Hierarchical deviant processing in auditory cortex of awake mice

Detecting patterns, and noticing unexpected pattern changes, in the environment is a vital aspect of sensory processing. Adaptation and prediction error responses are two components of neural processing related to these tasks, and previous studies in the auditory system in rodents show that these two components are partially dissociable in terms of the topography and latency of neural responses to sensory deviants. However, many previous studies have focused on repetitions of single stimuli, such as pure tones, which have limited ecological validity. In this study, we tested whether the auditory cortical activity shows adaptation to repetition of more complex sound patterns (disyllabic pairs). Specifically, we compared neural responses to violations of sequences based on single stimulus probability only, against responses to more complex violations based on stimulus order. We employed an auditory oddball paradigm and monitored the auditory cortex (AC) activity of awake mice (N = 8) using wide-field calcium imaging. We found that cortical responses were sensitive both to single stimulus probabilities and to more global stimulus patterns, as mismatch signals were elicited following both substitution deviants and transposition deviants. Notably, higher order AC area elicited larger mismatch signaling to those deviants than primary AC, which suggests a hierarchical gradient of prediction error signaling in the auditory cortex. Such a hierarchical gradient was observed for late but not early peaks of calcium transients to deviants, suggesting that the late part of the deviant response may reflect prediction error signaling in response to more complex sensory pattern violations. Significance statement: Detecting the unexpected change of patterns from the dynamic environment is vital for sensory processing, as it is essential to survival for humans and animals. A Practical Large-Scale Distribution Network Planning Model Based on Elite Ant-Q

In order to effectively apply the detailed geographic and load information provided by digital technology, this paper proposes a practical double-Q planning model for large-scale medium voltage distribution network. Meanwhile, a coding method and an elite Ant-Q algorithm(EAQ) suitable for solving the model in this paper are proposed. Based on the basic characteristics of the medium voltage distribution network, the components in the distribution network are abstracted into nodes and branches in the graph theory. A variety of practical issue, such as cost parameters (investments, maintenance, reliability) and technical constraints (feeder capacity constraints, number constraints of substation feeder), as well as road network constraints and connection mode constraints are taken into consideration. In addition, the storage of road network matrix information, reliability evaluation algorithm and model solving algorithm are suitable for large-scale distribution network. Finally, the proposed model and algorithm are applied to a business area to be planned in Guangzhou, which verifies the effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm.

This article describes a 32-Gb/s sequence-coded link. We introduce a self-converging and reduced state trellis structure that can be configured as pulse amplitude modulation (PAM)-4 or PAM-5. Exploiting the channel ISI, the transmitter creates a trellis structure by independently setting the tap weights and skew between the MSB and LSB digital-to-analog converters (DACs). The receiver, including the digital decoder, consumes only 52 mW. The implemented transceiver in 28-nm fully depleted silicon-on-insulator (FDSOI) operates up to 32 Gb/s with 2.6-pJ/bit efficiency compensating up to 30-dB loss. sequence-coded PAM-5 reduces hardware complexity by 66 compared to one-tap loop-unrolled decision feedback equalization (DFE) for similar performance. Compared to conventional PAM-4, the proposed sequence-coded PAM-4 link provides 4-dB SNR gain for a 10-dB loss channel and 6-dB SNR gain for 30-dB loss channel with 12.5 bandwidth overhead.

Efficient image sequence coding exploits both spatial correlation and temporal correlation. SPIHT is a powerful algorithm in exploiting spatial correlations for still image coding. Based on SPIHT, we present a novel approach to exploit temporal correlations for image sequence coding, while maintaining single frame, random access decoding. The socalled Differential-SPIHT takes advantage of inter-frame correlations by reusing the significance testing data of a SPIHT coded frame. From simulation results of videos and volumetric medical images, Differential-SPIHT offers significant reductions in bitrate from conventional two-dimensional (2D) SPIHT for the same reconstruction PSNR, while retaining the desirables features of rate scalability and computational simplicity.

Depth Measurement Based on Infrared Coded Structured Light

Depth measurement is a challenging problem in computer vision research. In this study, we first design a new grid pattern and develop a sequence coding and decoding algorithm to process the pattern. Second, we propose a linear fitting algorithm to derive the linear relationship between the object depth and pixel shift. Third, we obtain depth information on an object based on this linear relationship. Moreover, 3D reconstruction is implemented based on Delaunay triangulation algorithm. Finally, we utilize the regularity of the error curves to correct the system errors and improve the measurement accuracy. The experimental results show that the accuracy of depth measurement is related to the step length of moving object.

This paper investigates the defect of noises in DNA computing, proposing an DNA encoding feedback algorithm based on Rough Set theory: reduction the encoding standards expected through the Rough Set theory, and filter the DNA encoding sets using the selection algorithm in feedback, gain the initial encoding sequence library, and construct an optimized method for DNA encoding selection algorithm based on Rough Set theoryExperimental results indicate that the method can effectively weaken the complexity of DNA encoding caused by the invalid constraint conditions.

A complex sequence learning task was used to determine if the type of coding acquired through physical practice (PP), observation of the stimulus (Obs-S), or observation of stimulus and action (Obs-SA) differs between conditions and whether the type of observation influences subsequent learning of the task when physical practice was permitted. Participants in the Obs-S group were permitted to watch the sequentially illuminated stimuli on the screen. In the Obs-SA group participants could see both flexion-extension movements of the model's arm performing the sequence and the sequentially illuminated stimuli on the screen. Participants in the PP group actually performed the 16-element sequence with their dominant right arm. Delayed retention tests and two inter-manual transfer tests were completed following each of two acquisition sessions. First, the data indicated that learning the sequence structure, as revealed by response time per element, occurred similarly irrespective of the initial practice condition. Secondly, the movement sequence appeared to be coded in abstract visual-spatial coordinates resulting in effector-independent performance. Finally, observing the model's action and sequential stimuli allows participants to transfer the perceived aspects of the movement sequence into efficient coordination patterns when additional physical practice is permitted. Protein Functional Class Prediction Based on Clustering

Protein functional prediction is becoming a challenge in the post-genomic era. Therefore, it is in high demand to develop an automated method which can predict the protein functional class rapidly and accurately. In this paper, we propose a ProfileAA coding and an ExtendProfile coding, then evaluate and compare the two coding methods. Furthermore we choose the ProfileAA coding, which integrates amino acid composition information with amino acid physical and chemical properties information. Moreover, by comparing the coding with three other coding methods, we find that this coding is more reasonable. Next, we predict the protein functional class based on Shortest Path Clustering, combining with nearest neighbor algorithm (NNA). The experimental result shows that our method is more efficient to predict protein functional class.

The performance of direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems may be significantly degraded if the system is severely jammed. In this paper, we propose a blind hostile jamming suppression and multi-user detection (MUD) scheme for the uplink of hostile jamming dominant DS-CDMA system. Based on using dual receive antennas, this scheme exploits the unknown spatial correlation of the jamming components between two antennas to eliminate the unknown hostile jamming and then performs MUD based independent component analysis (ICA). Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme perform well in hostile jamming dominant scenario.

To handle massive binary-coding infeasible solutions in distribution network reconfiguration, a sequence coding is presented A loop is a gene and the switch sequence in the loop is the gene value. To resolve mutation probability and slow later-period convergence in clonal genetic algorithm(CGA), particle clonal genetic algorithm(PCGA) is proposed It builds particle swarm algorithm(PSO) mutation operator;and makes up premature convergence of PSO and blindness of CGA. It ensures evolution direction and range based on historical records and swarm records. Global optimal solution is found with fewer generations and shorter searching time. IEEE69 example shows that the method can save calculation time and promote search efficiency obviously.
