Under the low-carbon background, considering the source load storage optimal operation strategy of active distribution network (ADN) is of great significance to the low-carbon, economic and stable operation of ADN. Aiming at the and voltage out of limit problem caused by high proportion distributed energy access, this paper constructs a low-carbon ADN voltage coordination and optimization model considering load demand response and stepped carbon trading, and uses second order cone programming (SOCP) to convex the model. First of all, build the ADN power flow model, model and analyze the voltage coordination devices in the ADN, build the load side comprehensive demand response characteristic model, guide the load side schedulable resources to participate in the ADN voltage coordination and optimization control, and improve the traditional condition of relying only on controllable units. secondly, the ladder type carbon trading mechanism is introduced to build an ADN voltage coordination control model with low-carbon characteristics, to deeply explore the coordination ability of ADN voltage coordination control between economy and low-carbon, and to ensure that the system voltage is within the allowable range. Finally, CPLEX is used to solve the ADN voltage optimization model, which verifies the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed model and method.

A new heuristic for the Euclidean Steiner Tree Problem in Rⁿ

Given p points in R-n, called terminal points, the Euclidean Steiner Tree Problem (ESTP) consists of finding the shortest tree connecting them, using or not extra points, called Steiner points. This is a well-known NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem. Instances with thousands of points have been solved for n = 2. However, methods specialized for the ESTP in R-2 cannot be applied to problems in higher dimensions. Enumeration schemes have been proposed in the literature. Unfortunately, the number of Steiner trees having p terminal points grows extremely fast with p, so the enumeration of all trees is only possible for very small values of p. For n = 3, even small instances with tens of points cannot be solved with exact algorithms in a reasonable time. In this work, we present two heuristics for the ESTP. These heuristics differ from most existent ones in the literature in the fact that they do not rely on the minimum spanning tree of the terminal points. Instead, they start with a single extra point connected to all terminal points and new extra points are introduced iteratively according to angle properties for two consecutive edges. The heuristics return the optimal solution in most of the small test instances. For large instances, where the optimum is not known, the heuristics return relatively good solutions, according to their Steiner ratio.

Performance evaluation has been an important topic of concern for tourism industry practitioners as well as academic researchers, and its investigation in the UK hotel sector is paramount because this industry has been experiencing a higher level of competition. The present study contributes to the previous literature on hotel performance evaluation in general by proposing an innovative hybrid method combining the second-order cone programming (SOCP) method and multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method to estimate the performance of the UK hotel sector. The innovation lies in the synergistic combination of SOCP and MCDM methodologies, enabling a comprehensive assessment of hotel performance by managing a non-linear optimisation. Overall, this hybrid method benefits from the ability to be more flexible in addressing complex operational issues and provide more accurate results. This research provides a cost-benefit analysis within the proposed method, suggesting important policy implications in the tourism industry.

We present a fast trajectory optimization algorithm for the soft capture of uncooperative tumbling space objects. Our algorithm generates safe, dynamically feasible, and minimum-fuel trajectories for a six-degree-of-freedom servicing spacecraft to achieve soft capture (near-zero relative velocity at contact) between predefined locations on the servicer spacecraft and target body. We solve a convex problem by enforcing a convex relaxation of the field-of-view constraint, followed by a sequential convex program correcting the trajectory for collision avoidance. The optimization problems can be solved with a standard second-order cone programming solver, making the algorithm both fast and practical for implementation in flight software. We demonstrate the performance and robustness of our algorithm in simulation over a range of object tumble rates up to 10 degrees/s.

In the event of a major blackout caused by extreme weather events such as lightning strikes, distributed generators can be utilized to restore critical loads before the main grid resumes power supply. This paper proposes a strategy for restoring critical loads in a distribution network involving multiple distributed generators under lightning weather conditions. Firstly, a method based on Latin hypercube sampling is proposed to calculate the number of distribution line trips in a specific area under lightning weather. Subsequently, a fault restoration decision model for the distribution network under line trip failures is established, which is formulated as a relaxed mixed-integer second-order cone programming (MISOCP) problem. This formulation allows for easy resolution using off-the-shelf optimization tools. The proposed method determines the restored topology, the critical loads to be restored, and the power output of the distributed generators. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through numerical simulations on the modified 32-bus test system.

With the increase of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and Electric Vehicles (EVs), it is necessary to reasonably site and size DERs and EV charging stations in distribution networks (DNs), to make better use of energy and improve DN operation performances. Considering the obvious characteristics of DER output and EV charging demand with respect to time, the joint siting and sizing of DERs and EV charging stations in DNs may achieve better performances by making use of such characteristics. The problem is a difficult optimization with mixed discrete and continuous decision variables, and is difficult to be directly solved by using traditional mathematical programming methods. This paper presents a model of joint siting and sizing of DERs and EV charging stations with the objective of minimizing charging station investments and DN performance indices. The model is solved in two stages: first, siting of EV charging stations is determined by using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm, and second, siting and sizing of DERs are solved by using second-order cone programming (SOCP). Numerical examples on the IEEE 33-bus network are presented to demonstrate effectiveness of our method. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Co., Ltd. 2025.

A New Global Solver for Transmission Expansion Planning With AC Network Model

To design a reliable and secure power system, it is necessary to have enough transmission capacity. The solution of transmission expansion planning (TEP) problem determines cost-optimal investment in future transmission equipment. In this paper, we propose a new global solver, named Global-TEP, for the TEP problem with an AC network representation (ACTEP), which is a mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem. The proposed solver is based on second-order cone relaxation, enhanced relaxation tightening constraints, and optimization-based/feasibility-based bound tightening techniques. Multiple enhanced relaxation tightening constraints are incorporated into the mixed-integer second-order cone relaxation of TEP in order to obtain a very strong relaxation as the lower bounding problem. In addition, a novel feasibility-based bound tightening technique is proposed to tighten the bounds of decision variables in a considerably short runtime. Finally, introducing a novel application of optimization-based bound tightening technique, Global-TEP is constructed that can solve the ACTEP problem efficiently with a guaranteed optimality gap. As illustrated by numerical case studies, Global-TEP is more scalable, more flexible, and much faster than the available global solvers.

We consider a constrained Markov decision process (CMDP) with total reward criterion under random reward and cost parameters, and known transition probabilities. The CMDP problem is formulated as a joint chance-constrained Markov decision process (JCCMDP) which captures the situation where the decision maker is interested in the payoff function that is obtained with certain confidence and the random constraints are jointly satisfied with a given probability level. When the reward and cost vectors follow elliptically symmetric distributions and dependence among constraints is driven by a Gumbel-Hougaard copula, we show that the upper and lower bounds to the optimal value of the JCCMDP problem is given by the optimal values of two second-order cone programming problems. As an application, we consider a budget optimization of the advertising platforms and perform numerical experiments on randomly generated instances.

In the process of distribution network reconstruction, the problem of nonlinear optimization is formed by connecting distributed power supply and dispatching controllable components. Using mathematical optimization method, the output state of switch and control unit is considered comprehensively to optimize the current margin and reduce the network loss. The node voltage constraint is effectively relaxed by large M constraint, and the initial model is transformed by Ll-box and second-order cone relaxation techniques, and a mixed integer programming model based on Ll-box is constructed. Yalmip toolkit is used for modeling, and Cplex algorithm package is called for efficient solution. The example shows that the method is reasonable and effective, which can not only reduce network loss and improve node voltage effectively, but also leave more safety margin for the system. It helps to improve the operation efficiency and reliability of the distribution network. © 2024 IEEE.
