In this paper, recursive algorithms are presented for the online state and parameter estimation of a linear time invariant single-input single-output (SISO) discrete-time singular system. The model considered is in the canonical observable form. The approach is based on the generalised Kalman filter and can be developed in two steps. First, the parameters are estimated by recursive least squares method. These parameters are then used to estimate the state by the generalised Kalman filter in the second step. The results are illustrated by a numerical example.

NEW COMPLEMENTARY PAIRS OF SEQUENCES

A general method for construction of polyphase complementary pairs of sequences of length 2N is presented. This method is based on the recursive algorithms introduced by Golay for binary sequences and by Sivaswamy for polyphase sequences. A modification of the proposed algorithm can generate multilevel and complex sequences of magnitude different from unity. The proposed sequences are suitable for radar applications where complementary sequences different from the known binary sequences are required.

ANALYSIS OF A GENERAL recursive PREDICTION ERROR IDENTIFICATION ALGORITHM

A general class of algorithms for recursive identification of (stochastic) dynamical systems is studied. In this class, the discrepancy between the measured output and the output, predicted from previous data according to a candidate model (‘the prediction error’) is minimized over the model set using a stochastic approximation approach. It is proved that this class of methods has the same convergence properties as its off-line counterparts under mild and general assumptions. These assumptions do not, for example, include stationary conditions or conditions that the true system can be exactly represented within the model set. The considered class of methods contains as special cases several well-known algorithms. Other common recursive identification methods, like the extended least squares method and the extended Kalman filter can be interpreted as approximate prediction error methods with simplified gradient calculations. Therefore, the approach taken here, may also serve as a basis for unified description of many recursive identification methods.

The paper deals with a problem of solving overdetermined systems of linear algebraic equations. From a numerical method point of view, such a problem relates, in entity, to the Least Squares class. A feature of the present paper problem statement is that the system coefficients are not known and are replaced with corresponding random values that are sequentially observed. Solving the problem is focused on deriving an iterative/recursive algorithm that would be able to form a strongly consistent, i.e. converging with probability 1, sequence of estimates of the desired solution, and being stable with regard to the observation data and to the condition number of current estimates of the system matrix. © 2016

Reconstructing the duplication history of tandemly repeated genes

We present a noel approach to deal with the problem of reconstructing, the duplication history of tandemly repeated genes that are supposed to have arisen from unequal recombination, We first describe the mathematical model of evolution by tandem duplication and introduce duplication histories and duplication trees. We then provide a simple recursive algorithm which determines whether or not a given rooted phylogeny call be a duplication history and another algorithm that simulates the unequal recombination process and searches for the best duplication trees according to the maximum parsimony criterion. We use real data sets of human immunglobulins and T-cell receptor, to validate Our methods and algorithms. Identity between most parsimonious duplication trees and most parsimonious with additional knowledge about phlogenies for the same data. combined with the agreement with additional knowledge about sequences, such as the presence of polymorphisms, shows strong evidence that our reconstruction procedure provides good insights into the duplication histories of the loci.

Real-time Identification of Propeller-Engine Parameters for Fixed Wing UAVs

The requirement of a robust, recursive online parameter estimation for real-time identification of faults in UAVs during autonomous flights is increasing. This paper presents a recursive algorithm for estimation of thrust and power coefficients of a propeller-engine driven fixed wing UAV. Extended Kalman Filter with a high fidelity nonlinear 6-DOF model of the UAV is used to estimate a linear fit for the thrust and power coefficients at the current operating point. Minimal sensor suit normally used in the autonomous flight of the UAV is used as the basis of available measurements. High fidelity nonlinear simulations are used to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm in a simulated flight and results are presented. © 2015

On the interrelation of almost sure invariance principles for certain stochastic adaptive algorithms and for partial sums of random variables

Since the novel work of Berkes and Philipp((3)) much effort has been focused on establishing almost sure invariance principles of the form [GRAPHICS] where {x(i), i=1, 2, 3,...} is a sequence of random vectors and {X(t), t greater than or equal to 0} is a Brownian motion. In this note, we show that if {A(k), k=1, 2, 3,...} and {b(k), k=1, 2, 3,...} are processes satisfying almost-sure bounds analogous to Eq. (1), (where {X(t), t greater than or equal to 0} could be a more general Gauss-Markov process) then {h(k), k= 1, 2, 3,...}, the solution of the stochastic approximation or adaptive filtering algorithm h(k+1)=h(k)+1/k(b(k)-A(k)h(k)) for k=1,23,... (2) also satisfies an almost sure invariance principle of the same type.

The averaged, overdetermined, and generalized LMS algorithm

This paper provides and exploits one possible formal framework in which to compare and contrast the two most important families of adaptive algorithms: the least-mean square (LMS) family and the recursive least squares (RLS) family. Existing and well-known algorithms, belonging to any of these two families, like the LMS algorithm and the RLS algorithm, have a natural position within the proposed formal framework. The proposed formal framework also includes-among others-the LMS/overdetermined recursive instrumental variable (ORIV) algorithm and the generalized LMS (GLMS) algorithm, which is an instrumental variable (IV) enable LMS algorithm. Furthermore, this formal framework allows a straightforward derivation of new algorithms, with enhanced properties respect to the existing ones: specifically, the ORIV algorithm is exported to the LMS family, resulting in the derivation of the averaged, overdetermined, and generalized LMS (AOGLMS) algorithm, an overdetermined LMS algorithm able to work with an IV. The proposed AOGLMS algorithm overcomes-as we analytically show here-the limitations of GLMS and possesses a much lower computational burden than LMS/ORIV, being in this way a better alternative to both algorithms. Simulations verify the analysis.

AbstractAn adaptive filter is developed to estimate the low frequency (LF) drift and high frequency (HF) wave‐induced oscillations of a floating vessel. The parameters of the HF model depend on the weather and must be updated. By applying a singular perturbation approximation, we decompose the filtering problem into two separate LF and HF designs. This results in an LF Kalman filter and an HF parameter estimator. The parameter estimator is implemented as an extended Kalman‐filter‐type robust algorithm. Approximate Method for Estimating Characteristics of Joint Service of Real-Time Traffic and Elastic Data Traffic in Multiservice Access Nodes

A mathematical model of joint servicing of priority real-time traffic and elastic data traffic in multiservice access nodes has been constructed and studied. Definitions of quality indicators for joint servicing of incoming requests for information services are provided. A system of statistical equilibrium equations is formed and its use for calculating the exact values of the introduced characteristics is considered. A method for approximate calculation of characteristics is proposed, based on the construction of a system of simplified equilibrium equations. It has been established that the obtained estimates of customer service indicators are asymptotically accurate in the region of large and small losses. The use of the developed method is shown to solve the problem of estimating the volume of traffic offloaded in an overload situation to other access nodes or to other frequency ranges in order to achieve values of specified QoS indicators and to solve the problem of planning the volume of required transmission resource of a multiservice access node.
