This paper presents a development framework for social robots with which developers can easily prepare communicative behaviors based on tag-based sentences. Previous literature in human-robot interaction has revealed various useful non-verbal behaviors. But for developers, integrating such a large amount of non-verbal behaviors each time they build a social robot is not realistic. The more repertory of non-verbal behaviors acquire, the larger is the burden faced by developers to implement the non-verbal behaviors. Our software, however, only requires developers to prepare sentences with simple markup language for controlling explicit non-verbal behaviors and utterances. The backend system analyzes the tag input and adds implicit non-verbal behaviors accordingly. With the help of previous literature, the system is equipped with various communicative behaviors, so that the robot autonomously adjusts its gazes, gestures, and standing points. The system's effectiveness is demonstrated with examples on robot interaction where the system receives only simple sentences with scripting language to produce complex and communicative robot behaviors.

Bitcoin, as the first and the most adopted cryptocurrency, offers many features one of which is contingent payment, that is, the owner of money can programmatically describe the condition upon which his/her money is spent. The condition is determined using a set of instructions written in the Bitcoin scripting language. Unfortunately, this scripting language is not sophisticated enough to create complex conditions or smart contracts in general. Many admirable efforts have been made to build a smart contract infrastructure on top of the Bitcoin platform. In this paper, given the inherent limitations of the Bitcoin scripting language, we critically analyze the practical effectiveness of these methods. Afterwards, we formally define what a smart contract is and introduce seven requirements that if are satisfied, can make creation of smart contracts for Bitcoin possible. Based on the introduced requirements, we examine the ability of the current methods that use secure Multi-party Computation (MPC) to create smart contracts for Bitcoin and show where they fall short. We additionally compare their pros and cons and give clues on how a comprehensive smart contract platform can be possibly built for Bitcoin.

This research investigates the feasibility and usefulness of a Web-based model for end-user Web automation. The aim is to empower end users to automate their Web interactions. Web automation is defined here as the study of theoretical and practical techniques for applying an end-user programming model to enable the automation of Web tasks, activities, or interactions. To date, few tools address the issue of Web automation; moreover, their functionality and usage are limited. A novel model is presented, which combines end-user programming techniques and the software tools philosophy with the vision of the "Web as a platform." The model provided a Web-based environment that enables the rapid creation of efficient and useful Web-oriented automation tools. It consists of a command line for the Web, a shell scripting language, and a repository of Web commands. A framework called Web2Sh (Web 2.0 Shell) has been implemented, which includes the design and implementation of scripting language (WSh) enabling end users to create and customise Web commands. A number of Web2Sh-core Web commands were implemented. There are two techniques for extending the system: developers can implement new core Web commands, and the use of WSh by end users to connect, customise, and parameterise Web commands to create new commands. The feasibility and the usefulness of the proposed model have been demonstrated by implementing several automation scripts using Web2Sh, and by a case study based experiment that was carried out by volunteered participants. The implemented Web2Sh framework provided a novel and realistic environment for creating, customising, and running Web-oriented automation tools.

Attackers rely upon a vast array of tools for automating attacksagainst vulnerable servers and services. It is often the case thatwhen vulnerabilities are disclosed, scripts for detecting and exploit-ing them in tools such asNmapandMetasploitare released soonafter, leading to the immediate identification and compromise ofvulnerable systems. Honeypots, honeynets, tarpits, and other decep-tive techniques can be used to slow attackers down, however, such approaches have difficulty keeping up with the sheer number of vulnerabilities being discovered and attacking scripts that are being released. To address this issue, this paper describes an approach for applying concolic execution on attacking scripts in Nmap in order to automatically generate lightweight fake versions of the vulnerable services that can fool the scripts. By doing so in an automated and scalable manner, the approach can enable rapid deployment of custom honeyfarms that leverage the results of concolic execution to trick an attacker's script into returning a result chosen by the honeyfarm, making the script unreliable for the use by the attacker. © 2021 ACM.

Increased focus on Java Script performance has resulted in vast performance improvements for many benchmarks. However, for actual code used in websites, the attained improvements often lag far behind those for popular benchmarks. This paper shows that the main reason behind this shortfall is how the compiler understands types. Java Script has no concept of types, but the compiler assigns types to objects anyway for ease of code generation. We examine the way that the Chrome V8 compiler defines types, and identify two design decisions that are the main reasons for the lack of improvement: (1) the inherited prototype object is part of the current object's type definition, and (2) method bindings are also part of the type definition. These requirements make types very unpredictable, which hinders type specialization by the compiler. Hence, we modify V8 to remove these requirements, and use it to compile the Java Script code assembled by JSBench from real websites. On average, we reduce the execution time of JSBench by 36%, and the dynamic instruction count by 49%.

scripting languages such as Python and R have been widely adopted as tools for the productive development of scientific software because of the power and expressiveness of the languages and available libraries. However, deploying scripted applications on large-scale parallel computer systems such as the IBM Blue Gene/Q or Cray XE6 is a challenge because of issues including operating system limitations, interoperability challenges, parallel filesystem overheads due to the small file system accesses common in scripted approaches, and other issues. We present here a new approach to these problems in which the Swift scripting system is used to integrate high-level scripts written in Python, R, and Tcl, with native code developed in C, C++, and Fortran, by linking Swift to the library interfaces to the script interpreters. In this approach, Swift handles data management, movement, and marshaling among distributed-memory processes without direct user manipulation of low-level communication libraries such as MPI. We present a technique to efficiently launch scripted applications on large-scale supercomputers using a hierarchical programming model.

Complex operating system administration tasks can be automated and simplified by using scripting languages. For the Windows operating system, one of the most commonly used scripting languages is PowerShell. The PowerShell scripting language provides vast functionality for the system administrators. At the same time, it leaves a large attack surface for adversaries to bypass the OS protections. Signature and supervised machine learning based intrusion detection systems (IDS) can be used for monitoring and detecting such malicious scripts. However, the detection can be evaded by obfuscating the scripts. As the next step in the defense, we can use obfuscation itself as a reliable sign of malicious code. This thesis investigates the methods of detecting obfuscated PowerShell scripts with machine learning (ML) techniques. We trained the logistic regression, random forest and gradient boosting models on a balanced dataset. To generate the dataset, unobfuscated scripts were taken from open-source projects and they were obfuscated by open-source obfuscators. We then selected the most important independent features for obfuscation detection. The ML methods were compared using their ROC curves and AUC values. The best method turns out to be the gradient boosting model, which has the AUC close to one for the used dataset. Moreover, the model can classify a script faster than in one millisecond. Thus, the model can replace existing approaches to obfuscation detection, and it can be used by antivirus vendors in the process of detecting malicious PowerShell scripts.
