Incremental Circuit Simulation and Simulation-on-demand based on Backward-traversing Waveform relaxation and Portion-simulating algorithms

In this paper, the practical behavior of circuit simulator users are considered and utilized to speed up the circuit simulation. The used methods are incremental simulation and simulation-on-demand (SOD, just simulate the portion of circuit contributing to user-wanted outputs). A specialized relaxation-based algorithm, Backward-traversing Waveform relaxation (BTWR), is adopted as the fundamental simulation algorithm. All proposed methods have been implemented and tested. Experimental results justify the values of proposed methods.

This paper considers the repeated-executing characteristics of circuit simulators in practical situations, and raises according methods. These methods are incremental simulation and simulation-on-demand (SOD, just simulate the portion of circuit contributing to user-wanted outputs). A specialized relaxation-based algorithm, Backward-traversing Waveform relaxation (BTWR), is adopted as the fundamental simulation algorithm. All proposed methods have been implemented and tested. Experimental results justify the values of proposed methods.

A modified Waveform relaxation algorithm with transmission line calculation ability is proposed to perform large-scale circuit simulation for MOSFET circuits with lossy coupled transmission lines. The adopted full time-domain transmission line calculation algorithm, based on the Method of Characteristic, has been equipped with a time step control scheme to improve the calculation efficiency. All proposed methods have been implemented in a simulation program to simulate several circuits. The simulation results well justify the success of proposed methods.

In this paper, we propose a modified Waveform relaxation algorithm to perform large-scale circuit simulation for MOSFET circuits containing lossy coupled transmission lines that have been encountered in modern circuit design community, in which a full time-domain transmission line calculation algorithm based on the Method of Characteristic is adopted. New software techniques are proposed to enhance the robustness as well as efficiency of the simulation process. All proposed methods have been implemented and executed to justify the claimed advantages.

relaxation-based algorithms are efficient in simulating large-scale circuits. One of the relaxation-based algorithms, ITA (Iterated Timing Analysis), has even been widely used in industry. Hence we present accelerating techniques to fasten IA's speed. The basic idea is to let ITA utilize local time steps of subcircuits as much as possible. Our techniques include a heuristic approach, a method based on Strength of Signal Flow, and the method combining the previous two techniques. Proposed methods are quite advantageous, which have been justified by real experiments.

In this paper, we propose methods to perform large-scale circuit simulation for MOSFET circuits containing lossy coupled transmission lines that have been encountered in modern circuit design community. We utilize the fast multi-rate ITA (Iterated Timing Analysis) algorithm and a full time-domain transmission line calculation algorithm based on the Method of Characteristic. Various methods to speedup the transmission line calculation algorithm have been presented. All proposed methods have been implemented and tested to justify their superior performance.

In modern circuit design community, to perform large-scale circuit simulation for MOSFET and interconnect circuits is an important subject. This paper presents an efficient and robust way to satisfy this requirement. It uses ITA (Iterated Timing Analysis) algorithm, serving as the main algorithm, and a transmission line calculation algorithm, serving as the interconnect calculator, to do the simulation task. More important, accelerating methods to fasten both ITA and the transmission line calculator also proposed in this paper. All presented methods have been implemented and tested to justify their efficiency and robustness.

Circuit simulation is important and time-consuming. The circuit level incremental simulation is a good strategy to reduce the simulation time, since most circuit designers use circuit simulators in a repeatedly-executing manner. This paper researches the incremental simulation by using the well-known ITA (Iterated Timing Analysis) algorithm for MOSFET circuits. Besides, a new incremental simulation strategy is presented. All proposed methods have been implemented and tested. Experimental results justify that ITA can undertake incremental simulation very well.

Transient sensitivity information is useful in circuit design community. This paper investigates transient sensitivity computations of large-scale MOSFET circuits using Waveform relaxation(WR). A novel method for sensitivity subcircuit computation is proposed, which is called Adaptive Direct Approach. Other time-saving techniques are also proposed. All proposed methods have been implemented and tested, and the results well justify their outstanding performance.
