In this paper a global sensitivity analysis technique for testing impedance measurement algorithms is described. The technique is based on the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical method. Accuracy of impedance measurement algorithms, when influenced by uncertainties, can be systematically analyzed. This technique divides variance of a measurement algorithm output into components related to uncertain parameters (factors) and interactions between factors. As an application example, we simulate transmission line faults with varying values of fault parameters (factors) according to the Sobol's quasi-random sampling. The algorithm for automating this task was developed via DIgSILENT Programming Language (DPL). The SIMLAB software is used for generating samples in a factor space according to the Sobol's quasi-Monte Carlo technique.

The following work presents the development of a vehicle positioning function using vehicle mounted lidar sensors of the type Ouster OS1-32 and retroreflective landmarks. The function is developed for the use case of a wheeled mobile driving simulator, which is a mobile robot performing driving maneuvers within a virtually limited circular workspace. Nevertheless, the function is transferable to other applications where a vehicle's dynamic position on a limitable area is to be determined with high dependability and independently of random environmental features. Based on the specific requirements for the simulator operation, a suitable architecture of landmarks, consisting of retroreflective cylinders, is derived. Then, the software architecture is presented, which mainly relies on a map matching algorithm. In comparison with a DGPS reference system and under artificial perturbation of the lidar-landmark-interaction, the performance and robustness of the function is evaluated on a real prototype. The results show high potential of the developed function for a safety relevant positioning of the vehicle.

The assessment of students' academic performance based on ongoing records plays a vital role in enabling timely interventions for successful graduation. Variances in degree program completion times emphasize the need to tailor subjects and courses to individual student requirements. However, limited research exists on student degree completion, presenting challenges related to diverse student backgrounds, information gaps in courses, and accommodating evolving progress in predictions. Educational institutions are adapting flexible curricula, necessitating a diverse range of courses and informed decision-making for academic planning. Structured course sequences in universities ensure a gradual buildup of knowledge and skills, aiding students in tackling more complex subjects progressively. A decision-based recommendation system for predicting graduation time was developed and evaluated using the ISO/IEC 25010 software Quality Model. This model included parameters like functionality, performance, compatibility, usability, reliability, security, maintainability, and portability. Each parameter was assessed to ensure the system's functionality, performance optimization, cross-platform compatibility, user-friendliness, reliability, security, ease of maintenance, and adaptability to different environments. Through this evaluation, the system's quality and efficacy were comprehensively validated, confirming its ability to achieve intended objectives and meet user requirements.

This paper consists of a tutorial on the Augmented Lagrangian based Alternating Direction Inexact Newton method (ALADIN) and its application to distributed model predictive control (MPC). The focus is-for simplicity of presentation-on convex quadratic programming (QP) formulations of MPC. It is explained how ALADIN can be used to synthesize sparse QP solvers for large-scale linear-quadratic optimal control by combining ideas from augmented Lagrangian methods, sequential quadratic programming, as well as barrier or interior point methods. The highlight of this tutorial is a real-time ALADIN variant that can be implemented with a few lines of code yet arriving at a sparse QP solver that can compete with mature open-source and commercial QP solvers in terms of both run-time as well as numerical accuracy. It is discussed why this observation could have far reaching consequences on the future of algorithm and software development in the field of large-scale optimization and MPC.

E-health is becoming more and more a reality, thanks to the increase of IoT health devices and to the availability of new technologies, algorithms and software, such as Semantics, Machine and Deep Learning. Systems are being developed to support doctors in making diagnoses, starting from data collected from sensors directly connected to the patients. This paper describes the preliminary steps towards the realisation of a platform for specialised doctors, capable of supporting diagnosis, by analysing the patients' symptoms, seen as an input to the system, and to recognise the possible diseases. In particular, we start by analysing semantic technologies as a means to describe sensors' outputs and to define rules that determine the diagnosis. To this end it is necessary to create or identify a support ontology used to describe the patients' symptoms, and then to define rules to identify the correct disease, in order to build a rule based expert system. In particular, this paper focuses on the identification and eventual modifications applied to existing disease ontologies.

In this study, potential usage of 5G networks for cloud assisted connected and autonomous mobility solution is demonstrated with preliminary field tests of Autonomous Truck Routing use case in H2020-ICT18 5G-MOBIX project. The preliminary tests are performed at Ford Otosan test track in Eskisehir, Turkey. The SAFIR cloud server developed by TUBITAK BILGEM is used over 5G network. The 5G-MOBIX Autonomous Truck Routing system architecture is composed of an autonomous truck, cloud and smart infrastructure having three road side units with LIDAR sensors. Navigation software stack is operated on cloud according to data received from autonomous truck and road side units. On-board unit performs required data transmission between cloud and truck. Motion control algorithms are executed to follow reference way points with a rapid prototyping controller in autonomous truck. Feasibility of the proposed connected and automated mobility system architecture is verified.

The progress in developing quantum hardware with functional quantum processors integrating tens of noisy qubits, together with the availability of near-term quantum algorithms has led to the release of the first quantum computers. These quantum computing systems already integrate different software and hardware components of the so-called "full-stack", bridging quantum applications to quantum devices. In this paper, we will provide an overview on current full-stack quantum computing systems. We will emphasize the need for tight co-design among adjacent layers as well as vertical cross-layer design to extract the most from noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) processors which are both error-prone and severely constrained in resources. As an example of co-design, we will focus on the development of hardware-aware and algorithm-driven compilation techniques.

RIA-CSM2: A Real-Time Impact-Aware Correlative Scan Matching Algorithm Using Heterogeneous Multicore SoC for Low-Cost Wheeled Robots

As a classic scan-to-map matching method, the correlative scan matching (CSM) algorithm may not be applicable if low-cost wheeled robots (like robot cleaners) are impacted. The first open issue is heavy dependence on trustworthy initial poses. Side slips caused by impacts are unobservable for rotary encoders mounted on wheels, leading to huge localization errors. The second open issue is the efficient processing of global localization using the CSM algorithm, which is essential for impacted robots. The state-of-the-art hardware designs for large-scale multiresolution CSM have low energy efficiency. These two open issues are properly addressed in this work, namely, RIA-CSM2. Based on lightweight deep neural networks, we perform reliable impact detection in unforeseen environments using only low-cost proprioceptive sensors. To bind the rapid error growth of conventional wheel-aided inertial navigation systems (INSs), delayed out-of-sequence measurements from CSM algorithms are integrated into an extended Kalman filter (EKF). The lightweight impact detection networks and INS are generally applicable for most embedded robotic systems with stringent energy, computing, and memory cost limitations. Once impacts are detected, large-scale multiresolution CSM algorithms will be performed on an energy-efficient hardware accelerator. Extensive experiments based on public datasets show that our work achieves high real-time performance and energy efficiency. The frame rate of local-scale high-resolution CSM can reach up to 96.42 frames/s. Field experiments on wheeled robot platforms demonstrate the effectiveness of our impact detection network, which outperforms our preliminary work in precision and false-alarm rate by a significant margin, with precision and recall rates reaching 100% and 97.8%, respectively. The presented impact detection datasets are now publicly available.

Sniffing attack is one of the typical passive network attack methods, which poses a serious threat to network communication security. Detecting and defending against sniffing attacks is challenging due to their stealthy nature. In this paper, we propose an encryption hopping method based on a programmable data plane named AP-EH to defend against sniffing attacks. By leveraging the concept of Moving Target Defense (MTD), AP-EH greatly elevates the complexity and cost for attackers to crack the communication data by dynamically modifying the encryption algorithm and key. Experimental results and analysis demonstrate the security and performance of the proposed method.

Intelligent Optimization for a Full-Sized PDC Bit with Composite Percussive Rock Breaking Drilling

Intelligent drilling has obtained a lot of attention in mining engineering, oil and gas production, and tunnelling engineering. The optimization of drilling parameters is one of the most important technologies of intelligent drilling while determining the key values to improve the drilling efficiency is still a difficulty. In this paper, we established a composite percussive rock breaking model of a full-size polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) bit based on the continuous-discontinuous element method (CDEM). The evolution of rock fragmentation under the action of composite impact is analysed by the rock breaking volume and the torque applied on the drill bit during drilling. Based on actual construction, two key parameters, axial impact velocity and impact frequency, affecting the process of composite impact rock breaking were selected, to further investigate their effect on composite impact rock breaking. The fitting curves obtained from the sensitivity analysis of the rock breaking effect under different construction parameters were proposed to guide the intelligent drilling. Furthermore, the construction parameters of a diversion inclined shaft in the #2 construction branch hole of Tiantai Mountain pumped storage power station in Zhejiang Province were collected, which provides validation data for the proposed optimizing theory of the drilling parameters.
