Optimization of Traffic Dynamic Route Guidance with Drivers, Reactions

This paper presents an optimal guidance algorithm which takes into account the driver compliance to route advices. The optimization problem consists in minimizing the travel time of guided vehicles using a model which describes the traffic by a set of flows on a graph. Driver compliance is modelled by additional constraints on flow variables. This optimization problem is solved using the Simplex Algorithm, recursively An assessment of the criteria degradation induced by non-perfect compliance is performed. Results show that this degradation of the criteria is significant in heavy traffic conditions and that human factors cannot be neglected in route guidance systems.

Identifier-Based Adaptive Monitoring and Control for Stream-Flow Transportation Systems

The problem under discussion is synthesis of adaptive monitoring and control systems for stream-flow transportation complexes comprising intermediate and blending storages, with drifting parameters of monitored objects and with no direct storage stock-taking facilities. The problem can be handled by finding balanced flow and store estimates that would comply with control-imposed physical constraints on variable states of intermediate storages. An independent identification of objects is shown to result in divergence of the estimates in the state space. Co-identification algorithms are described which, using a priori information on material balance conditions, warrant both a good compliance with constraints on variable states and a faster identification of parameters in the space. The allowance for the constraints is found to be equivalent to having extra monitoring channels. An embodiment of this approach in a centralized material- flow monitoring system of an ore-dressing plant is described.

Eigenvalues of the string constraints for the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy

For an arbitrary p is an element of N, a new and computable method is proposed, which can, through a recursive algorithm, calculate the eigenvalues of the string constraint operators corresponding to the tau-function of the p-reduced Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy. It shows that not all of these eigenvalues equal 0. In this process, a connection between the W algebra and the p-reduced W algebra is introduced, which can be used to calculate the algebraic structure of the p-reduced W algebra. And it is proved that the p-reduced W algebra includes a Virasoro algebra as its subalgebra. In addition, based on the obtained eigenvalues, it is also showed that the tau-function of the p-reduced KP hierarchy constrained by the string equation is a vacuum vector for a Virasoro algebra for any p is an element of N. When p = 2, it is coincident with the classical fact that the tau-function of the Korteweg-de Vries hierarchy constrained by the string equation is a vacuum vector for a Virasoro algebra. In this paper, the optimal design problem of both information structure and cooperative control is investigated for a collection of heterogeneous nonlinear systems. The concept of generalized passivity is presented to not only extend the concept of passivity to dynamical systems of any relative degree but also achieve the decoupling between designing a system-level self-feedback control law for any of the individual systems and designing a network-level distributed cooperative control as the command signal to the system-level control. The separation enables a new formulation in which both communication network topology and network-based cooperative control gains can be optimized in general. The performance indices in the formulation are chosen to minimize the cost of local communication network and to maximize convergence to consensus. Optimal gains in the cooperative controls can analytically be solved in terms of any information structure, and recursive algorithms of polynomial time are provided to find Pareto non-inferior solutions of information structures and the corresponding cooperative control gains.

Autonomous service mobile robots need to consistently, accurately, and robustly localize in human environments despite changes to such environments over time. Episodic non-Markov Localization addresses the challenge of localization in such changing environments by classifying observations as arising from Long-Term, Short-Term, or Dynamic Features. However, in order to do so, EnML relies on an estimate of the Long-Term Vector Map (LTVM) that does not change over time. In this paper, we introduce a recursive algorithm to build and update the LTVM over time by reasoning about visibility constraints of objects observed over multiple robot deployments. We use a signed distance function (SDF) to filter out observations of short-term and dynamic features from multiple deployments of the robot. The remaining long-term observations are used to build a vector map by robust local linear regression. The uncertainty in the resulting LTVM is computed via Monte Carlo resampling the observations arising from long-term features. By combining occupancy-grid based SDF filtering of observations with continuous space regression of the filtered observations, our proposed approach builds, updates, and amends LTVMs over time, reasoning about all observations from all robot deployments in an environment. We present experimental results demonstrating the accuracy, robustness, and compact nature of the extracted LTVMs from several long-term robot datasets.

This paper is concerned with Markov chain modeling of operating conditions and system dynamics to facilitate application of stochastic dynamic programming and stochastic model predictive control techniques. We discuss and compare two modeling frameworks based on interval and fuzzy encoding of the signal being modeled. We also present a recursive algorithm for on-line identification of such models. Examples based on automotive vehicle speed and road grade modeling are presented.

Considering the displacement current in the multi-layer soil, the formulas of the ground return impedance and the Fresnel reflection coefficients are derived in frequency domain. These expressions are valid for discretional soil conductivities and the whole range of frequencies. For the convenience of transient analysis, the vector fitting method is adopted to expand the time-domain forms of the ground return impedance and the Fresnel reflection coefficients into the sum of finite exponential functions which are easy to be treated. Based on the recursive algorithm for the time-domain convolution, the finite difference time-domain (FDTD) method improved by the authors is used for the transient analysis of the external excited overhead line. Compared with the existing method applicable for homogeneous soil, the proposed method is demonstrated to be correct.

The traditional compressed sensing approach is naturally offline, in that it amounts to sparsely sampling and reconstructing a given dataset. Recently, an online algorithm for performing compressed sensing on streaming data was proposed: the scheme uses recursive sampling of the input stream and recursive decompression to accurately estimate stream entries from the acquired noisy measurements. In this paper, we develop a novel Newton-type forward-backward proximal method to recursively solve the regularized Least-Squares problem (LASSO) online. We establish global convergence of our method as well as a local quadratic convergence rate. Our simulations show a substantial speed-up over the state of the art which may render the proposed method suitable for applications with stringent real-time constraints.

This paper presents a recursive Gauss-Newton based training algorithm to model the dynamics of a small scale helicopter system using neural network modelling approach. It focuses on selection of optimized network for recursive algorithm that offers good generalization performance with the aid of the cross validation method proposed. The recursive method is then compared with off-line Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) training method to evaluate the generalization performance and adaptability of the model prediction. The results indicate that the recursive Gauss-Newton method gives slightly lower generalization performance compared to its off-line counterpart but adapts well to the dynamic changes that occur during flight. The proposed recursive algorithm was found effective in representing coupled helicopter dynamics with acceptable accuracy within the available computational timing constraint.
