A single-input multi-output Resonant Regulating Rectifier Generating Three outputs in a Half Cycle for Wirelessly Powered Biomedical Devices

This paper introduces single-input multi-output (SIMO) resonant regulating rectifier (R-3) designed to produce three regulated outputs in a half cycle without low drop-out (LDO) regulators. Utilizing distributed multi-phase control allows for the regulation of three outputs in a half cycle, leading to increased power delivered to the load (PDL), reduced output ripple, and a higher number of outputs. Additionally, the adoption of negative threshold gate driver (NTGD) and a hybrid high/low comparator (HCMP) enhances the output voltage regulation range and power conversion efficiency (PCE). To ensure the safe control of three distinct outputs in a half cycle, all three outputs are equipped with end protection techniques. Moreover, for a secure start-up of the secondary outputs, the proposed pre-biasing technique in the pulse width modulation (PWM) controller is implemented. The 1.54-mm(2) 0.25-mu m CMOS SIMO R-3 demonstrates the capability to generate three regulated outputs, with a maximum primary voltage and minimum secondary voltage difference of up to 3.5 V. Furthermore, a PCE of 90.82% is achieved with a total load power of 84.6 mW. These advancements position the SIMO R-3, especially with dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) stimulation, as a promising solution for efficient use in retinal prostheses.

This study presents sensitivity-based adaptive model-free adaptive displacement and velocity control algorithms for unknown single-input multi-output (SIMO) systems using recursive least squares (RLS) with exponential forgetting. Nonlinearities in real-world systems make predictions of the dynamic behaviors of systems challenging and have a negative influence on the performance of control systems. To address this problem, the sensitivity-based model-free adaptive control algorithm, which does not require a mathematical model of a system, is proposed in this study. In the algorithm, a feedback control law for a SIMO system was designed with multiple adaptive feedback gains. The virtual function that represents the relationship between multiple feedback gains and control errors was also designed to construct an adaptation rule with a linear combination. The coefficients in the virtual function were estimated in real-time using RLS with multiple exponential forgetting factors. By using the estimated coefficients, the adaptation rule for feedback gains with the gradient descent method was designed, which can be automatically adjusted through applying Lyapunov's direct method. The performance of the proposed model-free adaptive control algorithm was evaluated in an actual DC motor system under angular displacement and velocity tracking control scenarios. Evaluation results show that the designed control algorithm enables the system to track the desired output successfully without system modeling.

We propose a new data-driven method for a single-input multi-output dual-rate system, in which the sampling interval of plant outputs is an integer multiple of the holding interval of a control input. In the proposed method, the dual-rate system is converted to a multi-input multi-output single-rate system, and controller parameters are optimized using one-shot closed-loop data. Furthermore, the ripple-free condition is clarified. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is shown through a numerical example. (c) 2018 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. This paper presents an all-inclusive review and comparative analysis of single-input multi-output (SIMO) inverter topologies, with some suggestions on selection of suitable configurations for automotive applications. With the rising trend in the automotive industry towards full vehicle electrification and autonomous driving, X-by-wire (XBW) technologies play an integral role in this transition. XBW systems employ multiple electric motors/actuators to perform the various vehicular functions such as traction, braking, steering and suspension. As the number of electric motor drives in the vehicle increases, challenges and problems in terms of cost, space, reliability, control and energy management, arise. The SIMO inverter architecture for power inverters, with its reduced component count and centralized control, presents a promising solution.

This paper presents a novel single-input multi-output (SIMO) DC/DC converter with high voltage conversion ratio in both voltage step-up and step-down mode. The proposed converter guarantees strong independent control ability for different output voltage levels and by using the two-stage structure and series connected current-source-mode (CSM) converters. The first stage uses a voltage-source-mode (VSM) buck converter to perform voltage step-down and provide a tightly regulated stable current;whereas the second stage uses series connected CSM converters which are inherently independent of each other thus to perform voltage step-up with a simpler control scheme and avoid cross-regulation issue. Its performance is verified by simulation results.

The power take-off (PTO) gearbox is widely used for special vehicles, large construction machinery, industrial machinery and ships, to distribute the power of a single input shaft from an engine or a motor to several shafts or to collect several shafts by single shaft power (Torque x rotation speed). The super large hydraulic excavator is equipped with a power take-off (PTO) gearbox between the main engine and a number of pumps for the purpose of improving the fuel efficiency and improving the system efficiency. The power take-off (PTO) gearbox of a large hydraulic excavator with a body weight of 100 ton ( = 10(5) kg) is connected with two large hydraulic pumps and one small hydraulic pump on three output shafts and different axial loads are generated depending on the working characteristics of the excavator. In this paper, we evaluated the performance and durability of a power take-off (PTO) gearbox of a large hydraulic excavator with a 100-ton body weight. The test evaluation criteria for non-fault life time calculation, performance and accelerated life test were established, and the types and characteristics of acceleration test equipment were analyzed. The torque distribution with the use of the gear phase difference to maintain the gearbox output condition was investigated, and energy was saved by circulating experimental power while controlling speed and load with two electric dynamometers. We analyzed the life of the gearbox by analyzing the metal particles generated in the lubricating oil of the gearbox.

In underwater optical wireless communications (UOWC) the channel impulse response is essential in characterizing the link. In this paper we investigate the impulse response of the single input multiple output UOWC link using Monte Carlo simulation for different types of waters. We simulate the bit error rate (BER) performance for the proposed intensity modulation direct detection SIMO UOWC links for multiple receivers with a linear combining scheme by considering absorption, scattering, turbulence and all major noise sources. We show that, the clear, coastal and harbor waters display the best to the worth BER performance, respectively.

Visible light communication(VLC) shows great potential in Internet of Vehicle applications. A single-input multi-output VLC system for Vehicle to Everything is proposed and demonstrated. A commercial car headlight is used as transmitter. With a self-designed 2 × 2 positive-intrinsic-negative(PIN) array, four independent signals are received and equalized by deep-neural-network post-equalizers, respectively. Maximum-ratio combining brings high signal-to-noise ratio and data rate gain. The transmission data rate reaches 1.25 Gb/s at 1 m and exceeds 1 Gb/s at 4 m. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first-time demonstration of beyond 1 Gb/s employing a commercial car headlight.

LED-Based Underwater Wireless Optical Communication for Small Mobile Platforms: Experimental Channel Study in Highly-Turbid Lake Water

Underwater collaborative work between small mobile platforms (SMP) such as divers, litter submarine or AUV, requires a high data rate communication system which is compact, reliable, affordable and eye-safe. The high bandwidth of LED-based underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) is an advantage. Artificial, emulated as well as simulated, turbid underwater channel has been studied recently, but no practical nature water. To fully meet the requirements of challenging turbid underwater channel scenarios for SMP, we demonstrated a green LED-based UWOC system up to a bandwidth of 3.4 MHz in a highly-turbid nature lake water. Through a contrast wireless optical communication (WOC) experiment in air, turbid water channel is observed to compensates the receiving signal amplitude attenuates after propagating a longer attenuation length due to multiple-scattered light caused diffusion, and thus to be more like a single-input multi-output (SIMO) system. From our experimental observation, the SIMO channel model could be employed not only in turbulent UWOC, but also in highly turbid UWOC. Moreover, turbid water channel is observed a "frequency selection" effect, thus LED with lower threshold voltage at higher frequency would optimize bandwidth and link range, and a robust pre-code for interference cancellation would be a well-direct choice to constructing different UWOC system in highly turbid water for SMP. Our finding will provide a new reference complementing the current LED-based UWOC systems in realistic water environment.

A single independent voltage source (Vin or Vbat) is used to regulate the speed of an E-vehicle (EV) with the same interval of switching pulses to generate different voltage ratios by charging/discharging the flying capacitors using a novel single-input multi-output (SIMO) DC-DC switched capacitor converter. In this work, various speed transmissions are generated for controlling the speed of EVs. The selected and regulated battery voltage are generated using the SIMO DC-DC converter. The proposed converter is used to generate seven different transmission in total, of which four transmissions are used for motoring (forwarding operation) and the other three transmissions act as regenerative braking. For motoring operation, the battery, fuel cell, and photovoltaic cell are used as a sources of energy, and for the regenerative braking, the regenerated voltage is fed back to store the battery. The SIMO DC-DC converter is used to support electronic accessories, such as LED lights, the EV audio system and other accessories, including mobile and laptop battery charging. The energy recovered during regenerative braking is used to charge the battery via a proposed SIMO DC-DC converter for different speed transmissions. In addition, simulation, modeling, and analysis are used to validate the proposed system. It is intended for a fixed voltage of 12 V and output voltages ranging from 12 to 48 V. The PSIM simulation tool is used to validate the system. The validation demonstrates that the suggested converter shows good evidence for both braking and regenerative braking operations.
