Design of freely suspended photonic crystal microfiber cavity sensors array in a general single mode fiber

We propose a novel design of refractive index (RI) sensor array based on ultrahigh sensitivity one dimensional (1D) photonic crystal microfiber (PCMF) cavities, which is referred as photonic crystal microfiber cavity sensors array (PCMF-CSA). The proposed PCMF-CSA consists of multiple channels connected in parallel. A transmission only containing the fundamental mode (FM) resonance of the PCMF cavity sensor for sensing purpose is created by connecting an additional PCMF bandgap filter to a PCMF cavity sensor in series on each channel. Due to the photonic bandgap (PBG) of the PCMF bandgap filter, the other high-order resonances are filtered out. With proper engineering of the PBG, multiple ultrahigh sensitivity PCMF cavity sensors can be integrated into microarrays without resonance overlap, and be detected simultaneously between a single input optical fiber and a single output optical fiber without the need for complicated coupling systems. The concept was demonstrated with 7-channel PCMF cavity sensor array containing PCMF bandgap fillers. By using three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (3D-FDTD) method, the performance of the device was investigated theoretically. The simulation results showed that the sensors on each channels can be monitored simultaneously from a single output spectrum. The numerical calculated RI sensitivities (S) for each sensing channel of the proposal 7-channel PCMF-CSA as high as 647.33 nm/RIU, 666.67 nm/RIU, 662.00 nm/RIU, 676.00 nm/RIU, 674.67 nm/RIU, 659.33 nm/RIU, 679.99 nm/RIU can be achieved, respectively. The average RI sensitivity as high as 666.57 nm/RIU can be obtained. Moreover, the extinction ratios of all resonant peaks exceed 20.0 dB. The crosstalk of all channels is lower than -24.5 dB. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first silica PCMF sensors array geometry based on conventional single mode fiber (SMF) that features both high Q and S, and thus is potentially a promising platform for ultra-sensitive RI-base

Design of side-coupled cascaded photonic crystal sensors array with ultra-high figure of merit

we propose a side-coupled cascaded photonic crystal sensors array (SCCPhCSA) with ultra-high figure of merit (FOM). The design consists of a photonic crystal waveguide (PCW) with changed lattice constants and three cascaded dumbbell-like resonant cavities (DLRCs) are side-coupled to the PCW. The result of finite-different time-domain (FDTD) simulation indicates that each sensing unit of the sensors array possesses a high quality factor (Q) of similar to 70,000 and high sensitivity up to 260 nm/RIU, resulting in FOM of similar to 12,000. To our best knowledge, this value is optimized for photonic crystal sensors array by now and it means our design is a promising candidate for large degree of multiplexing sensing.

Acceleration sensors array can effectively measure 6-DOF high-frequency vibration parameters of many dimensions linear vibration and angular vibration. In engineering, single axis sensors introduce several errors. They also require more space to fix in and increase the computational complexity. The new scheme applying 3-axis acceleration sensors instead of single axis sensors can solve the problem above with effect. Simultaneously, the feasibility of the scheme was verified by principle derivation and model simulation.

Agriculture sectors have increased in sizes and numbers due to the expansion of human population. Human population growth has caused the demand in food, cloth, transportation, shelter etc. to increase tremendously. Essentially speaking, those surpluses of demands will adversely affect the production of agriculture sectors. In order to obtain high yield, the farmers might be overusing the fertilizer for their crops. These overused fertilizers will be dissolved in the nearest water resources such as river, pond and well. Hence, the natural water resources will be contaminated by these overused fertilizers. In this situation, there is a need for a sensor which could determine the contamination level in natural water resources. This project proposed low-cost sensor arrays based on planar electromagnetic sensors to monitor the contamination in the natural water resources. The sensors consist of three electromagnetic sensors that have been constructed in three types of configuration array namely, parallel, star, and delta. The modeling and simulation of the sensors were done by using COMSOL Multiphysics 4.2 software. Each sensor's input was assign to 10 Volt peak to peak voltages and then the impedance of each sensor was obtained. In practical application, the impedance of these sensors will determine the contamination level of the water under test. The contamination condition was simulated by changing the electrical properties of the environment domain of the model that suit contamination condition. The impedance of each sensor was tabulated according to the increasing of frequency of the supply voltages. Hence, the best configuration of the planar electromagnetic sensors array for detection of contamination inside the natural water will be determined based on the sensitivity. This type of sensors will provide the in-situ measurement system which will save the cost and consequently the time required for each sample.

This paper introduces the principle of sensors array autonomous localization system. Base on the analysis of the localization precision decline reason in the marine environment, one kind of sensors array autonomous localization error correction algorithm is described in this paper. This approach can decrease the error interference introduced by the external environment, enhance the localization precision. And through the simulation, data analysis and compare, the results show that the approach is promising tools to enhance the precision of sensors array autonomous localization effectively.

Pipeline transportation, as it is low cost, steady supply and high efficiency, is widely used nowadays. However, pipelines might be damaged by natural power or human activities. Thus, pipeline status monitoring, including transmogrification, corrosion, flaw and crack, shows up more and more important. This paper presents a method using magnetic field measurement system which based on AMR (anisotropy magnetic resistance) sensors array to imaging the pipe's bug. Compared with single sensor, it can capture more all-around information about the magnetic field distribution on pipe wall, and it can make the detection more veracity;Compared with the traditional pipeline pig, which based on Hall elements, it provides greater sensitivity. A mechanical model of relationships between the pipe's bug and the magnetic field distribution is given;In this AMR measurement system, the hardware includes arrangement sensors, Set/Reset circuits, amplifiers, multiplexers, DSP device, data radio module and power supply;and software contains an auto-calibration algorithm, and a VC display program of the measured magnetic field. An experimental pipe bug is detected and the magnetic field is discussed.

6-DOF vibration parameters test belongs to high-frequency absolute test of multidimensional linear vibration and angular *** devices such as gyroscope are hard to meet the environment of high frequency,and the form of vibration increase the difficulty of untying coupling calculation.A test method based on acceleration sensors array was put forward to be used in fire-new vibration environment to solve the problem,that it is difficult to measure 6-DOF vibration parameters effectively using the technology of GFSINS for *** tests the vibration using the complex algorithm by the specific location and direction of ***,taking scheme using nine acceleration sensors for an example,it deduced the algorithm of the scheme,and verified the feasibility of the method by model simulation.

Tracking system with five degrees of freedom using a 2D-array of Hall sensors and a permanent magnet

Based on a 2D-array of 16 cylindrical Hall sensors and a permanent magnet, a tracking system with five degrees of freedom is analysed in this paper. The system accuracy is studied, including offset drifts, sensitivity mismatches and the number of sensors. A detection distance as large as 14 cm (during 1 h without calibration) is achieved using a magnet of 0.2 cm(3). The position and orientation of the marker is displayed in real time with a sampling frequency up to 50 Hz. The sensing system is small enough to be hand-held and can be used in a normal environment.
