Available and objective clinical documents are important for research of assistant diagnosis, development of algorithms, and education. To facilitate the readability and variability of clinical documents, this paper presents a rule-based approach to develop a question-answer dataset for chest X-rays from a public collection of radiology examinations, including both images and radiologist narrative reports. Our method simplified the complicated reports via hand-selected keywords, generated more than 63 thousand question-answer pairs via hand-written patterns, and augmented the question-answer dataset to more than 130 thousand pairs via rule-based question answering. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first generated question-answer dataset for chest X-rays by rule-based method. The dataset is promising for future researches and applications such as visual question answering, computer-aided diagnosis and so on.

Headache is a very common disorder amongst working people, and it can be a social as well as health problem of serious dimensions. Headache severity assessment is significant in daily medical practice for decision making on the type of therapy that is going to be used. One of the methods of headache severity assessment is MIGSEV questionnaire usage. With a special scoring system, ranking is being done as follows: (1) low., (2) intermediate, (3)) high headache. rule-based represents a successful method for knowledge-based systems in supporting many decision-making domains, including medicine. rule-based method in headache severity assessment is presented in this paper. From a technical aspect, the presented system is based on a very efficient and simple decision-making system. Also, from the system users aspect, doctors-neurologists, it is easy to use and also punctual and efficient in headache severity assessment decision-making. This system was used in one study at the Institute of Neurology, Clinical Centre in Novi Sad.

rule-based methods are often used for assigning fiber orientation to cardiac anatomical models. However, existing methods have been developed using data mostly from the left ventricle. As a consequence, fiber information obtained from rule-based methods often does not match histological data in other areas of the heart such as the right ventricle, having a negative impact in cardiac simulations beyond the left ventricle. In this work, we present a rule-based method where fiber orientation is separately modeled in each ventricle following observations from histology. This allows to create detailed fiber orientation in specific regions such as the endocardium of the right ventricle, the interventricular septum, and the outflow tracts. We also carried out electrophysiological simulations involving these structures and with different fiber configurations. In particular, we built a modeling pipeline for creating patient-specific volumetric meshes of biventricular geometries, including the outflow tracts, and subsequently simulate the electrical wavefront propagation in outflow tract ventricular arrhythmias with different origins for the ectopic focus. The resulting simulations with the proposed rule-based method showed a very good agreement with clinical parameters such as the 10 ms isochrone ratio in a cohort of nine patients suffering from this type of arrhythmia. The developed modeling pipeline confirms its potential for an in silico identification of the site of origin in outflow tract ventricular arrhythmias before clinical intervention.

A rule-based method for automated surrogate model selection

Surrogate models have been widely used in engineering design because of their capability to approximate computationally complex engineering systems. In practice, the choice of surrogate models is extremely important since there are many types of surrogate models, and they also have different hyper-parameters. Traditional manual selection approaches are very time-consuming and cannot be generalized. To address these challenges, an evolutionary algorithm (EA)-based approaches are proposed and studied. However, they lack interpretability and are computationally expensive. To address these gaps, we create a rule-based method for an automatic surrogate model selection called AutoSM. The drastic increase in the selection pace by pre-screening of surrogate model types based on selection rule extraction is the scientific contribution of our proposed method. First, an interpretable decision tree is built to map four critical features, including problem scale, noise, size of sample and nonlinearity, to the types of surrogate model and select the promising surrogate model;then, a genetic algorithm (GA) is used to find the appropriate hyper-parameters for each selected surrogate model. The AutoSM is tested with three theoretical problems and two engineering problems, including a hot rod rolling and a blowpipe design problem. According to the empirical results, using the proposed AutoSM, we can find the promising surrogate model and associated hyper-parameter in 9 times less than other automatic selection approaches such as concurrent surrogate model selection (COSMOS) while maintaining the same accuracy and robustness in surrogate model selection. Besides, the proposed AutoSM, unlike previous EA-based automatic surrogate model selection methods, is not a black box and is interpretable.

In this paper, a rule-based sentence segmentation system is proposed. We studied the usage and function of Chinese punctuation marks, and classified them into 4 categories. According to whether punctuation can split a sentence, we tagged it with a label SST or un-SST. Experiments were conducted on 4 different kinds of corpus containing 12 kinds of Chinese punctuation marks, and our model achieves a high F-measure over 90% overall. Experiment results show that our approach is effectively for sentence segmentation.

Myocardial fiber orientation determines the propagation of electrical waves in the heart and the contraction of cardiac tissue. One common approach for assigning fiber orientation to cardiac anatomical models are rule-based methods (RBM). However, RBM have been developed to assimilate data mostly from the Left Ventricle. In consequence, fiber information from RBM does not match with histological data in other areas of the heart, having a negative impact in cardiac simulations beyond the LV. In this work, we present a RBM where fiber orientation is separately modeled in each ventricle following observations from histology. This allows to create detailed fiber orientation in specific regions such as the right ventricle endocardium, the interventricular septum and the outflow tracts. Electrophysiological simulations including these anatomical structures were then performed, with patient-specific data of outflow tract ventricular arrhythmias (OTVA) cases. A comparison between the obtained simulations and electro-anatomical data of these patients confirm the potential for in silico identification of the site of origin in OTVAs before the intervention.

We described a rule-based method for disambiguating Chinese commas in patent text, which will be beneficial to the work on Chinese-English Patent MT. We annotated ten thousand sentences of patent text, and made a number of rules according to the annotated results. Experiments were conducted on 5 intact patent documents containing 1219 commas, and our model achieves an accuracy of over 90% overall.

A hybrid graph and rule-based method for recognizing machining features is proposed in this paper, which aims to get the machining feature in 3D in-process model construction system. Initially, the attributed adjacency graph (AAG) of the input MBD models is constructed and represented in matrix form. After that, by deleting the convex edges of the AAG, the concave sub-graphs are generated. For obtaining the volumetric features, their concave sub-graphs are matched with the feature template graphs in a pre-defined library;for those which can be generated by sweeping the edge loops, such as open pocket, closed pocket, through pocket and slot, their features are recognized by using rules. In experimental section, an example is given to illustrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method.

A rule-based method for diagnosing radiation fog in an arid region from NWP forecasts

A reliable fog forecast can assist in water resource management and mitigate against hazardous effects on transport networks. However, diagnosing fog from numerical weather prediction models remains a challenge and various methods have been developed to achieve this. One approach is to use a multi rule-based method, where threshold values of multiple variables are employed to define fog conditions in the forecast. Such a method is presented here for next day forecasts of radiation fog at Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Variables tested include the dew point depression, wind speed, modified Richardson index, inversion depth, relative humidity and liquid water content. Of these, the best performing rule included relative humidity (>= 94%), wind speed (<= 3 ms(-1)) and inversion depth (>250 m) with a probability of detection (POD) (false alarm ratio (FAR)) of 0.62 (0.37). The worst performing rule was liquid water content with a POD (FAR) of 0.37 (0.31). Model performance was more sensitive to inversion depth than wind speed, and rules that included inversion depth performed better than rules that included the modified Richardson number. A qualitative spatial analysis showed that rules produced realistic fog patches when compared to satellite images. This suggests that the geophysical parameters chosen to define rules are well suited for defining fog as long as the model bias is sufficiently small to fall within the threshold values. This method worked well for the study region and did not demonstrate any seasonal bias.

A rule-based method TO CALCULATE THE WIDEST SOLUTION SETS OF A MAX-MIN FUZZY RELATIONAL EQUATION

In this paper, we propose a new rule-based method to determine exactly all the widest solution sets of a max-min fuzzy relational equation. As they can be applied to many fields of fuzzy logic, fuzzy relational equations are of great importance; therefore, many researches have been carried out on the subject and many methods have already been proposed to solve the various kinds of fuzzy equations that can be defined, especially the so-called max-min equations. One of the main consequences of the use of the max and min operators is the non uniqueness of the solution. Indeed, when a max-min fuzzy equation has solutions, there are several solutions which can be grouped in intervals. However, most of the existing methods do not enable to calculate the widest solution sets only, often leading to calculate non-maximal solution sets, that is, solution sets included in wider sets. This often results in unnecessary calculations, requiring huge amounts of memory and time. The method we propose here enables to determine rapidly all the widest solution sets of a max-min equation, and those sets only. The use of symbol-valued matrices enables to define simple rules and makes the method very simple to apply.
