A method is presented for representing signals made up of discrete component waves separated by iso-electric regions such as electrocardiogram (EGG), respiratory and blood pressure signals. The computational complexity is minimised by treating the discrete cosine transform of a group of component waves to be the sum of a finite number of biphasic rational functions.

The recursive least square is widely used in parameter identification. But if is easy to bring about the phenomena of parameters burst-off. A convergence analysis of a more stable identification algorithm-recursive damped least square is proposed. This is done by normalizing the measurement vector entering into the identification algorithm. rt is shown that the parametric distance converges to a zero mean random variable. It is also shown that under persistent excitation condition, the condition number of the adaptation gain matrix is bounded, and the variance of the parametric distance is bounded.

A fast recursive algorithm for determining the Gaussian filtered mean line was deduced using the central limit theorem and an approximation method. This recursive algorithm uses a small number of multiplications per loop and otherwise such simple computer operations as addition and subtraction, and therefore, can achieve a very high computational speed. Special cases are also presented in which the relatively inefficient multiplication operation in the computer can be replaced by the efficient digit shifting operation, and the filtering computational efficiency is enhanced further. High-order algorithms are proposed for practical use to improve filtering accuracy. The "forward filtering" and "backward filtering" implementation of the recursive algorithm results in zero phase distortion of the filtered mean Line. A new relationship between the Gaussian filtering method and the classical 2RC filtering method is also established using this algorithm. Published by Elsevier Science Inc.

CONVENTIONAL system identification theory is mainly focused on how to obtain a single accurate model of the plant and how to ensure that the obtained model approaches the real model of the plant it is assumed that the best an identification algorithm can provide is a good model that is sufficiently close to the real model. For controller design purposes, this assumption implies that a controller. which is designed for a good model, will exhibit good performance when it is applied to the real plant. Such an assumption has been widely used in control ***, alternative approaches to system identification for controller design have been proposed. One of the alternatives is to derive a family of models instead of a single model to ensure that the true dynamics of the plant are included in the model family. Obviously, this is a more practical approach than conventional ones, especially for those plants with highly complex dynamics, such as aerospace *** this Note, a frequency-domain recursive robust identification algorithm is proposed for a system with unmodeled dynamics. The algorithm yields estimates of the system transfer function at N frequency points on the unit circle, as well as the error bounds of these estimates. Such estimation results provide potential data for the so-called H∞ identification approaches, which in turn provide possible models for Me robust (H∞) controller design.

For original paper, see D.P. Palomar et al., ibid., vol. 35, no. 13, pp. 1058-9 (1999). Palomar et al. addressed the question of LPC filter re-optimisation and proposed a recursive algorithm that they considered promising. The present commentator shows that the iterative algorithm employed by Palomar is unnecessarily complex because of poor initialisation. The algorithm that uses available speech data at the very first step is shown to perform well. The results of the one-shot algorithm can be used to initiate Paolmar's method to significantly reduce the number of iterations

A new batch least square (LS) identification algorithm with recursive formulation is proposed to deal with the problems occurred when the ordinary LS algorithm is applied to real-time and on-line identification. The fundamental feature of this algorithm is to fix the observation matrix's dimension, making use of definite amount of newly obtained data and ignoring the older data. Taking advantage of recursive formulation, this algorithm avoids the inverse operation and thus reduces the calculation, making itself capable of application in real-time and on-line identification case, Simulation shows that this algorithm has rather good precision and tracking ability, which are greatly influenced by the dimension of the observation matrix.

Predictive avoidance for ground-based laser illumination

Predictive avoidance determines discrete windows of time for safe laser illumination from a ground-based laser platform. That is, the analysis identifies time periods during which the laser will not inadvertently illuminate a satellite. The geometry of the problem is utilized to filter satellites that cannot possibly be illuminated by a specific laser platform. Further, several nongeometric filters are introduced to filter remaining satellites by removing those which cannot lie illuminated by the platform in a specified period. Both sets of filters improve the efficiency of the analysis by reducing the number of state propagations necessary. A method For determining the times of possible accidental illumination using cubic polynomial approximation is also presented. Finally, a test case is run that considers the entire catalog of objects publicly available from the U.S. Space Command. The complete analysis, which considers the entire catalog as potential victims for one target satellite pass, yields verified results in less than 3.5 s on a laptop personal computer running at 266 MHz.

Selecting radial basis function network centers with recursive orthogonal least squares training

recursive orthogonal least squares (ROLS) is a numerically robust method for solving for the output layer weights of a radial basis function (RBF) network, and requires less computer memory than the batch alternative, In this paper, the use of ROLS is extended to selecting the centers of an RBF network, It is shown that the information available in an ROLS algorithm after network training can be used to sequentially select centers to minimize the network output error. This provides efficient methods for network reduction to achieve smaller architectures with acceptable accuracy and without retraining. Two selection methods are developed, forward and backward. The methods are illustrated in applications of RBF networks to modeling a nonlinear time series and a real multiinput-multioutput chemical process, The final network models obtained achieve acceptable accuracy with significant reductions in the number of required centers.

Based on a real industrial application, 3 new system reliability models are proposed: combined k-out-of-n :F and consecutive-k(c)-out-of-n :F system? combined k-out-of-m . n:F and linear connected-(r, s)-out-of-(m, n): F system, combined k-out-of-m . n: F, consecutive-k(c)-out-of-n : F and linear connected-(r, s)-out-of-(m, n):F system. Reliability evaluation algorithms are provided for these models. The computation times of the algorithms for these models are, respectively: . O(n. k), . O(k . n . (2(m) . s(m-r+1)) . O(k . n . (2k(c))(m) . s(m-r+1)), The algorithms are used for system reliability evaluation of furnace systems. The concept of the combined k-out-of-n : F and 1-dimensional and 3-dimensional consecutive-k-out-of-n : F systems can be extended to other variations of the consecutive-k-out-of-n systems, e.g., the consecutive-k-out-of-n : G system and 1-dimensional and 2-dimensional r-within-k-out-of-n : F systems, The concept of Markov Chain Imbeddable (MIS) systems is another excellent tool that can be used for analysis of such combined system structures.
