In this paper, we analyze a bit error rate (BER) as well as outage probability in a free-space optical (FSO) link. Log-normal atmospheric turbulence with an effect of pointing errors (PE) is used to model the FSO channel. Binary phase shift keying based on subcarrier intensity modulation is employed. The BER degradation due to the effect of PE is improved by applying single-input multiple-output (SIMO) technique using maximal ratio combining. The outage probability and BER closed-form expressions are derived for all cases which are confirmed by integral expressions. The numerical results show that the BER can be improved by using SIMO technique. For instance, the BER is 1.884 x 10(-6) at 0 dBm transmitted power in the case of without using SIMO, while the BER become 3.223 x 10(-21) at 0 dBm in the caseof applying the SIMO technique.

This paper presents the design of the near-field wireless power transfer (WPT) system capable of charging two independent loads simultaneously. It is imperative to note that it becomes possible by developing single-input multiple -output WPT, i.e., a single transmitter (Tx) and two receivers (Rxs). The developed Tx and Rx resonators possess small areas of 30-by-30 sq. mm and 30-by-13 sq. mm, respectively. The concurrent powering is achieved by coupling Tx and two Rxs at 27 mm. As a consequence, the obtained measurement results demonstrate power transfer efficiencies of 50% and 25%.

Proportional fair scheduling (PFS) provides good balance between throughput and fairness via multi-user diversity and game-theoretic equilibrium. Very little analytical work exists on understanding the performance of PFS. Moreover, most researches on PFS are for cellular networks and typically use linear rate model or logarithm rate model to simplify the theoretical analysis of PFS. Since the linear rate model only applies to very small SINR, most researchers prefer the logarithm rate model in their study on PFS. While previous work which is based on the logarithm rate model provides good estimate of the PFS throughput in Rayleigh fading single-antenna cellular networks, they are not valid for multi-antenna wireless mesh networks. In this paper, PFS in multi-antenna wireless mesh networks under Rayleigh fading is discussed. Specifically, we assume that orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) and single-input multi-output (SIMO) techniques are used in the network. In addition, a new mathematical analysis of PFS that applies to both Rayleigh and Rician fading is presented. Simulations are conducted to verify our analytic results on PFS in the proposed mesh network. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first one investigating the PFS problem in multi-antenna mesh networks.

This paper presents an improvement for a bit error rate (BER) performance in a free-space optical communication system over log-normal fading channel and misalignment effect, by using single-input multiple-output (SIMO) technique with maximal ratio combining. Differential phase shift keying with subcarrier intensity modulation is applied. The BER closed-form expression is obtained and compared to integration numerically solution. The simulation results show that the BER performance is improved by using SIMO system.

This paper addresses optimum nondiagonal and diagonal amplifying relay matrices for the amplify-and-forward (AF) wireless relay networks. single-input multiple-output (SIMO) nondistributed and distributed relaying system strategies with the relay power constraint are applied, based on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) criterion. By adopting the optimum amplifying relay matrices derived, the SNRs at the destinations are analytically and numerically investigated in order to evaluate the proposed system. In particular, using the SNR values, it can be predicted which scheme would yield a better system performance than the others.

In this study, a high-efficiency single-input multiple-output (SIMO) step-down converter is designed. The coupled-inductor-based SIMO step-down converter utilizes two power switches with the properties of voltage clamping for the middle-voltage switch, and soft switching for all power switches due to the appropriately choice of the corresponding device specifications. As a result, the leakage inductor energy of the coupled inductor can be recycled, and the voltage spikes on power switches can be alleviated. Moreover, the switching losses can be significantly decreased because of all power switches with zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) features. Therefore, the objectives of high-efficiency power conversion, high step-down ratio, and various output voltage with different levels can be obtained. The effectiveness of the proposed SIMO step-down converter is verified by experimental results of a converter prototype in practical applications.

This paper presents and describes switched-capacitor DC-DC combination converters with a single input and multiple outputs, with step-down and step-up voltage ratios. The combination converters provide two or three different DC outputs (depending on the combination), with different conversion ratios. The main advantage of the proposed converters is the low number of components used in the combination (two-output configurations require two link capacitors, and three-output configurations require three link capacitors) and two complementary phase clocks, which may reduce size and manufacturing costs for many applications. The DC-DC combination converters are designed to be fully integrated, and were implemented in a 65nm CMOS technology. The analysis of the proposed configurations for different performance modes and load conditions is presented, and simulation results show that these combination converter topologies are suitable for multiple-output switched-capacitor DC-DC converters with multiple conversion ratios.

In this paper, a single-input multiple-output high-voltage charge pump integrated circuit (IC) for neural stimulation applications is presented. The proposed circuit, implemented using 0.18-mu m standard low-voltage CMOS process, reliably generates three high-voltage outputs of 12.8 V, 9.6 V, and 6.4 V from a single 2.8 V-input source while regulating the output with load current up to 1 mA. In addition, an input voltage modulated regulation scheme is employed for good efficiency and regulation performance. The designed IC, which includes three charge pump cores and regulation circuits, occupies 0.8 mm(2) of core die area.

Cephalopods can display variable body color/patterns upon environmental stimulation via bioelectricity-controlled muscle contraction/expansion of skin chromatophores. However, it remains challenging to produce artificial display analogs that exhibit reversible and rapid switching between multiple expected luminescent patterns, although such systems are very appealing for many practical uses (e.g., data encryption). Inspired by the bioelectromechanical display tactic of cephalopods, in this work, a conceptually new photomechanically modulated fluorescent system that enables on-demand display of fluorescent patterns via a cascading stimulation-mechanical movement-optical output conduction mechanism is presented. Specifically, this biomimetic system comprises a customizable hollow display panel and a bottom-tethered photothermally responsive fluorescent actuator. Under NIR light, the photomechanically bending movements of the fluorescent actuator will immediately cover the hollow window of the display panel and synchronously manifest as the display of fluorescent patterns. Owing to its desirable time- and light-power-dependent actuating behaviors, diverse fluorescent patterns/information can be dynamically and reversibly displayed by facilely controlling this single remote NIR signal. This bioinspired strategy is universal and promising for fabricating on-demand fluorescent display platforms that combine a wide choice of fluorophores, remote control with high spatial/temporal precision, and especially single-input multiple-output features.

This paper proposes the use of quasi-stationary aircraft and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) to improve the system performance in satellite-terrestrial laser communication downlink. single-input multiple-output (SIMO) technology is applied to the relay node of a quasi-stationary aircraft. The closed expression of the bit error rate (BER) of an RIS-assisted satellite quasi-stationary aircraft-terrestrial laser communication system (RIS-SHTLC) is derived under the M-distributed atmospheric turbulence model while considering the influence of atmospheric turbulence and pointing errors caused by RIS jitter. The effects of coherent binary frequency shift keying (CBFSK), coherent binary phase-shift keying (CBPSK), non-coherent binary frequency shift keying (NBFSK), and differential binary phase-shift keying (DBPSK) on the performance of an RIS-SHTLC system are simulated and analyzed under weak turbulence. The results show that the RIS-SHTLC system with CBPSK modulation has the best communication performance. Simultaneously, the relationships between the average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and BER of the RIS-SHTLC system under different RIS elements are simulated and analyzed, and compared with the traditional SHTLC system. In addition, the influence of the zenith angle, receiving aperture and divergence angle on the performance of the system is studied. Finally, Monte Carlo simulations are used to validate the analytical results.
