The paper presents an approach to model the electro-hydraulic system of a certain explosive mine sweeping device using the Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural network. In order to obtain accurate and simple RBF neural network, a revised clustering method is used to train the hidden node centers of the neural network, in which the subtractive clustering(SC) algorithm was used to determine the initial centers and the fuzzy C - Means(FCM) clustering algorithm to further determined the centers data set. The spread factors and the weights of the neural network are calculated by the modified recursive least squares (MRLS) algorithm for relieving computational burden. The proposed algorithm is verified by its application to the modeling of an electro-hydraulic system, simulation and experiment results clearly indicate the obtained RBF network can model the electro-hydraulic system satisfactorily and comparison results also show that the proposed algorithm performs better than the other methods.

The friction coefficient of road is the primary factor of the traction control system. In this paper, a real-time estimation of road coefficient based on the distributed driven electric vehicle is developed. The simplified quarter car model and the Burckhardt tire model are selected and optimized. The algorithm based on recursive least square with forgetting factor is used for road estimation. The test data under a wide range of road conditions are analyzed. The results show that the algorithm is able to estimate two surfaces: asphalt and ice road. The proposed approach has several advantages such as accurate, effective, short cycle and low cost. Also, it has the ability to provide with reliable information for vehicle active safety control.

This paper studies the parameter estimation for dual-rate Hammerstein systems. The finite input response model is used to approximate the dual-rate Hammerstein systems, and a recursive least squares algorithm is derived to estimate the parameters of the finite input response model. Based on the estimated parameters, the origin parameters of the dual-rate Hammerstein systems can be obtained. An example is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Multi-branch successive interference cancellation for MIMO spatial multiplexing systems: design, analysis and adaptive implementation

In this study, the authors propose a novel successive interference cancellation (SIC) strategy for multiple-input multiple-output spatial multiplexing systems based on a structure with multiple interference cancellation branches. The proposed multi-branch SIC (MB-SIC) structure employs multiple SIC schemes in parallel and each branch detects the signal according to its respective ordering pattern. By selecting the branch which yields the estimates with the best performance according to the selection rule, the MB-SIC detector, therefore, achieves higher detection diversity. The authors consider three selection rules for the proposed detector, namely, the maximum likelihood (ML), the minimum mean square error and the constant modulus criteria. An efficient adaptive receiver is developed to update the filter weight vectors and estimate the channel using the recursive least squares algorithm. Furthermore a bit error probability performance analysis is carried out. The simulation results reveal that the authors' scheme successfully mitigates the error propagation and approaches the performance of the optimal ML detector, while requiring a significantly lower complexity than the ML and sphere decoder detectors.

Frequency-domain adaptive detectors for single-carrier frequency-domain equalisation in multiuser direct-sequence ultra-wideband systems based on structured channel estimation and direct adaptation

Here, the authors propose two adaptive detection schemes based on single-carrier frequency-domain equalisation (SC-FDE) for multiuser direct-sequence ultra-wideband systems, which are termed structured channel estimation (SCE) and direct adaptation (DA). Both schemes use the minimum mean square error (MMSE) linear detection strategy and employ a cyclic prefix. In the SCE scheme, adaptive channel estimation is performed in the frequency domain and the despreading is implemented in the time domain after the FDE. In this scheme, the MMSE detection requires the knowledge of the number of users and the noise variance. For this purpose, simple algorithms are proposed for estimating these parameters. In the DA scheme, the interference suppression task is fulfilled with only one adaptive filter in the frequency domain and a new signal expression is adopted to simplify the design of such a filter. least mean squares, recursive least squares and conjugate gradient adaptive algorithms are then developed for both schemes. A complexity analysis compares the computational complexity of the proposed algorithms and schemes, and simulation results for the downlink illustrate their performance.

To solve the problem of force estimating error in reaction force observer based sensor-less bilateral control, the online identification and compensation method is proposed based on the recursive least squares algorithm with discontinuous projection mapping. The proposal can identify the system parameters in a fixed bounded range, which guarantees that good performance of the system are not influenced by the compensation. Besides, the force estimating error caused by the parameters mismatch can be canceled. According to experimental results, validity of the proposal is confirmed.

In this work we present a robotic ball catcher with embedded visual servo processor. The embedded visual servo processor with powerful parallel computing capability is used as the computation platform to track and triangulate a flying ball's position in 3D based on stereo vision. A recursive least squares algorithm for model-based path prediction of the flying ball is used to determine the catch time and position. Experimental results for real time catching of a flying ball are presented by a 6-DOF robot arm. The percentage of success rate of the robotic ball catcher was found to be approximately 60% for the ball thrown to it from five meters away.

In digital predistortion (DPD) design, loop-delay estimation for synchronization is an important work. In this paper, an algorithm for precisely estimating loop-delay in DPD system is proposed. The whole algorithm consists of integer loop-delay estimation and fractional loop-delay estimation. Amplitude-difference correlation function is used to estimate the integer loop-delay estimation. The fractional loop-delay estimation gets the estimate through recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm based on interpolation filter structure. Finally, a series of simulations prove the validity of the algorithm and the effect on the DPD system. © 2010 IEEE.
