A Novel Temporal-Spatial Variable Scale Algorithm for Detecting Multiple Moving Objects

In this paper, a novel temporal-spatial variable scale algorithm (TSVSA) is presented which proposes to solve the problem of detecting multiple moving objects from complex backgrounds. In general, moving objects have multiscale characteristics in both spatial and temporal domains. In the spatial domain, objects differ in size while in temporal domain they differ in moving speed, which means each object has an optimum temporal-spatial detection window. Here we have formalized the detection of moving objects as the problem of searching in the temporal-spatial domain for multiple distinct optimum subspaces where significant evidence for motion exists. Such subspaces that differ in scale determine the positions in the temporal-spatial domain, moving traces, and other such features of moving objects. Then a criterion for a measurement of motion salience is provided, and a fast recursive algorithm called "octree decomposition of the temporal-spatial domain" is proposed. The proposed method can detect and track the objects simultaneously, greatly reducing the incidence of false alarms and miss detection rate. Extensive experiments and detailed analysis are provided in this paper, and multiple experimental results have confirmed the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Language-based vectorization and parallelization using intrinsics, OpenMP, TBB and Cilk Plus

The aim of this paper is to evaluate OpenMP, TBB and Cilk Plus as basic language-based tools for simple and efficient parallelization of recursively defined computational problems and other problems that need both task and data parallelization techniques. We show how to use these models of parallel programming to transform a source code of Adaptive Simpson's Integration to programs that can utilize multiple cores of modern processors. Using the example of Belman-Ford algorithm for solving single-source shortest path problems, we advise how to improve performance of data parallel algorithms by tuning data structures for better utilization of vector extensions of modern processors. Manual vectorization techniques based on Cilk array notation and intrinsics are presented. We also show how to simplify such optimization using Intel SIMD Data Layout Template containers.

Planning Transmission Resource at Joint Servicing of the Multiservice Real Time and Elastic Data Traffics

A mathematical model of joint servicing of the multiservice real time traffic and elastic data traffic with batch arrival of requests was constructed and investigated. The definitions of the performance measures of joint requests servicing were formulated, and their interrelations established. An algorithm to estimate numerically the characteristics of a model based on construction and solution of the equilibrium equations system was developed. Consideration was given to some partial cases of the model for which convenient recursive algorithms to calculate the measures of joint requests servicing were constructed. A method to estimate the desired rate of data transmission was proposed on the basis of the asymptotic properties of the model under light load. Numerical examples illustrating the distinctions of realizing the developed computer procedures were described.

The main contribution of this paper is a recursive algorithm for parametric system identification in the presence of both noise and model uncertainties. The estimates provided by this algorithm are not invalidated, after a learning period, by the observed input-output data and the assumed system and uncertainty structures. An enhanced linear Kalman filter (EnLKF) algorithm for parameter estimation of nonlinear rational models

In this study, an enhanced Kalman Filter formulation for linear in the parameters models with inherent correlated errors is proposed to build up a new framework for nonlinear rational model parameter estimation. The mechanism of linear Kalman filter (LKF) with point data processing is adopted to develop a new recursive algorithm. The novelty of the enhanced linear Kalman filter (EnLKF in short and distinguished from extended Kalman filter (EKF)) is that it is not formulated from the routes of extended Kalman Filters (to approximate nonlinear models by linear approximation around operating points through Taylor expansion) and also it includes LKF as its subset while linear models have no correlated errors in regressor terms. No matter linear or nonlinear models in representing a system from measured data, it is very common to have correlated errors between measurement noise and regression terms, the EnLKF provides a general solution for unbiased model parameter estimation without extra cost to convert model structure. The associated convergence is analysed to provide a quantitative indicator for applications and reference for further research. Three simulated examples are selected to bench-test the performance of the algorithm. In addition, the style of conducting numerical simulation studies provides a user-friendly step by step procedure for the readers/users with interest in their ad hoc applications. It should be noted that this approach is fundamentally different from those using linearisation to approximate nonlinear models and then conduct state/parameter estimate.

Improved recursive Newton-type algorithm for frequency and spectra estimation in power systems

In this paper, a new improved recursive Newton-type algorithm suitable for various measurement applications in electric power systems is presented. It is used for the power system frequency and spectra estimation. The recursive algorithm form is improved with a strategy of sequential tuning of the forgetting factor. By this, the algorithm convergence and accuracy are significantly improved. To show the main algorithm features, the results of computer simulation, laboratory testing (load rejection and unsuccessful symchronization tests) and field data processing are given.

A second-order recursive algorithm with applications to adaptive filtering and subspace tracking

A second-order recursive algorithm for adaptive signal processing is proposed, and a similar algorithm is derived for signal subspace tracking. It is shown that the algorithm encompasses both the RLS and the LMS algorithms as special cases. The computational complexity is the same as for the RLS algorithm, but some extra memory storage is required. The associated ordinary differential equation (ODE) for the autoregressive exogenous (ARX) case algorithm is proven to be globally exponentially stable. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the proposed algorithm has a higher ability to track time-varying signals than has the RLS algorithm. The proposed algorithm especially handles those situations well where there is a simultaneous system change and decrease of signal power.

Planning the Resource of Information Transmission for Connection Lines of Multiservice Hierarchical Access Networks

We construct and investigate a mathematical model for joint servicing of real-time multiservice traffic in access networks with a hierarchical topology. The model takes into account how the arrival of claims in each flow depends on the number of users that form this flow of claims and that are being serviced. We define quality indicators for joint servicing of claims through the values of stationary probabilities in the model. We obtain relations between them that simplify their estimation. We develop an algorithm for calculating the characteristics of the model based on an implementation of the convolution algorithm. We propose a procedure for estimating the transmission rate of connecting lines in the access network needed to service incoming traffic with a given quality. We also give numerical examples that illustrate the characteristic features of implementing the developed computational procedures.

A periodically time-varying minimal partial realization algorithm based on twisting

The 1975 paper of Meyer and Burrus gave necessary conditions on the coefficients of a periodically time-varying difference equation to generate a prespecified set of impulse responses. The main contribution of the present paper consists of an algorithm that constructs the coefficients of such a periodically time-varying realization of minimal lag. Thus the algorithm solves the minimal partial realization problem for the periodically time-varying (scalar) case. We use a general technique ("twisting") for associating a time-invariant system with a periodically time-varying system in such a way that the time-step is preserved. The technique plays an essential role in the ideas underlying the algorithm. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
