A numerical technique particularly suited for the determination of the dielectric properties of materials is proposed in this paper. The method combines the Boundary Integral-Resonant Mode Expansion (BI-RME) method and the segmentation technique. The circuit used for the unknown sample testing is segmented into homogeneously-filled building blocks. The admittance matrix of each building block is represented through a pole-expansion, and the electrical properties of the material appears explicitly in this expression. Therefore, when using an iterative process as discussed in this paper, the identification of the unknown electrical characteristics of the material does not require repeated full-wave analyses but only circuital matrix recombination. A simple yet meaningful computational example is reported, consisting of a waveguide with a pipe for the characterization of fluids or powders, which demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach

Image processing technology has many applications, such as medical image processing, face detection and vehicle detection. At present, in the field of civil engineering, there are many difficulties in the intelligent manufacturing process of precast concrete elements (PCEs), such as non-contact measurement of PCEs using 3D laser scanners. In order to solve the data acquisition problem of PCE data in outdoor laser scan data, this paper is the first attempt to map a 3D laser scan data into 2D images, and then use image processing technology to realize the segmentation of outdoor laser scan data which contains the PCE data. We convert the processed objects from laser scan data to images, and computation time is reduced effectively as a result. This segmentation technique includes four steps, data preprocessing, 3D laser scan data mapping into 2D images, image processing for segmentation and laser scan data processing. Finally, the results obtained by experiments prove the effectiveness of this segmentation technique.

This paper presents the application of the generalized boundary integral-resonant mode expansion (BI-RME) method to the analysis of dielectric-loaded waveguide filters. The method is based on the segmentation/recombination technique, which permits to divide the component into homogeneously-filled building blocks. The BI-RME method is used to calculate the generalized admittance matrix (GAM) of each arbitrarily shaped building block by solving an integral equation, which is obtained enforcing the appropriate boundary condition to the electromagnetic field. The GAMs are then cascaded to obtain the frequency response of the whole component. Any possible shape of the interconnecting surfaces can be treated with this implementation due to the adoption of the RWG basis functions to represent the unknown electric and magnetic surface currents. The theory of the method is outlined in this paper, and a numerical example demonstrates the capabilities of the proposed algorithm.

This paper presents a numerical technique particularly suited for the determination of the dielectric properties of unknown materials. The technique is based on the Boundary Integral-Resonant Mode Expansion (BI-RME) method combined with a segmentation technique. The circuit under test is subdivided into homogeneously-filled building blocks. Due to the particular pole-expansion representation of the admittance matrix of each building blocks, where the complex dielectric constant appears explicitly, the iterative identification of the unknown electrical characteristics of the material does not require repeated full-wave analyses. A computational example based on a simple yet meaningful canonical shape is reported, to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed technique. Moreover, the algorithm for the automatic identification of the material characteristics in case of general shapes is discussed.

This paper presents a novel technique for the numerical modeling of piecewise-homogeneous waveguide components. The component is segmented into homogeneous boxed building blocks, and the generalized admittance matrix of each building block is determined by the Boundary Integral-Resonant Mode Expansion (BI-RME) method, using the Ewald technique to calculate the Green's function of the box. The frequency response of the whole component is obtained by cascading the admittance matrices of the building blocks. Two examples demonstrate the capabilities of the proposed algorithm.

Background: There exist many segmentation techniques for genomic sequences, and the segmentations can also be based on many different biological features. We show how to evaluate and compare the quality of segmentations obtained by different techniques and alternative biological features. Results: We apply randomization techniques for evaluating the quality of a given segmentation. Our example applications include isochore detection and the discovery of coding-noncoding structure. We obtain segmentations of relevant sequences by applying different techniques, and use alternative features to segment on. We show that some of the obtained segmentations are very similar to the underlying true segmentations, and this similarity is statistically significant. For some other segmentations, we show that equally good results are likely to appear by chance. Conclusion: We introduce a framework for evaluating segmentation quality, and demonstrate its use on two examples of segmental genomic structures. We transform the process of quality evaluation from simply viewing the segmentations, to obtaining p-values denoting significance of segmentation similarity.

An Event-Triggered Machine Learning Approach for Accelerometer-Based Fall Detection

The fixed-size non-overlapping sliding window (FNSW) and fixed-size overlapping sliding window (FOSW) approaches are the most commonly used data-segmentation techniques in machine learning-based fall detection using accelerometer sensors. However, these techniques do not segment by fall stages (pre-impact, impact, and post-impact) and thus useful information is lost, which may reduce the detection rate of the classifier. Aligning the segment with the fall stage is difficult, as the segment size varies. We propose an event-triggered machine learning (EvenT-ML) approach that aligns each fall stage so that the characteristic features of the fall stages are more easily recognized. To evaluate our approach, two publicly accessible datasets were used. Classification and regression tree (CART), k-nearest neighbor (k-NN), logistic regression (LR), and the support vector machine (SVM) were used to train the classifiers. EvenT-ML gives classifier F-scores of 98% for a chest-worn sensor and 92% for a waist-worn sensor, and significantly reduces the computational cost compared with the FNSW-and FOSW-based approaches, with reductions of up to 8-fold and 78-fold, respectively. EvenT-ML achieves a significantly better F-score than existing fall detection approaches. These results indicate that aligning feature segments with fall stages significantly increases the detection rate and reduces the computational cost.

This paper presents an enhanced technique for the numerical modeling of waveguide components. The component is segmented into building blocks, and the Boundary Integral-Resonant Mode Expansion (BI-RME) method is used for the calculation of the generalized admittance matrix (GAM) of each building block. To preserve the generality of the method, RWG basis functions are defined on the surface of each building block to represent the unknown electric and magnetic surface currents, and each entry of the GAM relates a pair of basis functions. The theory previously developed for the analysis of boxed building blocks is extended to arbitrarily shaped blocks. An integral equation is formulated by imposing appropriate boundary conditions to the electromagnetic field. Thanks to the particular BI-RME representation of the kernel, the integral equation is converted into a linear eigenvalue problem, whose solution lead to the determination of the GAM. By cascading the GAMs of the building blocks, the frequency response of the whole component is finally obtained. The theory of the method is outlined in this paper, and numerical examples demonstrate the capabilities of the proposed algorithm.

Considering that the traditional gateway can't meet the requirements of the increasingly strict network security management, here we propose a design of security gateway based on firewall technology. We realize the real-time, dynamic and fine-grained control of the internal and external network of the gateway. This article introduces a method for gateway to be built, and it's based on the firewall in Linux system. I use both the rule priority and heap sort method to optimize the efficiency of the gateway. It can be proved that the gateway based on heap sort and rule priority evaluation method can effectively reduce the time to solve the exception rule and improve the efficiency of abnormal rules.

We propose a denoising and segmentation technique for the second heart sound (S2). To denoise, Matching Pursuit (MP) was applied using a set of non-linear chirp signals as atoms. We show that the proposed method can be used to segment the phonocardiogram of the second heart sound into its two clinically meaningful components: the aortic (A2) and pulmonary (P2) components.
