The potential of calcium imaging in high-throughput drug screening experiments remains underutilized, primarily because of time-intensive manual identification of *** overcome these challenges, we propose to use deep learning enhanced watershed segmentation, wherein the complex morphology and the distinctions in the time courses are appropriately accounted through enhanced watershed and multi-frame processing respectively. Our segmentation pipeline involved training of two CNNs (modified U-Net and YOLOv5), one to predict distance transform and other to detect individual cells on the predicted distance transform images. The bounding boxes detected by the YOLO were continuously refined every n frames using an Intersection over Union (IoU) threshold. The centers of the final updated bounding boxes were then used to guide the watershed transform, which segmented the image into individual cells. The proposed method outperformed U-Net (pixel wise classification), CellPose (generalistic deep learning-based software) and 2D method (Med IP) with a significant improvement in segmentation accuracy.

Here, we present a general-purpose sensor array-based circuit and system design. Firstly, to reduce power consumption and suppress noises, we introduce strategies including multiple bias voltages, low-power self-wake-up mechanism, average-lag filtering and data packetization mechanisms. Then, we implement hardware-friendly algorithms: 1) for the novel strain sensor array, KNN algorithm affiliated with the threshold discrimination mechanism successfully recognizes ten kinds of gestures for deaf and mute person with an accuracy of 99.8%; 2) for the MEMS gas sensor array, combined with the adaptive mean-baseline calibration algorithm, we successfully compensate common problems of the drift.

Web applications provide essential and ubiquitous services across diverse application domains. Online reliability prediction forecasts the probability of a request being successfully processed within a given timeframe, providing valuable information for users and engineers. Many approaches have been proposed for software reliability modeling. However, conventional methods tend to rely heavily on historical data for assessing software reliability, often overlooking the dynamic nature of web applications and their implications for reliability *** paper introduces AdaRel, an online reliability prediction system designed to adapt to the dynamic behavior of web applications, thereby enhancing prediction accuracy. AdaRel employs a suite of prediction models and periodically evaluates and selects the best-performing model to forecast reliability for each observation period. Additionally, it monitors the system’s behavior and strategically mitigates the adverse impacts on prediction accuracy when detecting an *** three case studies, AdaRel’s predictive accuracy consistently surpassed that of the individual algorithms. The results confirm that AdaRel’s performance is robust and dependable, irrespective of the distinctive attributes of the web applications it assesses.

The Wireless-sensor-networks are the foundation of the Internet-of-Things, playing an important role in various applications such as ecosystem monitoring, health care, smart city, industrial automation and smart agriculture. In these networks, shortest-path-algorithms are crucial for optimizing data transmission, ensuring faster communication while minimizing energy consumption. This paper introduces a modification to the traditional Dijkstra algorithm by incorporating a cost function that accounts for both node energy levels and path length, balanced by a weighting factor. The proposed algorithm aims to distribute energy consumption more uniformly across the network, thereby extending its overall lifetime and enhancing the network's efficiency. For simulation purposes, the algorithm code was developed using the C programming language in Visual Studio Code. This approach offers a potential solution for optimizing routing and managing energy in wireless-sensor-networks.

The deployment problem in wireless sensor networks is considered as one of the most fundamental challenges. The research of sensor network node deployment technology has extremely important theoretical and practical value. When the target area has a non-uniform coverage requirement, the difficulty of deployment is increased. This paper focuses on the deployment of sensor nodes in a non-uniform target area. We proposed an improved algorithm CCRPSO, using cooperative coevolutionary framework with RPSO, and give time-varying nonlinear inertia weight and learning factors. The node deployment scheme is maximize the coverage rate and minimize the energy consumption. The experiment shows that the algorithm can effectively solve the optimization problem in wireless sensor network non-uniform deployment.

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) networks seek to address the challenges of secure communications in postquantum networks. QKD modules are used to ensure secure key rates (SKRs). Due to the generation process, there may be some fluctuations in the key creation rate. In order to decrease the impact of these fluctuations, buffers are used in each link, designated as quantum key pools (QKPs). These QKPs are periodically refilled. Link weights dependent on the QKP filling level are used to calculate the shortest path, applying Dijkstra's algorithm, for key routing. A software Defined Networking (SDN) architecture is considered. We consider the SKR fluctuations, and we study the impact on the routing performance of outdated QKP filling level information at the controller. Results will show that management traffic can be reduced without compromising the routing performance. However, reducing the frequency update of the link weights will have a negative impact on QKP filling level, but will reduce the controller processing load.

This study proposes a real-time parking space detection using a pixel-based image processing technique. The proposed algorithm detects free spaces in a busy parking place video stream. The performance of the algorithm is compared with CNN algorithm using YOLOv8 software. The detection rate of the developed algorithm is found to be 9% higher than the YOLOv8 classification model with 5 times less error rate. Also, the proposed system missed fewer objects and requires less memory space than the YOLOv8 model.

The paper uses a laser scanner sensor to present an object localisation method in 3D space. The authors used the Velodyne LIDAR sensor and Matlab software to execute the algorithm for position calculation. The article presents the results of experimental studies and the accuracy of identification of the instantaneous position during the object's movement. The accuracy was separately determined for translation, rotation, and simultaneous translation with rotation.

Acoustic metasurfaces (AMS) are ultra-thin meta-materials of sub-wavelength thickness, which are known for their non-conventional manipulation of sound waves. In this work, we study fundamental limits when an AMS is employed in dynamic underwater acoustic communication systems. In terms of channel capacity, we show that an AMS-assisted link outperforms the conventional single-link communication and achieves high data-rates over long ranges. We establish that the physical placement of AMS near either transmitter or receiver maximizes the received signal-to-noise-ratio. Further, we show that by choosing large enough number of meta-atoms, the AMS-assisted link outperforms a decode-and-forward relay network, in terms of capacity. For our simulations, we use BELLHOP ray-tracing software to obtain the beam information, and then incorporate the Hall-Novarini bubble cloud model, VirTEX platform motion and VirTEX sea surface motion algorithms to take ocean dynamics into consideration. Thus, utility of AMS paves the way for long-range underwater communication with enhanced data-rates.
