This letter studies the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the secrecy diversity order of Alamouti STBC with decision feedback (DF) detection over the time -selective fading channels. For given temporal correlations, we have derived the exact SOPs and their asymptotic approximations for all possible combinations of detection schemes including joint maximum likehood (JML), zero -forcing (ZF), and DF at Bob and Eve. We reveal that the SOP is mainly influenced by the detection scheme of the legitimate receiver rather than eavesdropper and the achievable secrecy diversity order converges to two and one for JML only at Bob (i.e., JML-JML / ZF / DF) and for the other cases (i.e., ZFJML / ZF / DF, DF-JML / ZF / DF), respectively. Here, p - q combination pair indicates that Bob and Eve adopt the detection method p E {JML , ZF , DF} and q E {JML , ZF , DF}, respectively.

We introduce the concept of space-time Super-Modulation according to which additional low rate and highly reliable information can be transmitted by further super-modulating blocks of traditionally modulated and space-time encoded information. This is achieved by exploiting the redundant information introduced by the space-time block codes and, specifically, by efficiently mapping transmission patterns to specific information content. It is shown that space-time Super-Modulation can be efficiently used in the context of machine-type communications to enable joint medium access and rateless data transmission while minimizing or even eliminating the need for transmitting preamble sequences. Compared with traditional approaches that use encoded preambles or preambles based on Zadoff-Chu sequences to transmit the signature information of transmitted packets, space-time Super-Modulation can achieve throughput gains of more than 35% when transmitting blocks of 200 symbols.

This paper investigates the subcarrier and power allocation problem of multi-user space-time block coded OFDM systems with each subcarrier shared by two users. The objective is to maximize the total system capacity subject to the power and proportional rate constraints of each user. A low-complexity suboptimal algorithm that separates subcarrier allocation and power allocation is proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed resource allocation algorithm for space-time block coded OFDM can improve the capacity significantly with the same BER performance compared with static FDMA fixed allocation algorithm and the MIMO-OFDMA scheme in which each subcarrier is used only by one user. Furthermore, the more important point is that it can make the capacity be distributed more fairly, very close to the ideal rate constraints, among users than the scheme which maximizes the system capacity only.

By combining adaptive modulation (AM) and automatic repeat request (ARQ), a cross-layer design (CLD) scheme for MIMO system with space-time block coding (STBC) and imperfect channel state information (CSI) is presented in this paper, and the effect of the imperfect CSI on the system performance is investigated. Based on the imperfect CSI, the probability density function of the effective signal to noise ratio (SNR) is derived, and the fading gain switching thresholds subject to a target packet loss rate and fixed power constraint are also derived. According to these results, closed-form expressions of the average spectrum efficiency (SE) and packet error rate (PER) of the system are further derived, respectively. These derived expressions include some existing expressions with perfect CSI as special cases, and can provide good performance evaluation for the CLD system with imperfect CSI. Numerical results verify the validity of the theoretical analysis. The results show that the SE and PER of the system with imperfect CSI are worse than those with perfect CSI due to the estimation error, but their performance difference will be reduced as estimation accuracy increases.

Multiple-antenna systems that operate at high rates require simple yet effective space-time transmission ***-ear dispersion （LD） codes transmits substreams of data in linear combinations over space and *** traditionally LD codes are mainly designed to optimize the mutual infor-mation which cannot guarantee good error *** contrast,using the simulation-based optimization method can minimize the block error rate （BLER）,but failed to optimize the channel capacity to the fullest *** this paper,a new design algorithm will be presented which would achieve both lower BLER and higher capacity by adding some extra quali-fications in the simulation *** results show that the proposed method has a better performance over a large range of SNRs than the earlier proposed methods.

Many generalized fading distributions are given in terms of special functions, complicating the analysis of wireless performance metrics. This paper presents novel approximations to the extended incomplete gamma function, the modified Bessel function of the second type, and the generalized Q-function. New simpler and unified form for the probability density function of the extended generalized-K (EGK) and M-N distributions is developed, avoiding complicated and computationally-expensive functions, e.g. Fox and Meijer-G. Based on the new unified PDF and the proposed approximations, we derive novel generic and unified expressions for the average bit error rate and average channel capacity for the recently introduced six most generalized fading channels, namely the EGK, the M-N, the a-η-μ, a-λ-μ, a-κ-μ, and a-λ-η-μ, including the generalized-K, generalized Nakagami-m, the a-μ, the η-μ, the λ-μ, the κ-μ, the Nakagami-Lognormal, the Weibull, the Rice, the Hoyt, the Maxwell and other fading scenarios as special cases. The Additive White Generalized Gaussian Noise (AWGGN) is considered as the noise model, that includes the AWGN, the Laplacian, the Gamma and the impulsive noise as special cases, being an application to the generalized Q-function approximation. Moreover, novel analysis for space-time block Codes in generalized-K fading is also developed as an application to the developed approximation of the modified Bessel function. The derived expressions are very simple and analytically traceable. Monte Carlo simulation and published work corroborate our obtained results.

In this paper, a simple downlink transmit scheme joint beamforming (BF) with space-time block coding (STBC) is proposed for cooperative base stations (BS). By deriving the equivalent signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the receiver, we first obtain the optimal BF weight vectors and the allocated power coefficients in terms of maximizing the statistical mutual information. Then, based on the moment generation function (MGF) approach and Gauss-Chebyshev numerical quadrature, we present a method to evaluate the average symbol error rate (SER) of the system with the new scheme. Finally, computer simulation results demonstrate the validity of the performance analysis and the superiority of the proposed transmit scheme.

In this paper, the bit error rate (BER) performance of multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems over Rayleigh fading channels is studied, and corresponding asymptotic performance is analyzed. Based on the asymptotic analysis at high signal to noise ratio (SNR), using the probability density functions (PDF) of the instantaneous channel power gain, the diversity gain and coding gain of the system with transmit antenna selection (TAS) scheme and space-time block coding (STBC) scheme are derived, respectively. As a result, the same full diversity gain is achieved for two transmission schemes, but their coding gains are different. With the obtained diversity gain and coding gain, the asymptotic BER expressions for two transmission schemes are respectively derived, which are in good agreement with the corresponding simulation results. The results show that the multiuser MIMO system with TAS scheme has better BER performance than that with STBC scheme due to higher coding gain.

In this paper, we present an efficient turbo-coded space time block coding (STBC) schemes in block fading channels. It has been reported that proper utilization of soft decision information is one of the important factors affecting the performance of turbo codes. If a STBC scheme is used with turbo codes, the output of the STBC decoder must be fed into a turbo code decoder in the form of soft decision information. In addition, the performance of a turbo code is subject to how much diverse channel information a decoder can utilize in a codeword. In this paper we evaluate the performance of turbocoded STBC schemes over block fading channels, and present an efficient STBC scheme with very simple maximum likelihood detection capability.

space-time block coding (STBC) achieves the maximum diversity gain of a flat fading multiple input multiple output (MIMO) transmission link. For frequency selective fading, only a few receivers can be found in the literature. These are mainly trained and block based, such as time reversal STBC (TRSTBC). A non-block based blind receiver for STBC over dispersive channels has been derived previously, adding a new term to the cost function of the constant modulus algorithm to orthogonalise the outputs. In this paper a decision directed (DD) equalizer is used concurrently with the CMA receiver to achieve faster convergence. Simulation results demonstrate the benefit of the proposed approach in terms of convergence speed and bit error ratio in a doubly-dispersive scenario.
