Self-constructing neural fuzzy inference network (SONFIN) is a neural fuzzy system and owing to its structure learning capability, SONFIN has been demonstrated to have excellent learning performance. However, various parameters must be selected in the implementation of SONFIN. In this paper, the learning behavior of SONFIN is studied. First, the SONFIN system with different thresholds and variances are considered. Different selections will result in different rule numbers and membership function widths. Our experiment results indicate that when there are possibilities of overfitting, more rules may not always come up with better performance. Secondly, two different learning algorithms are considered;the backpropagation (BP) learning algorithm and the recursive least square (RLS) algorithm. It can found that the learning of using RLS is much faster than that of using BP as expected. However, it can be found that when overfitting may occur, BP can have better learning performance in terms of testing errors. Finally, the use of reset for the covariance matrix in the RLS algorithm is investigated. From this primitive study, it can be found that the learning algorithms or some parameter selections may have both good effects in the testing performance and the training performance before the learning does not have significant overfitting. However, when the learning crosses this point, any selection is good for learning may bring bad effects on the testing performance.

Resistance furnace has the characteristics of non-linear, time-delay, time-varying and so on. In order to overcome the disadvantage of the traditional Fuzzy Neural Network (FNN) controller with long setting time, an improved Fuzzy Neural Network Controller is presented in this paper. It consists of two parts. One is the traditional Fuzzy Neural Network. The other is a compensator, which is used to accelerate the response of the plant. Based on the recursive least square (RLS) algorithm, the parameters of the model are identified on line. According to this model, the trend of the plant can be predicted and the overshoot can be restrained. And the simulation result indicates that this method has the characteristics of short setting time and obvious improvement of traditional fuzzy neural network.

In this paper, an improved recursive least square (RLS) algorithm was proposed to estimate time-varying AR parameters in the presence of noise. Interharmonics signal can be modeled as a nonstationary auto-regressive (AR) model, the spectral estimation of interharmonics signal can be given by the estimated time-varying AR parameters. AR parametric spectral estimation methods have better frequency resolution. However, the conventional RLS algorithm is sensitive to noise, and fixed forgetting factor (FFF) has poor adaptability in the nonstationary environment. A new mean-squared-error (MSE) objective function based on fourth-order cumulant was introduced in this paper, which can suppress the Gaussian noise. For estimating the time-varying spectra of nonstationary signals using variable forgetting factor (VFF). The results of simulation proved that in noisy environment, this proposed method can get the spectral estimation of time-varying interharmonics accurately.

Recently, recursive least square (RLS) based model free predictive control (MF-PC) has been widely applied to model estimation for superior performance to model-based method. In most previous researches the forgetting factor which is a tradeoff between the convergence speed and the steady-state tracking error is usually neglected, thus selected as a constant to ensure robustness. In this paper, a dynamic forgetting factor based bias compensated RLS (DFF-BCRLS) is proposed for model free predictive current control of a voltage source inverter. The dynamic forgetting factor is calculated by local optimal forgetting factor (LOFF) algorithm to improve data convergency and steady-state robustness. A bias compensation (BC) scheme is presented to further increase the accuracy of parameter estimation and immune input noise. The simulation results show that the proposed strategy has smaller tracking error in steady-state and better performance against model or parameter mismatches compared to the conventional RLS.

Active Front End voltage source converters are widely used in industrial applications. Control loop gain setting is extremely important to maintain reliable operation of these converters to avoid resonance or bus over voltage issues. This paper presents a novel technique to estimate source impedance during drive pre-charge and transient operational mode. The technique can be extended to different drive power architecture which includes SCR/contactor based pre-charge. Transient method is implemented under a single and multiple drive at point of common coupling. Experimental results are used to validate these techniques. It is recommended to use a PQ meter to estimate and communicate grid information to multiple drives at the same time keeping system cost and accuracy of data into account.

A model is an input-output mapping that suitably explains the behavior of a system. Model helps to analyze the functionality of the system and to design suitable controllers. System identification builds model from experimental data obtained by exciting the process with an input and observing its response at regular interval (Wibowo et al. in System identification of an interacting series process for real-time model predictive control, American Control Conference, pp. 4384-4389, 2009). Fuel cells (FC) systems are a potentially good clean energy conversion technology, and they have wide range of power generation applications. Classification of fuel cells is based on the fuel and the electrolyte type used. The proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) are portable devices with superior performance and longer life. They act as a good source for ground vehicle applications. They also possess high power density and fast start-up time. In this work, mathematical model of a real-time PEMFC is obtained and its quality is assessed using various validation techniques. The model is obtained using system identification tool in MATLAB, and validation procedures like recursive least square algorithm, ARX and ARMAX were employed to assess the model. Controllers such as PI and PID were employed in order to achieve the desired load current by controlling the hydrogen flow rate. The values of the gain constant, integral time and derivative time were obtained using Cohen-Coon method. PI and PID control schemes were implemented using SIMULINK in MATLAB environment, and the system response was observed.

According to the characteristics of massive input and output data, complicated production process and the difficulty to acquire accurate mathematical model of the non-linear blast furnace system, this paper proposes a fuzzy system modeling method based on data driving. This paper utilizes the fuzzy clustering algorithms combined nearest neighbor clustering and fuzzy c-means clustering to classify the input space. And then the parameters of model are identified by adopting recursive least square algorithm. Subsequently, the fuzzy rules are extracted to build the T-S fuzzy model of blast furnace system whose output is the Si content in molten iron which has guiding significance on predicting the trend of furnace temperature changing. The furnace data of number 6 furnace in Baotou Steel is acquired to complete MATLAB simulation. The simulation results verify the feasibility of the method.

The procedure of system identification of multi-mass servo system using different methods is described in this paper. Different black-box models are identified. Previous experimental results show that a model consisting of three-masses connected by springs and dampers gives an acceptable description of the dynamics of the servo system. However, this work shows that a lower order black-box model, identified using off-line or on-line experiments, gives better fit. The purpose of this contribution is to present experimental identification of a multi-mass servo system using different algorithms.

Classical linear controllers to handle complex non linear systems dynamics put limitation on their applicability to a constraint range of operations for getting satisfactory performance. To tackle such problems a non linear Continuous stirred tank reactor is investigated with two intelligent controllers namely Self Tuning Regulator (STR) and Model Reference Adaptive Controller (MRAC) along with conventional PID and linear Model Predictive Controller (MPC). The performance such as Peak overshoot and settling time is evaluated for set point concentration control of CSTR. The MATLAB simulation results show that Adaptive controllers specifically Self Tuning Regulator performs well than other controllers.

In my research, the performance of multilayered perceptron (MLP) network which trained by recursive least square (RLS) algorithm is investigated. The network has been implemented to classify the cervical cells into normal, low-grade squamos intraepithelial lesion(LSIL) and high-grade squamos intraepithelial lesion(HSIL). Based on Bathesda System, it has achieved to classify the cervical cells with high accuracy, sensitivity and specificity as well as lower false negative and false positive but more work should be done to enhance the system accuracy. © 2005 IEEE.
