We present results from a prototype CMOS camera system implementing a multiple sampled pixel level algorithm ("Last Sample Before Saturation") in real-time to create High-Dynamic Range (HDR) images that approach the dynamic range of CCDs. The system is built around a commercial 1280 x 1024 CMOS image sensor with 10-bits per pixel and up to 500 Hz full frame rate with higher frame rates available through windowing. We provide details of system architecture and present images collected with the system.

A real-time algorithm for the (n(2) - 1)-puzzle is designed using greedy and divide-and-conquer techniques. It is proved that (ignoring lower order terms) the new algorithm uses at most 5n(3) moves, and that any such algorithm must make at least n(3) moves in the worst case, at least 2n(3)/3 moves on average, and with probability one, at least 0.264n(3) moves on random configurations.

Mapping the organization of atrial fibrillation with basket catheters part I: Validation of a real-time algorithm

The authors proposed a real-time algorithm to quantify AF organization from multielectrode basket catheter (MBC) recordings. The algorithm is based on a fast method to estimate the number of points along the baseline of a single bipolar electrogram (number of occurrences, NO). They have already proven this parameter to be effective at discriminating AF organization according to Wells' criteria. Special attention has been paid to ventricular far-field artifacts, as they proved they can significantly bias the degree of organization. To fulfill the constraints of a real-time application, a ventricular blanking procedure was implemented and validated. Bipolar electrograms were obtained from MBC in the right atrium in 17 informed patients with chronic AF. The results of NO computations were displayed as three-dimensional color-coded maps of organization by interpolating the measurements obtained at the locations of catheter bipoles. The proposed method allows real-time estimation of the organization of the atria] electrograms according to Wells' criteria. The estimation has a temporal resolution of 2 seconds, is robust to far-field ventricular artifacts, and interpolates the data available to furnish a single global map of the entire atrium. Further studies devoted to the analysis of individual and common patterns of the regional distribution of AF organization are needed to assess the usefulness of this approach for electrophysiological studies and therapeutic applications.

An LMS-based algorithm to monitor fetal and maternal heart rate in real time was implemented and evaluated on a development platform. Hardware has three modules: dsPIC30F digital signal controller, a low-noise analog front end and a storage stage. They were evaluated using on-chip debugging tools and a patient simulator. algorithm performance was tested using simulation tools and real data. Other measures like process run-times and power consumption, were analyzed to evaluate the design feasibility. Dataset was conformed by 25 annotated records from different gestational age pregnant women. Sensitivity and accuracy were used as performance measures. In general, sensitivity was high for maternal (95.3%) and fetal (87.1%) detections. Results showed that the chosen architecture can run efficiently the algorithm processes, obtaining high detection rates under appropriate SNR conditions.

In this paper, we propose a real-time algorithm for nonlinear receding horizon control using multiple shooting and the continuation/GMRES method. Multiple shooting is expected to improve numerical accuracy in calculations for solving boundary value problems. The continuation method is combined with a Krylov subspace method, GMRES, to update unknown quantities by solving a linear equation. At the same time, we apply condensing, which reduces the size of the linear equation, to speed up numerical calculations. A numerical example shows that both numerical accuracy and computational speed improve using the proposed algorithm by combining multiple shooting with condensing. A digital computer algorithm is described for real-time detection of critical points in the arterial pressure signal. Two externally selected parameters allow for filtering without loss of high frequency components. The accuracy of the algorithm was tested on 1005 cycles. Worse case average error was 2 mm Hg for diastolic pressure, 4 mm Hg for peak systolic pressure and 11 ms in the placement of the dicrotic notch. Stability of the algorithm was shown by detection of 1004 of the 1005 cycles with 2 false positive cycles. A relative error bound is given for the Kouchoukos pulse contour formula for the estimate of stroke volume. The bound is a function of the notch placement relative error.

Aiming at the difficulty of infrared target detection of "low and slow small" unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in complex low-altitude background, this paper proposes a new target detection algorithm based on multiscale fusion filtering. Combined with spatial multiscale decomposition filtering and temporal multiscale difference processing, the algorithm can effectively overcome many difficulties such as complex low altitude background interference, unknown target scale, unknown angular velocity and low target signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The test result shows that the algorithm can effectively detect the UAV targets with different distances in complex low altitude background, and the false alarm rate is low. The algorithm is realized in TI 6657 DSP and realizes 100Hz real-time processing of mid-wave infrared images with 640*512 resolution, which has been effectively applied to the large-field circumferential scanning infrared search system developed by ATR Lab.

Eye detection plays an important role in many Intelligent Human Computer Interaction (IHCI) applications such as eye tracking, eye gaze tracking, drowsiness monitoring etc. However the presence of spectacles makes the eye detection task difficult because of the glint produced by the lens. Earlier approaches on detection of eyes occluded with spectacles have been reported in literature, however with limited accuracies. This paper proposes a real-time algorithm for detection of spectacles leading to the detection of eyes. A video database of human subjects with and without spectacles has been created to evaluate the performance of the algorithm.

Freezing of gait (FOG) is a symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD). In this paper, we develop a real-time FOG detection algorithm. To achieve the goal of real time, we adopt the generalized spectrogram with asymmetric windows and the asymmetric smooth filter. Furthermore, instead of using only the frequency domain information, we apply the features in both the time domain and the frequency domain. Simulations show that the proposed FOG detection algorithm has higher accuracy than other methods. Moreover, the time delay of the proposed algorithm is only 1 second, which is 2.25-3.75 times less than that of existing methods.
