In the fields of computer vision and 3D modeling, Point cloud registration (PCR) plays a crucial role, involving the alignment of multiple point cloud datasets acquired from different perspectives or time points into a common reference coordinate system. It is vital in various applications such as 3D reconstruction, object recognition, and autonomous driving. However, the process of PCR often encounters challenges such as noise interference, partial overlap, and data loss, which significantly impact the accuracy and efficiency of registration. This paper addresses these challenges in PCR by proposing an algorithm that utilizes graph structures. The algorithm converts point clouds into mesh form, which avoids intersecting edges in space, and then filters and removes certain edges based on whether the curvature difference between two points exceeds a set threshold. This ensures that the remaining edges can effectively represent the local edges of the object, thus obtaining a graph representation of the point cloud. Subsequently, for the graphs corresponding to the two point clouds, an optimized graph algorithm is used to search for common subgraphs to determine the correspondence between points in the point clouds, achieving point cloud registration. Experimental results demonstrate that compared to other algorithms, our approach yields satisfactory performance.

Electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation of power grids with high-fidelity models of inverter-based resources (IBRs) is time-consuming and difficult to scale. The necessity for high-fidelity models of IBRs that incorporate the dynamics of individual inverters within IBRs has been showcased in recent studies. These studies focused on events with partial power reduction in each IBR during a transmission line fault in the power grid. These types of events have been documented in multiple North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) reports in the past decade. It is imperative then to find solutions to speed-up EMT simulations and scale the size of the region with IBRs studied in EMT simulations. In this paper, a combination of numerical simulation algorithms with high-performance computing techniques are employed in discretization and linear solvers employed in the proposed RE-INTEGRATE EMT simulation platform for power grid with IBRs. For ease of scalability, modular and object-oriented programming is used as these techniques are implemented. Additionally, automation software is developed to convert legacy software codes to the proposed RE-INTEGRATE EMT simulation platform. Thereafter, this platform is evaluated on multi-core central processing units (CPUs). Finally, scale-up tests are performed to showcase the scalability that is possible.

The article considers the problem of developing a solution for automating the process of visualizing indicators of the quality assessment of manufactured products at an industrial enterprise. The existing methods and tools for data visualization are considered, the architecture and main components of the proposed automation system are presented, and the advantages of the proposed solution compared to traditional approaches are discussed. A description of the process of creating a computer program designed to automate the processing of big data and their visualization is proposed. The structured data entering the program are metal quality indicators, which are obtained on the basis of processing reporting documentation from the enterprise information system. The features of software libraries and methods of working with them are described, and an algorithm for the software module is developed. Data visualization in the form of graphs is based on information about faulty products, presented as multidimensional data.

Video-pass-through (VPT) augmented reality (AR) enables greater field of view and fidelity compared to current optical-see-through AR technologies. However, the computational complexity of VPT AR has traditionally resulted in high latency, low resolution, and/or visual artifacts. Only recently have devices come on the market that successfully mitigate these drawbacks, such as the Varjo XR-3 and XR-4, the Apple Vision Pro, and the Meta Quest 3. We propose that low-latency VPT AR introduces several interesting 3D User Interface (3DUI) capabilities. In this position paper, we discuss one of these 3DUIs, namely stereo-correct digital magnification of the physical environment. Specifically, this paper presents a novel system for stereo-correct digital magnification of the physical environment using the Varjo XR-3 (but that can be generalized to other VPT AR systems). The digital magnification algorithm we propose enables stereoscopic magnification of physical objects in real time by utilizing the front-facing camera feeds of the VPT AR system, implemented entirely through software. In addition, we outline the challenges and limitations associated with the proposed system, discuss our current progress, and suggest potential future directions for the development of our proposed VPT AR digital magnification system.

GraphWalker is a widespread automated model-based testing tool that generates executable test cases from graph models of a system under test. GraphWalker implements only two random test generation algorithms and has no optimization-based algorithm, where an evaluation of its performance in test lengths and coverage remains an open question in the literature. In this work, we performed experiments on three realistic systems to evaluate redundancy, coverage, and length of GraphWalker test cases. The experimental results show that even the best GraphWalker test cases are highly redundant, limited in edge pair coverage, and need significantly longer test cases to increase edge pair coverage. Overall, we establish a baseline to compare future optimization-based algorithms with, while the amount of improvement and its impact are important research questions for the future.

Many researchers have turned to using a single-stage inverter because of its advantages, including low cost and simple control. The Single-Ended Primary-Inductor Converter (SEPIC) was selected, which was used in DC-DC circuits, and the switching operation was modified to be used in a DC-AC inverter. Three modules of SEPIC have been used. The connecting of the three modules by differential way eliminates any DC components and leaves only the AC components. The AC three phase (current /voltage) has been obtained by feeding the SEPIC switches with three sine modulation index shifting 120 degrees. The whole system is powered by PV panels, taking into account the choice of an efficient method to track the maximum power. The system has been validated by PSIM software.

Safety-critical systems refer to software systems whose operation can affect the safety of people and facilities used in the automotive industry, aerospace, and hospital health care systems. The high level of safety of software in the aforementioned fields has often drawn attention. ISO26262 has been issued for the automotive industry, which defines standards and procedures, including software level, software development standards, and software validation standards to ensure the high level of safety of software. In high-safety automotive software, a real-time safeguard requires the analysis of interrupt-driven programming. Such analysis presents a challenging and complex task because of the uncertainty of interrupts. In ISO26262, the formalized method is suggested to verify the process of software development. To achieve the verification goals defined in ISO26262, we use a formal method instead of traditional verification methods to analyze worst-case execution time. We analyze interrupt-driven programs from the perspective of timeliness and present the Interrupt Control Flow Graph (ICFG), which is used to describe the control flow of interrupt-driven programs. The execution of interrupts may largely increase the number of program states, potentially leading to state explosion, resulting in a sizable ICFG. To solve this problem, we propose an algorithm for reducing the size of ICFG. On the basis of the reduced ICFG, the worst-case execution path can be determined and thus be used to verify whether the program execution time exceeds the expected time and identify the execution path that may cause a timeout problem.

The paper proposes a high-dimensional aggregation algorithm for analyzing the objective function in multi-objective location, which is applied to solve the problem of locating new energy facilities. The algorithm consists of three steps: Firstly, all facilities within the area are defined as decision variables and their corresponding sub-objective functions are calculated. These decision variables and sub-objective functions are then projected onto facility points in a high-dimensional space, where each dimension corresponds to a sub-objective function value. The Euclidean distance between these high-dimensional facility points reflects the differences among different facilities in the multi-objective optimization environment. Secondly, an n-DFPS (n-dimensional facility point seasonal algorithm) is designed to find the Pareto point in this high-dimensional space by minimizing the sum of Euclidean distances between that point and all other high-dimensional facility points. The facilities are weighted based on their Euclidean distances from both the high-dimensional facility point and the high-dimensional Pareto median point. Finally, all facility points are projected onto weighted facility points on a two-dimensional plane according to their latitude, longitude, and weight information; 2-PGSA (2-dimensional facility point seasonal algorithm) is used to identify Steiner points on this plane as reasonable locations for new energy facilities. To validate its effectiveness, an industrial and commercial energy storage station location case study is conducted using simulation experiments comparing it with classical location algorithms; results demonstrate superiority of our proposed algorithm.

Students in ABET accredited engineering programs are required to complete a capstone project before graduation. A common challenge and one faced for industry supported projects at The University of Texas at Austin is optimizing the assignment of students to project teams based on each student’s skills and interests and each project’s overall skill requirements. Forming reasonable teams by hand can require several weeks of manual effort. This paper presents a user-friendly, flexible software application to address this challenge. It allows for rapid optimal or near-optimal team formation, evaluated based on a defined goodness of fit for individual teams and all teams collectively, addressing any number of specified student skills and interests and project requirements. The software application includes three major components: a straightforward user interface, a team allocation algorithm, and a goodness of fit measure for evaluating matches of students with projects. The software application accepts input CSV files and outputs a new CSV file that lists the teams, along with a user interface display of team quality measures. The system may be run locally, ensuring privacy standards, in addition to the option of web-based hosting if desired. The algorithm has an expected runtime of no longer than an hour on typical personal computers. The end objective is for capstone professors around the world to be able to utilize this open-source software to quickly and effectively manage their capstone project team formation, affording more time for project completion.
