A simplified algorithm of Finite Set Model Predictive Control for Three-Phase CHB-Based BESSs

Cascaded H-bridge (CHB) topology receives wide attention in the battery energy storage systems (BESSs) due to its modular structure. When the finite-set model predictive control (FS-MPC) is applied to handle complex issues of the three-phase CHB-based BESSs, the problem of computation amount is emerging due to its traversal algorithm. In this article, a successive searching algorithm for the FS-model predictive control (MPC) is proposed to simplify the traversal subset. In the three-phase space-vector diagram, the proposed algorithm successively adjusts the searching direction to find the optimal voltage vector, according to the cost functions of the adjacent vector table. Moreover, the candidate vectors of the proposed algorithm are further modified by eliminating repeated vectors and unnecessary searching directions ultimately. The algorithm is readily applicable to the CHB-based BESSs and is also general to other multilevel converters. Theoretical analysis and experimental comparison demonstrate the proposal.

Induction or asynchronous AC motors are widely used in the electromechanical industries. However, the selection of an appropriate motor for specific drive applications represents a non-trivial task. The most effective and universally accepted method is to use equivalent T-circuit for this purpose. Parameter determination of equivalent circuit should be done relatively fast and accurately. This article describes a novel and simplified method for the estimation of equivalent circuit parameters, which is exclusively based on the manufacturer's datasheet. The proposed method is based on the synergetic interaction between the numerical and analytical dimensionless approach using the Thevenin theorem. Initially, rated motor parameters and unknown variables of the equivalent circuit are combined into dimensionless expressions using the Thevenin approach. This method is simple, original, and useful to prevent instability in the numerical solution. Importantly, the high convergence of a solution and relatively fast calculation of parameters reveals the significant novelty of the proposed method. This method provides accurate and sustainable results for a wide range of low voltage asynchronous motors with different rotational velocities, torque, and power range from a few to hundreds of kilowatts. The proposed method is validated by the application of three types of asynchronous AC motors.

A simplified algorithm for predicting creep settlement of high fills based on modified power law model

The calculation and prediction of creep settlement is an important basis for judging whether the settlement of high fills is stable and arranging subsequent construction. In this study, a modified power law model is established based on Hypothesis B and Bjerrum's classification of creep deformation. The modified model can uniformly describe the one-dimensional creep deformation of clay, sand and soil-rock mixture, and satisfies the requirement that the one-dimensional creep deformation tends to a constant value over time rather than increasing indefinitely. Then a simplified algorithm for predicting creep settlement is proposed based on the modified model. The simplified algorithm has only three parameters with explicit physical meaning, which are determined by settlement monitoring data. By the settlement monitoring data from high fills at Chengde Airport, Chengchi Expressway and Panzhihua South Railway Station, the fitting and predicted results of the simplified algorithm were compared with other three prediction algorithms commonly used in geotechnical engineering. The results show that the proposed simplified algorithm can predict the creep settlement of high fills more effectively and accurately.

This paper develops a simplified algorithm for evaluating the hydrodynamic performances of mobile offshore bases (MOBs) in the preliminary design stage based on the following reasonable assumptions: no navigational velocity exists, and marine environment loads only consider the random and irregular wave forces at high sea states. MOBs are a representative structural style for very large modular semi-submersible structures in deep-sea areas. simplified formulas for different parameters in the dynamic equations of MOBs are derived, including added mass, restoring force, and the constraint forces of connectors. The revised Morison equation is used to estimate the wave forces on MOBs because the components of MOBs can be treated as small-scale components by comparing them to the wavelengths at high sea states. During this process, the shielding effects of the interactions between multiple components of MOBs are considered to estimate the effects of wave diffraction and other fluid-structure interactions on the results of wave forces. A 3-module numerical MOB model at high sea states is considered as a case study. The hydrodynamic responses of the MOB modules are calculated under random and irregular wave conditions with different wave angles. The statistical results obtained using this simplified algorithm in the time domain exhibit close agreement with the results of experiments reported in the literature and obtained using the potential flow theory (PFT) method. Additionally, the relative errors among the 3 methods fall within the permitted range for practical engineering, which adequately validates the accuracy, feasibility and reliability of the methodologies developed in this paper. The statistical results of the hydrodynamic responses among 3 adjacent MOB modules under the same sea state are also compared. Here, a simplified algorithm to calculate log-likelihood ratio (LLR) for m-QAM demodulation is proposed. Traditional method calculating LLR for m-QAM demodulation is supposed to do distance computing between any two constellation points so that the high complexity of the hardware implementation is not acceptable. This simplified method is different from the traditional ways that the distance calculation between any two points in a plane can be omitted, indicating that there is an advantage in the amount of computation in this simplified method. Finally, the simplified method is compared with traditional methods from the perspective of complexity and system performance. The simulation results show that the simplified method can greatly reduce the amount of calculation and have little effect on the performance of the system.

3D-SVPWM algorithm is used for synthesizing the desired bridge output voltage and generating compensation currents to cancel the harmonics. In this paper, depict the detail step for calculate the command vector and duty cycle of each leg in three level 3-phase 4-wire shunt active power filter system. After induction, proposed a simplified 3D-SVPWM algorithm. Compare to the traditional 3D-SVPWM algorithm, the proposed SVPWM algorithm simplified the operation, and shorten calculating time. Simulation and experimental results validate the correctness and feasibility of proposed algorithm.

As an important component in Anchor Handling Simulator(AHS), the mooring system's modeling and simulation have great impact on the AHS's physical realism, behavioural realism and operating environment. We built the mooring line's dynamics model based on Lumped-Mass Method (LMM) and used 4th order Runge-Kutta to solve it;However, the huge amounts of calculation in the model's solving seriously hindered its application in AHS. To speed up the model's solving process and realize the real-time simulation, we analysed the variables' variation rates in the governing equation, identified the invariants, fast variables and slow variables, then proposed a novel simplified algorithm by adopting different time steps for their calculation. Experimental results show that, our simplified algorithm can reduce more than 64.5 % of the calculating time on the premise of assuring the accuracy and numerical stability.

The simplified algorithm for out-of-plane ultimate loadcarrying capacity of concrete-filled steel tubular( CFST) solid-rib arches under uniform vertical load was studied. The experimentally validated finite element model was developed. The out-of-plane equivalent length coefficients of solid-rib arches were obtained using out-of-plane elastic eigenvalue buckling analysis. Then the out-ofplane elastic stability coefficient was plotted against the normalized slenderness ratio,and the out-of-plane eigenvalue buckling load or elastic buckling capability of arches was calculated. Lastly effects of different parameters on the out-of-plane ultimate load-carrying capacity of CFST solid-rib arches were determined using geometric and material nonlinear finite element analysis, and a simplified algorithm was established by fitting the out-of-plane elastic-plastic stability coefficient and normalized slenderness ratio using PerryRobertson formula. Ratio of the elastic stability coefficient to the elastic-plastic counterpart was plotted against the out-of-plane normalized slenderness ratio,from which the out-of-plane elasticplastic ultimate load-carrying capacity was determined according to the corresponding elastic buckling load. Results show that the proposed simplified algorithm can accurately predict the out-of-plane eigenvalue buckling load and the elastic-plastic ultimate loadcarrying capacity of the CFST solid-rib arches.

A simplified space vector modulation (SVM) is proposed in order to realize that the SVM algorithm can be applied in modular multilevel converters (MMC) with more than five levels. First, the alpha and beta axes of the tradition coordinates alpha beta are stretched so that the space vectors lie on integer grids. Second, the adjacent space vectors are used to construct a square with offside length 2. Next, the region in the square where the reference vector is located is quickly located. Then, a reference vector is synthesized using three space vectors of the region based on the principle of volt-second equilibrium. Finally, a three-phase MMC system simulation model is built using Matlab/Simulink, and the effectiveness of the algorithm is verified through simulation comparison.
