These recent years, a lot of real-time applications are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their data needs, resulting in a greater demand for real-time data services. Real-time database systems (RTDBS) can manage these applications, but the workload in these systems is unpredictable, then RTDBS may become overloaded. A lot of work dealing with quality of service (QoS) has been done to control the transient overshoot. They are based on feedback control real-time scheduling theory. In this paper, we propose a work which allows to execute transactions before their deadlines while using the fresh data. We have extended the feedback-based miss ratio control, by using a multi versions data architecture to guarantee a set of requirements on the behavior of RTDBS and we have considered two data management policies. In the first policy, we have limited the maximum number of data versions and this number is the same for all the data items. In the second policy, the number is dynamically adjusted for each data item.

In this paper a new test schedule problem is described and an algorithm for its solution is presented. Hardware overhead and test application time is saved by executing tests in parallel, when BIST (built-in-self-test) structures are integrated on the chip. The authors achieve a reduction in the bit width of the control signals and the global area of the controller by merging the test control graph and the control graph for the data path into one control graph. This control graph can be globally optimized by the controller synthesis system CASTOR.< >

The paper introduces the modeling of IP based voice traffic and an investigation of the scheduling algorithms for this type of low data rate real time service in wireless LAN (WLAN) systems. We examine the HIPERLAN/2 system as a typical case. The problem of typical low system utilization for real time services by using inappropriate scheduling algorithms in broadband networks is revealed. Two approaches are proposed, one using variable sized protocol data units (PDU) and one utilizing alternating MAC frames for individual connections. The comparison between these two algorithms is given. It is concluded that the scheduling algorithm has a significant impact on system performance. Without changing the system structure, by alternating the MAC frame, a large number of users can be admitted in the wireless LAN system. The investigations can be applied to more extended low data rate real time services in WLANs.

It is a common understanding that scheduling algorithms of multi-access wireless networks can exploit the channel state information (CSI) to improve the system performance. Typical channel aware scheduling algorithms usually require the instantaneous CSI estimated at the physical layer. However, such information may not be available to the schedulers of some wireless systems. Instead, the long term CSI obtained from the error control scheme of the link layer can be used for the same purpose. In this paper, we propose a metric to denote the long term CSI, and develop a novel method to extract the metric from the link layer. Based on the proposed metric, we implement two channel-aware downlink scheduling algorithms. The first algorithm jointly considers the channel quality and queue states for throughput optimization. The second algorithm takes long term throughput fairness of terminals into account. The proposed algorithms are independent of specific physical layer implementations, and can be employed in all wireless systems that enable the error control scheme in the link layer.

A selection method for non-dominated schedules for a bi-objective open shop scheduling problem are considered. We treat an open shop scheduling problem on two machines with fuzzy processing times of jobs and with fuzzy due dates of machines. We introduce a possibility distribution function of the processing time for each job and a membership function of the due date of the machine. Thus the processing times and due dates are not constants as in ordinary scheduling problems but decision variables reflecting the fuzzy circumstance of job processing. We propose algorithms for the selection method of reasonable schedules from non-dominated schedules to maximize minimum degree of possibility for the job processing and maximum satisfaction level for the job completion, simultaneously.

Self-similar traffic models have permitted a more realistic description of the network devices behavior. However, the derivation of analytical results turns out to be a very demanding task, also in the single-server case. For the work-conserving switching architectures the characterization of the quality of service (QoS) parameters is even more complicated due to the correlation among the queues, induced by the scheduling policies. In this paper we present a detailed study, based on simulations of some paradigmatic scheduling disciplines, performed with an aim to furnish some useful tools for the design of high-speed network devices.

With small device features in submicron technologies, interconnection delays play a dominant part in cycle time. Hence, it is important to consider the impact of physical design during high level synthesis. In comparison to a traditional approach which separates high-level synthesis from physical design, an algorithm which is able to make these stages interact very closely, would result in solutions with lower latency and area. However, such an approach could result in increased runtimes. Parallel processing is an attractive way of reducing the runtimes. In this paper, two parallel algorithms for simultaneous scheduling, binding and floorplanning algorithm are presented. A detailed hardware model is considered, taking into account multiplexor and register areas and delays. Experimental results are reported on an IBM SP-2 multicomputer, with close to linear speedups for a set of benchmark circuits.

Packet scheduling is investigated for the downlink of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) cellular system. The conventional round robin scheduling (RRS) scheme does not utilize the benefits of multiuser environments, although it provides fair channel access chance to users. We propose an antenna-assisted round robin scheduling (AA-RRS) scheme to improve the conventional RRS scheme. The AA-RRS scheme provides fair channel access chance to users as the RRS scheme, whereas it increases the system capacity through the effective use of multiple antennas in achieving a diversity effect from multiple users. Computer simulations are conducted to compare the RRS and AA-RRS schemes in terms of the expected and outage capacities. It is shown that the AA-RRS scheme provides significant capacity gain over the RRS scheme, especially in terms of the outage capacity. We also discuss the effects of power control, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and spatial correlation on the system capacities.

Meld scheduling melds the schedules of neighboring scheduling regions to respect latencies of operations issued in one region but completing after control transfers to the other. In contrast, conventional schedulers ignore latency constraints from other regions leading to potentially avoidable stalls in an interlocked (superscalar) machine or incorrect schedules for non-interlocked (VLIW) machines. Alternatively, schedulers that conservatively require all operations to complete before the branch rakes effect produce inefficient schedules. In this paper, we present general data structures for maintaining latency constraint information at region boundaries. We present a meld scheduling algorithm that generates latency constraints at the boundaries of scheduled regions and utilizes this information during the scheduling of other regions. We present a range of design options and describe the reasons behind our particular choices. We cover certain pitfalls and discuss how to develop an algorithm that addresses these issues. We evaluate the performance of meld scheduling on a range of noninterlocked machine models on a set of SPEC 92 and Unix benchmarks. We also investigate the sensitivity of the performance improvements due to changes in issue width and instruction latencies.

In this study, scheduling method using a combination of auction-type real-time scheduling and simulation is proposed in order to automate the scheduling for machining job shop. The control mechanism which is essential for executing real-time scheduling and simulation simultaneously has been developed and implemented The auction algorithm for the real-time scheduling which improves the delay of delivery date and amount of setup time at the same time is investigated Also the method of simulation during the real-time scheduling which can predict the changing situation of the shop and automatically take countermeasures by adjusting the scheduling precondition is discussed. It is clarified that the proposed system has the ability to automate machining job shop scheduling.
