A new division algorithm over GF(2(m)) is presented. The serial-in, parallel-outstructure is independent of the defining polynomial of the field, and uses operands represented in canonical basis. Because of its regularity and simplified control structure, the resulting divider is hardware efficient and suitable for VLSI implementation.
