Real-time motion control of a nonholonomic mobile robot in a dynamic environment, especially in the case of multiobjective control, is a challenging problem. Model predictive control (MPC) as an optimization based control algorithm has the ability to deal with complex systems, like multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) system, in a dynamic environment. However, due to the complexity of optimization algorithms, the implementation of MPC in real-time applications, especially for the systems with fast transient behaviors is very challenging. With the advent of processors with the ability of parallel computing like FPGAs and GPUs, the application of MPC has become reachable. In this study, the algorithm of optimization problem as the core part of the MPC for motion control of a two-wheel differential robot was developed. Considering the final objective of coding the optimization algorithm on FPGA, the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method was selected as the optimization algorithm. The specific algorithm equations and matrices were derived based on a simplified nonlinear model. The algorithms were then be coded in MATLAB and used to control a two-wheel robot in the simulation. This paper present the MPC design process and simulation results for the cases of path tracking and point tracking.

In modular and scalable matrix converters, which are deployed to interface the medium/high-power grids, there is huge interest to enhance the high computational burden of prevalent control schemes, such as model predictive control (MPC). In this paper, the operational performance of the Modular Multilevel Matrix Converter (M3C) is studied to transfer power generated by offshore wind farm and to interconnect the three-phase AC grid. The two-level structure control design is realized, of which a first-level predictive controller based on a Finite Control-Set Model Predictive Control (FCS-MPC) generates an initial controlled variables to regulate the converter branch voltages and currents. The second-level iterative controller is embedded into an integrated perturbation analysis and sequential quadratic programming (IPA-SQP) algorithm for handling uncertainty and updating weighting factors. The complete control scheme aiming to reduce sampling time and optimization of variable constraints, thus its optimality is proved through simulation analysis for a designed system with an equal or low operating frequency at the input or output AC systems for a M3C with 9-level line-to-line voltage.

There are mainly two types of synergetic maneuvers for aeroassisted orbital transfer, which are called aeroglide and aerocruise. Aerocruise mode is considered as means for maximizing the plane change of a circular orbit by considering heating rate when the vehicle maneuvers from high Earth orbit to low Earth orbit. For aerocruise, the maneuver is divided into three phases: descent, cruise, and ascent. In cruise mode the vehicle flies at a constant altitude when thrust is used to cancel the drag and the heating rate is effectively restrained. The heating-rate-constrained aerocruise scheme which consists of cruise altitude, cruise velocity and angle of attack are optimized by using sequential quadratic programming(SQP). The effectivity of the algorithm and existence of the optimal solution are both validated by simulation experiments. Numerical results show that the orbital change ability is closely related to the maximum allowable heating rate. The maximum plane change is obtained when the vehicle remains on the heating-rate boundary. The optimality of the aerocruise maneuver is guaranteed by considering the optimized aerocruise scheme as performance index of descent trajectory optimization.

In order to further improve the control ability of dynamic positioning ship or platform under complex sea conditions,the controller and thrust allocation system of dynamic positioning are designed.A simplified three-degree-of-freedom MMG mathematical model is established for the pod full-rotation propeller used in most dynamic positioning *** the basis of retaining the advantages of active disturbance rejection control,the sliding mode variable structure control method is adopted to design the control *** objective function and constraints of thrust allocation are designed based on the lowest energy consumption,and the sequential quadratic programming algorithm is used to calculate the real-time thrust allocation of each *** simulation results of the ship dynamic positioning system in MATLAB show that the controller can maintain the stability and robustness of the system under the condition of external environment disturbance,and the results of the thrust allocation are reasonable,which has a certain reference value for the further study of the ship dynamic positioning control system.

Formulating Optimal Power Flow Problems is well-known since the 1960s, but solving those problems to global optimality is challenging until today, due to the nonconvex characteristic of the embedded functions and the huge number of variables and constraints. To handle nonconvexities they have to be eliminated or convexificated. Nonlinear equality constraints are always nonconvex and can be eliminated by inserting them or their inverse function into the objective functions and into all constraints. In this paper the power equation is expanded by a distributed slack, inverted end eliminated as described. The optimization in this paper is done by sequentially solving quadratically constrained quadratic programs (SQCQP). The remaining nonconvex parts of the objective function and the constraints of each QCQP are identified by principal axis transformation and analysis of eigenvalues and then convexificated by piecewise linearization. Thus, a mixed-integer convex quadratically constrained quadratic problem results, which can be solved fast and reliably with e. g. CPLEX or Gurobi. The high accuracy of the convexficated quadratic approximations and fast convergence of the sequential approach is shown in case studies.

This paper presents a reduced order model based optimal oscillation damping controller (OODC) design for DFIG integrated power system. The objective of the proposed OODC is to shift critical inter-area modes of the system to optimal location considering the impact of control on dynamics of synchronous generators and DFIG. A reduced order model that captures all the relevant system dynamics is first obtained, and an objective cost function is formulated to include the damping of critical modes. Then an optimization architecture is designed for finding the optimal gain. The results of eigenvalue analysis and non-linear time domain simulation performed on the modified Kundur two area system are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed OODC to effectively damp the oscillations of the system.

This paper presents a computationally efficient velocity control of vehicles driving in a possibly hilly terrain and over long look-ahead horizons that may stretch to hundreds of kilometers. The controller decouples gear scheduling into an offline optimization problem, from the remaining optimization problem that governs two real-valued states. One of the states, the travel time, is adjoined to the objective by applying the necessary optimality conditions, which results into an online optimization problem that has kinetic energy as the single state. Finally an inner approximation is proposed for the online problem to obtain a quadratic program that can be solved efficiently. In order to increase the stability and accuracy of the dynamic data reconciliation, this paper proposes a new piecewise robust estimation function as the objective function of dynamic data reconciliation, it combines the advantages of robust M-estimator and least squares estimator. This function corrects the random error and gross error with different weights, and enhances the stability and accuracy of the reconciled results. The performance of the robust new objective function is proved by CSTR simulation. In order to further improve the performance, a robust dynamic data reconciliation method combining the improved particle swarm optimization and sequential quadratic programming is proposed for constrained nonlinear optimization problems. The simulation results show that the method can reduce fluctuation of the reconciled value which is closer to the true value.

Natural Gas (NG), which represents 95% of the fuel mix in stationary power generation in Singapore, has been seen as the replacement of traditional pollutant-heavy fuels such as diesel. In the microgrid context, NG is a crucial raw material for powering principal components such as the Reciprocating Engine (RE), which provides the base load when the microgrid is in islanded mode. In this study, the effect of NC prices on the financial viability of operating a microgrid which integrates Combined Heat and Power, solar PV, electrochemical storage, vapour chiller and the main grid has been investigated. The economic dispatch of the components indicate that at an increase of NG price by 20 cents reduces the operating hours per day of the RE by nearly half, with the option of purchasing from the grid preferred instead. Furthermore, at a higher fuel price the battery is required to operate at a heavier duty cycle, thus reducing its lifetime. A positive Net Present Value (NPV) in the order of millions of SGD is obtained in the NG price range of SGD0.4-0.6 per kg after 20 years, whilst at a price of SGD0.8 per kg, the microgrid fails to provide a positive NPV. The option of regasitication of LNG prior to feeding it into the RE has been found to provide a maximum amount of cold energy in the region of 500kWh per day.

Structure from Motion (SfM) and semantic segmentation are two branches of computer vision. However, few previous methods integrate the two branches together. SfM is limited by the precision of traditional feature detecting method, especially in complicated scenes. As the research field of semantic segmentation thrives, we could gain semantic information of high confidence in each specific task with little effort. By utilizing semantic segmentation information, our paper presents a new way to boost the accuracy of feature point matching. Besides, with the semantic constraints taken from the result of semantic segmentation, a new bundle adjustment method with equality constraint is proposed. By exploring the sparsity of equality constraint, it indicates that constrained bundle adjustment can be solved by sequential quadratic programming (SQP) efficiently. The proposed approach achieves state of the art accuracy, and, by grouping the descriptors together by their semantic labels, the speed of putative matches is slightly boosted. Moreover, our approach demonstrates a potential of automatic labeling of semantic segmentation. In a nutshell, our work strongly verifies that SfM and semantic segmentation benefit from each other.
