Cantor: A Novel Dynamic source-grid-load-storage Dispatching Model for Multiple Objectives in a Regional-Level Power System

The alignment of the real-time power supply-demand side becomes a crucial issue in the regional-level power system due to the growing complexity of source-grid-load-storage scenarios. However, traditional dispatching schemes with inflexible time points are hardly adaptive to the unpredictability of renewable energy generation and multiple-type load demands. To address this issue, we propose Cantor, a novel dynamic source-gird-load-storage dispatching model for multiple objectives in a regional-level power system. Cantor incorporates two techniques: (1) An identification algorithm of dispatching time points (IDTP) is designed to satisfy the requirement of power supply-demand alignment dynamically. (2) The latest Twin Delayed Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient decision algorithm is improved to calculate optimal dispatching results in different IDTPs. Furthermore, our case studies highlight Cantor's effective adaptation to complex scenarios in a regional-level power system dispatching, outperforming state-of-the-art models in power supply reliability, environmental protection, and economic costs, as well as model-solving efficiency. The coupling between modern electric power physical and cyber systems is deepening. An increasing number of users are gradually participating in power operation and control, engaging in bidirectional interactions with the grid. The evolving new power system is transforming into a highly intelligent socio-cyber-physical system, featuring increasingly intricate and expansive architectures. Demands for stable system operation are becoming more specific and rigorous. The new power system confronts significant challenges in areas like planning, dispatching, and operational maintenance. Hence, this paper aims to comprehensively explore potential synergies among various power system components from multiple viewpoints. It analyzes numerous core elements and key technologies to fully unlock the efficiency of this coupling. Our objective is to establish a solid theoretical foundation and practical strategies for the precise implementation of integrated planning and operation dispatching of source-grid-load-storage systems. Based on this, the paper first delves into the theoretical concepts of source, grid, load, and storage, comprehensively exploring new developments and emerging changes in each domain within the new power system context. Secondly, it summarizes pivotal technologies such as data acquisition, collaborative planning, and security measures, while presenting reasonable prospects for their future advancement. Finally, the paper extensively discusses the immense value and potential applications of the integrated planning and operation dispatching concept in source-grid-load-storage systems. This includes its assistance in regards to large-scale engineering projects such as extreme disaster management, facilitating green energy development in desertification regions, and promoting the construction of zero-carbon parks.

Collaborative optimization strategy of source-grid-load-storage considering dynamic time series complementarity of multiple storages

The multi-scale flexibility coordination of multiple storages is a key technology to enhance the diversified regulation ability of the power system. This paper first considers the interaction mechanism of multi-type storage peak regulation time sequences based on the Euclidian distance, dynamic time warping distance, and storage correlation distance. A matching index was proposed to consider the temporal correlation, overall distribution characteristics, and dynamic characteristics of the net load and energy storage. The multitype storage coordination mode, including battery storage, pumped storage, and electric vehicles, was formulated, and a collaborative optimal scheduling system architecture of source-grid-load-storage (SGLS) was constructed. To attain a low-carbon economy, a collaborative optimal scheduling model of SGLS considering the dynamic time-series complementarity of multiple energy storage systems was constructed. The Nash equilibrium theory was used to achieve friendly interaction among the source, grid, load, and storage. Then, an improved transfer reinforcement learning algorithm for SGLS was proposed, which used reinforcement learning and transfer learning algorithms combined with K-means clustering and dual-structure experience pool technology. The test results of actual regional power grid data indicated that the proposed strategy can effectively reduce the economic and carbon treatment costs of the system and improve the absorption capacity of renewable energy.

High proportion of new energy access will be one of the important directions of future power system development. In order to cope with the uncertainty caused by high proportion of new energy and improve the regulation ability of power system, resource planning should be carried out on each side of source-grid-load-storage. On this basis, for different planning schemes, a comprehensive evaluation system is urgently needed to comprehensively evaluate the planning schemes. Aiming at the economy, environmental protection, flexibility, adequacy and other indicators of power system planning, this paper proposes a multi-dimensional comprehensive rating system for power system. The improved IEEE-24 node system is used to verify the evaluation system.

In the new power system, the load is characterized by weak rigidity and flexible supply. With the integration of large-scale renewable energy into local power grids, the flexible supply and demand distribution in different regions of provincial power grids is uneven. Fully tapping and releasing flexibility for regional mutual assistance can reduce the flexibility planning cost of source grid load storage and the carbon emission cost of the system. The paper establishes a double-Layer planning model of source grid load storage considering regional flexibility mutual assistance under the carbon reduction target. Firstly, based on optimization theory, a regulation potential evaluation model is established for demand-side flexibility resources such as temperature-controlled loads, electric vehicles, data centers, and 5G base stations. Then, aiming at minimizing the cost of power grid planning and carbon emissions, considering the constraints of power grid operation and flexibility mutual assistance among regions, the decision variables of source grid load storage capacity are integrated into production simulation. A collaborative planning model of source grid load storage considering the partitioning and mutual assistance of flexibility resources is established, and a linearized transformation solution method is proposed. Finally, simulation analysis is conducted using the actual provincial partitioned power grid planning data for 2025. The results show that the proposed method can effectively balance the flexibility among regions and reduce the carbon emission cost of the system.

The article proposed a multi-timescale simulation platform tailored for the coordinated operation of source, grid, load, and storage in intelligent distribution networks, and proposes an optimized dispatching strategy. This strategy encompasses models for Electric Vehicles (EVs) participating in dispatching, as well as a classification of flexible loads, adapting to various timescales. By means of cost-minimizing dispatch on the day-ahead timescale, rolling optimization corrections on the intra-day scale, and fine-tuning of output deviations in real-time, the strategy enhances both the economic efficiency of the distribution network and the integration rate of Distributed Generation (DG). The multi-timescale scheduling model effectively reduces electricity purchase costs by over 20%. © 2024 IEEE.

With the rapid development of renewable energy technologies, the proportion of renewables in the power system is increasing. The traditional grid dispatch mode of "source follows load" is not applicable to the new power system. This paper proposes a source-grid-load-storage model and constructs a collaborative system that integrates source, grid, load, and storage. Through a variety of optimization methods, system tools, and information interaction methods, this system can fully leverage the adjustability of the power generation side and the load side, ensuring an accurate match between the supply sides and demand sides. Additionally, it can ensure the safe and stable operation of the power system, achieve optimal resource allocation, and enhance the consumption capacity of clean energy.

Under the new power system, the traditional source-follow-load model has changed. With the access of high penetration of renewable energy, more flexible resources need to be explored from the source-side grid side and load side to increase the consumption of renewable energy. Therefore, the optimization of 'source-grid-load-storage (SGLS)' interaction is a hot topic of current research. Because of the different interests belonging to different parties and their willingness to participate, the adoption of a centralized algorithm cannot coordinate the interests of all parties well. The state based potential game (SPG) method can coordinate the consistency of individual interests and subject interests, and has higher solution accuracy and solution efficiency compared with the general potential game (PG). Therefore, this article designs the SGLS interaction optimization model as a SPG problem, solves it using a distributed algorithm, and verifies the effectiveness of the proposed method through simulation.

Interaction Scenarios Considering source-grid-load-storage for Distribution Network with Multiple Subjects and Intelligent Transportation Systems

With the spread of electric vehicles (EVs), the EV load will have a significant impact on the planning and operation of the grid and the operation of the electricity market. Due to the charging and discharging characteristics of EVs, as well as their randomness and dispersion, it is feasible and challenging to introduce EV loads into the grid as a means of frequency regulation and peak shaving of the power system. In this paper, considering multi-subject distribution networks and the interaction of source-grid-load-storage with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), a density peak clustering (DPC) algorithm based on principal component analysis is employed to analyze the spatial and temporal characteristics of EV loads and identify the access status of EV charging stations and EV load status in each region in real time, as well as analyze the adjustable capacity and adjustable range of EV loads. Based on the adjustable capacity of the EV load, the optimization objectives include the maximum regulation of the EV load and the most economical operation cost. An accurate load regulation strategy based on automatic active control (APC) is proposed to reduce the maximum frequency deviation by 25% by integrating the load regulation of electric vehicles into the original AGC frequency regulation. At the same time, the feasibility of electric vehicles in peaking and standby scenarios is studied and verified through simulation cases, which can reduce the peak value of thermal power generation by 15% and 10% in the morning and evening.
