optical Society of America.

Effective shooting algorithm and its application to fiber amplifiers

A series of new methods based on the Runge-Kutta (RK) formula are proposed, which not only retain the merit of RK methods, in that the adaptive stepsize is easily implemented, but also dramatically decrease the error under the same conditions. Based on the new methods, an effective shooting algorithm is also proposed. A two-point boundary value problem for the Raman amplifier propagation equations is solved using the proposed algorithm. Our algorithm markedly increases the simulating speed for Raman amplifier propagation equations, as well as improves the accuracy, compared to the traditional algorithm. Micro-motion features are very useful for target recognition in inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR). In this paper, we propose an effective algorithm for micro-motion feature extraction in ISAR imaging with sparse aperture. The micro-Doppler effect induced by rotational micro-motion in ISAR with sparse aperture is analysed first, and then an improved four-parameter Hough transform and an Orthogonal matching pursuit decomposition method are proposed to extract the micro-motion parameters, such as rotation rate and radius. Simulations are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Compact high frequency (HF) radar using small antenna has been widely accepted in ocean surface current mapping, but is challenging in measurement of wave height, particularly wave height field, due to its broad beam. First-order Bragg scattering theory has been explored to estimate sea state, including wind speed and wave height, from the first-order ocean echo, which provides a capability of distinguishing waves information over different directions. However, this method is troubled by the calibration of direction dependent spreading factor. A new approach is proposed by adopting a dual-frequency compact radar, and the ratio of power of Bragg resonant waves associated with two frequencies, rather than that of a single frequency, is utilized to simultaneously eliminate the effect of spreading factor and estimate wave height. In addition, direction finding algorithm such as multiple signal classification (MUSIC) is employed to obtain wave field information. Preliminary results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
