On a class of hybrid systems via a novel approach for real-coded genetic algorithm with hybrid selection

A real-coded genetic algorithm (RGA) approach with hybrid selection method to compute the optimal control and cost (fitness) of a single stage hybrid system is investigated. A typical numerical example is included to illustrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm, which gives the better solution in comparison with forward algorithm. Several statistical tests are also carried out to prove the improved performance of the proposed algorithm. ANOVA test and t-test are also done to verify the betterment of the RGA with hybrid selection. From the experimental approach of the various proportion of the hybrid selection, the right proportions of the hybrid selection is identified and tested.

An Auto-Tuning Fuzzy Logic PSS Design under Multi-operating Conditions Using real-coded genetic algorithm

The power system dynamic instability is occurred by loosing balance relation between electrical generation and a varying load demand that justifies the necessity of using Power System Stabilizer (PSS). Moreover, the PSS must have the capability of producing appropriate stabilizing signals with limited practical amplitude and it should be robust against a wide range of operating conditions and disturbances. For this purpose, a robust PSS design based on an auto-tuning fuzzy logic control under multi-operating conditions by using real coded genetic algorithm (RCGA) is proposed. This method includes two fuzzy controllers;internal fuzzy controller and supervisor fuzzy controller. The supervisor controller tunes the internal one by on-line applying of nonlinear scaling factors to inputs and outputs using extra signals. The RCGA-based method is used for off-line training of this supervisor controller by considering that the operating conditions for training be different from those are used for test simulations. Then, the proposed PSS is tested in three operational conditions;nominal load, heavy load, and in the case of fault occurrence in transmission line. The simulation results are provided to compare the proposed PSS with conventional fuzzy PSS and conventional PSS. It is shown that the performance and robustness of proposed PSS in different operating conditions is more acceptable.

Solving the problem of ship weather routing has been always a goal of nautical navigation research and has been investigated by many scientists. The operation schedule of an oceangoing ship can be influenced by wave or wind disturbances, which complicate route planning. In this paper, we present a real-coded genetic algorithm to determine the minimum voyage route time for point-to-point problems in a dynamic environment. A fitness assignment method based on an individual's position in the sorted population is presented, which greatly simplifies the calculation of fitness value. A hybrid mutation operator is proposed to enhance the search for the optimal solution and maintain population diversity. Multi-population techniques and an elite retention strategy are employed to increase population diversity and accelerate convergence rates. The effectiveness of the algorithm is demonstrated by numerical simulation experiments.

This paper focuses on controlling the voltage of PWM AC/AC voltage converter and the use of real coded genetic algorithm to eliminate selected harmonics from output voltage. The fundamental component of the output voltage can be linearly controlled using the proposed method and harmonics can be completely eliminated up to a specified order. The real coded genetic algorithm generates the best switching angles for a particular output voltage desired by the user with minimum total harmonic distortion (THD). THD values for different output voltages have been tabulated for 3~(rd) and 5~(th) harmonic orders.

The pervasive expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) year after year has facilitated widespread sensing capabilities across various domains. Consequently, heightened concerns have arisen regarding authentication and security measures. There is a growing focus on biometrics in the realm of human identification applications, particularly in the context of advancing biometric-enhanced IoT applications. This trend is garnering increasing attention as it unfolds. As new technologies have developed, biometric-based identification has been seen as an effective way to automatically identify people because of its uniqueness and impossibility of fabricating it. Biometric identity systems make secure authentication and access management possible. However, due to their almost identical physical traits, one of the biggest problems with conventional systems is being able to tell between identical twins. This fact frequently results in high false acceptance rates, putting the system's security at risk. Thus, a solution is addressed in this work by applying a multi-biometric identification method based on unique feature levels. Moreover, the accuracy and robustness of the biometric identifications are further enhanced both with real coded genetic algorithm (RCGA) and Fish Swarm algorithm (FSA). RCGA is employed as a global search to explore the promising solution space and guide the solution toward the global optimal region. The algorithm exploits the capability of AFSA, serving as a local search to secure the final optimal solution. Besides, the proposed method enhances the system's discriminative power, enabling an identification more precise and trustworthy. Therefore, this work greatly contributes to the advancement of biometric identification systems and the increase of accuracy in various fields.

real coded genetic algorithms (RCGAs) have been widely studied and applied to deal with continuous optimization problems for years. However, how to improve the degree of accuracy so as to produce high quality solutions is still one of the main difficulties that RCGAs face with. This paper proposes a novel mutation scheme for RCGAs. The mutation operator is defined as a linear map in the space of chromosomes (in RCGAs each chromosome is a floating point vector). It operates on a whole chromosome instead of several single genes to produce the new chromosome. The linear map is represented by a randomly generated mapping matrix which satisfies some predefined constraints. By this way, the constraints restrict the mutations of genes on a same chromosome as a whole. RCGA with the proposed mutation scheme is tested on 16 benchmark functions. Results demonstrate that the proposed scheme not only improves the solution accuracy that RCGA can obtain, but also presents a very fast convergence speed. The linear map-based mutation scheme has a bright future to improve RCGAs.

Affine invariant matching of broken boundaries based on particle swarm optimization

Affine invariant matching of broken image contours with model shapes is an important but difficult research topic in computer vision. One of the effective approaches to date encapsulates the process as an optimization problem which determines, with the use of a Simple genetic algorithm (SGA), the best matching score between pairs of object boundaries. Despite the moderate success of methods developed in this direction, the overall success rate is generally low and inconsistent amongst test trials. This unfavorable outcome could be due to the lack of adequate exploitation in an enormous and erratic search space, which is rather common in the context of shape matching. In this paper, a novel scheme based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is presented to overcome these problems. Experimental results reveal that the proposed method has outperformed SGA and real coded genetic algorithm (RCGA) in terms of speed, stability and success rate. In addition, the evolutionary behavior of PSO also permits the use of repeated trials to further enhance the success rate towards perfection with relatively fewer iterations. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. Optimal generation share based dynamic available transfer capability improvement in deregulated electricity market

This paper presents a bi-level programming approach for determining optimal generation share to maximize the available transfer capability (ATC) considering Hopf bifurcation limit in the bilateral/multilateral transaction. In the deregulated electricity market of open transmission access, all the market participants try to utilize the transmission system fully;hence it is important to improve the oscillatory stability based ATC for allowing more electricity contracts in future without any transmission limit violation. In the multi-nodal case of bilateral electricity market and multilateral electricity market, ATC significantly varies dependent on the points of electric power injection in the transmission system. This paper suggests the method for establishing bilateral/multilateral contract based on the optimal generation sharing of injection power to maximize the ATC. real coded genetic algorithm (RGA) is used as an optimization tool to solve the proposed approach. The proposed method is tested in WSCC 3 machine 9-bus system and New England 10 machine 39-bus system. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In this paper, the traditional automatic generation control loop with modifications is incorporated for simulating automatic generation control (AGC) in restructured power system. Federal energy regulatory commission (FERC) encourages an open market system for price based operation. FERC has issued a notice for proposed rulemaking of various ancillary services. One of these ancillary services is load following with frequency control which comes broadly under Automatic Generation Control in deregulated regime. The concept of DISCO participation matrix is used to simulate the bilateral contracts in the three areas and four area diagrams. Hybrid particle swarm optimization is used to obtain optimal gain parameters for optimal transient performance. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In this work a procedure namely Findpeaks2 is proposed to detect the maximum sidelobe level (SLL) from the samples of three dimensional radiation pattern. This procedure detects all sidelobe peaks form the samples of the radiation pattern in the entire visible region. For illustration, a low sidelobe radiation pattern synthesis problem is formulated for two concentric regular hexagonal antenna array (CRHAA) geometries, having 6- and 8- rings. To verify the extent of applicability of the proposed procedure, both broadside and scanned array configurations are considered. Feed current amplitudes are considered as the optimizing variables. Two variations of current distributions are considered, i) identical feed for all the elements on a ring (hence the one variable per ring needs to be optimized), and ii) asymmetric excitation distribution (set of excitation amplitude of all elements as optimizing variables). The design objective has been considered to optimize the radiation patterns with very low interference from the entire sidelobe region. To restrict the fall of directivity value, a constraint on the lower limit of directivity value is considered. The impacts of symmetry and the constraint on directivity on the search of these algorithms are studied. Evolutionary algorithms like real coded genetic algorithm (RGA), Firefly algorithm (FFA), Flower Pollination algorithm (FPA), an adaptive variant of Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm namely (APSO), and two recently proposed variants of DE namely Exponentially Weighted Moving Average Differential Evolution (EWMA-DE), and Differential Evolution with Individual Dependent Mechanism (IDE) are employed for this pattern optimization problem.
