Reversible joint fingerprinting and decryption based on side match vector quantization

This paper proposes a joint fingerprinting and decryption (JFD) based on side match vector quantization (SMVQ) for transmitting confidential information and traitor tracing in multimedia distribution. With the help of SMVQ the proposed scheme can extract the fingerprint without referring to the original image. In addition, after the extraction of the fingerprint, the fingerprinted copy can be completely recovered to the un-fingerprinted version. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme can achieve high perceptual security (with PSNR below 12 on average), high fingerprinted visual quality (with PSNR above 28 on average), and desirable fingerprint payload (about 0.6 bit/per block).(C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. A reversible and high-payload image steganographic scheme implemented in the SMVQ compression domain of image is proposed. This scheme focuses both on the payload of the compressed cover image at the transmitter and on the visual quality of the restored cover image at the receiver. In addition, keeping an acceptable bit rate for the cover image is another goal of the proposed scheme since the secret data are sheltered by and delivered through the compression codes. Moreover, the proposed scheme is reversible. The original SMVQ-compressed cover image can be losslessly restored from the compression codes at the receiver. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme is feasible for secret communication. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A reversible data hiding scheme makes it possible to extract secret data and recover the cover image without any distortion. This paper presents a novel reversible data hiding scheme based on side-match vector quantization (SMVQ). If the original SMVQ index value of an image block is larger than a threshold, a technique called state-codebook sorting (SCS) is used to create two state-codebooks to re-encode the block with a smaller index. In this way, more indices are distributed around zero, so the embedding scheme only needs a few bits to encode the indices, which produces more extra space for hiding secret data. The experimental results indicate that the proposed scheme is superior to some previous schemes in embedding performance while maintaining the same visual quality as that of VQ compression.

This paper presents a new approach that aims to improve the performance of the intra block coding of H.264/AVC and HEVC by using a finite state machine. Based on the high correlations between a frame's neighboring blocks, the finite state machine is employed at both the encoder and decoder to reduce the number of bits required for intra encoding, improving the coding performance of videos. With the matching adaptive template, a better prediction block is found. Through the proposed extra intra prediction modes, the number of bits required to encode a block is reduced significantly, and thus a better intra coding performance is achieved. In addition, an early termination is proposed to speed-up the coding performance. Experimental results show that with the proposed method, the bit rate can be reduced 11% on average when compared to H.264/AVC and 4% on average when compared to HEVC. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. Data hiding is a process that includes converting the secret data like a video file, an audio file, an image, etc. into cover data. It is popularly used in various applications like medical fields, military applications, etc. The reversible data hiding is nowadays the most used research area in the field of secret data hiding. In this project, side-match vector quantization and image inpainting is used for an integrated data-hiding and compression scheme that is used for digital images. A combined data hiding and compression technique which is based on SMVQ (side-match vector quantization) and image inpainting is proposed. Two functions, data hiding and image compression can be integrated into one single code to secure the private data more efficiently.

An Adaptive Data Hiding System Based on SMVQ

Based on side-match vector quantization (SMVQ), the authors propose two schemes to embed more secret information without significantly sacrificing the compression ratio. The data transform scheme improves the embedding capacity while maintaining the same compression ratio. The direct embedding scheme improves the embedding capacity at the expense of increasing the compression ratio slightly. According to various demands of a user, the integrated system can adaptively select a suitable method from the proposed ones. Experimental results show that the adaptive system provides the users with full flexibility and preserves a balance between the embedding capacity and compression ratio.

A reversible image steganographic scheme implemented in the SMVQ compression domain of image is proposed. The goal of this scheme is to hide secret data into the compression codes of image by applying the SMVQ state codebook. In addition to reversibility and high-payload, the bit rate of the compressed cover image is another consideration in the proposed scheme since the secret data are delivered through the compression codes of cover image. To compact the volume of the overall data needed to be transmitted, the Huffman coding technique is applied. By the proposed scheme, the original VQ-compressed cover image can be restored losslessly at the receiver. Simulation results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed scheme.

An error resilient coding scheme for JPEG image transmission based on data embedding and side-match vector quantization

For an entropy-coded Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) image, a transmission error in a codeword will not only affect the underlying codeword but also may affect subsequent codewords, resulting in a great degradation of the received image. In this study, an error resilient coding scheme for JPEG image transmission based on data embedding and side-match vector quantization (VQ) is proposed. To cope with the synchronization problem, the restart capability of JPEG images is enabled. The objective of the proposed scheme is to recover high-quality JPEG images from the corresponding corrupted images. At the encoder, the important data (the codebook index) for each Y (U or V) block in a JPEG image are extracted and embedded into another "masking" Y (U or V) block in the image by the odd-even data embedding scheme. At the decoder, after all the corrupted blocks within a JPEG image are detected and located, if the codebook index for a corrupted block can be correctly extracted from the corresponding "masking" block, the extracted codebook index will be used to conceal the corrupted block;otherwise, the side-match VQ technique is employed to conceal the corrupted block. Based on the simulation results obtained in this study, the performance of the proposed scheme is better than those of the five existing approaches for comparison. The proposed scheme can recover high-quality JPEG images from the corresponding corrupted images up to a block loss rate (BLR) of 30%. (C) 2005 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

This study exploits the characteristics of image blocks to develop an adaptive data hiding scheme that is based on SMVQ prediction. Since human beings' eyes are highly sensitive to smooth images, changes in smooth cause great distortion and attract the attention of interceptors. Hence, this study proposes a data embedding scheme for embedding secret data into edge blocks and non-sufficiently smooth blocks. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme improves the quality of the stego-image and the embedding capacity. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
