In this paper, the idea of space-time coding proposed for multiple-antenna system is applied to cooperative diversity wireless network. The pair error probability of the proposed scheme is analyzed and compared with the multiple antenna system. In the condition that the total transmit power is constant, the several power allocation schemes between the source and the relay nodes are given. The result indicates that wireless networks with R cooperative partners can achieve the same diversity as multiple antenna systems with R transmit antennas at asymptotically high transmit power when space-time codes are used distributive among the R cooperative partners.

Motivated by the space-time diversity transmission technique in wireless communications, a novel probabilistic quantum relay communication scheme in the quantum noisy channel is proposed in order to maximize the correct information transmission and the range of quantum communication, in which quantum signal sequences that carrying two-particle entangled states are transmitted from two senders to two relays and then retransmitted to the receiver after space-time encoded by relays. The quantum signal states can be restored via filtering out the channel noise with two-dimensional Bell measurements by the receiver. Analysis and discussions indicate that our scheme can increase and approximately double the range of quantum communication while not to reduce too much quantum signal-to-noise ratio, and meanwhile the security can be guaranteed under strongest collective attacks and LOCC attacks.

The potential promised by multiple transmit antennas has raised considerable interest in space-time coding for wireless communications. In this paper, we propose a systematic approach for designing space-time trellis codes over flat fading channels with full antenna diversity and good coding advantage. It is suitable for an arbitrary number of transmit antennas with arbitrary signal constellations. The key to this approach is to separate the traditional space-time trellis code design into two parts. It first encodes the information symbols using a one-dimensional (M, 1) nonbinary block code, with M being the number of transmit antennas, and then transmits the coded symbols diagonally across the space-time grid. We show that regardless of channel time-selectivity, this new, class, of space-time codes always achieves a transmit diversity of order M with a minimum number of trellis states and a coding advantage equal to the minimum product distance of the employed block code. Traditional delay diversity codes can be viewed as a special case of this coding scheme in which the repetition block code is employed. To maximize the coding advantage, we introduce an optimal construction of the nonbinary block code for a given modulation scheme. In particular, an efficient suboptimal solution for multilevel phase-shift-keying (PSK) modulation is proposed Some code examples with 2-6 bits/s/Hz and two to six transmit antennas are provided, and they demonstrate excellent performance via computer simulations. Although it is proposed for flat fading channels, this coding scheme can be easily extended to frequency-selective fading channels.

Unitary space-time code is ideally suited for rapid fading scenarios as it can operate well without channel state information (CSI), which is of vital significance for improving the effectivity and reliability of wireless communication systems. Pair-wise error probability (PEP) is an important factor for studying the reliability of a communication system. However, the existing scheme only gives the final result of PEP and the corresponding Chernoff upper bound (CUB) is obtained through magnification, which is not of universal significance for this kind of problems. In this paper, we employ the log-likelihood ratio of probability density functions of the received signals conditioned on the two possibly transmitted signals and by virtue of moment generating function we give the details in deriving the final precise residue expression for PEP and its CUB. At last, we verify the above results by simulations.

The authors in this article investigated how to cancel multi-user interference with low feedback amount over 3-user multiple input multiple output (MIMO) interference channel using space-time code and precoders. space-time block code with coding rate 2 was designed, also zero vectors were introduced into each codeword. The multi-user interference is mitigated by pre-coding at the transmitters and nonlinear operation and unidirectional cooperation link at the receivers. Compared with the existing scheme for the same scene, the proposed scheme greatly reduces feedback amount and improves the sum degrees of freedom (DOF). Simulation demonstrates the validity of the proposed scheme.

We investigate how to cancel interference by using spacetimecode and codeword space alignment for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Y channel consisting of three users and a relay. All the nodes adopt Alamouti code. During the multiple access (MA) stage, two codewords within each reciprocal codeword pair are aligned through pre-coding. The relay decodes the elements of each codeword pair using the orthogonal property of effective channel matrix of Alamouti codeword. During the broadcast (BC) stage, the interference between codeword pairs at each user is eliminated by the orthogonal property of effective channel matrix of Alamouti codeword, instead of the interference alignment (IA) pre-coding. Thus, channel state information (CSI) is not required during the BC stage, which greatly reduce the amount of feedback.

A novel single-carrier-based space-time code design to exploit the advantages of frequency-selective channel is proposed in this paper. The new design is based on multiplexing independent streams of space-time codes in a time-interleaved fashion followed by symbol-wise phase rotations. The advantage of such design is that it guarantees full space-time-multipath diversity by using the traditional space-time codes originally designed for flat fading channels as the constituent codes. Another advantage is that this approach incurs no loss in bandwidth-efficiency and it alleviates the problem of high PAPR in OFDM-based space-time code. The design is potentially suitable for any number of transmit antennas or multipaths. The simulations results indicate that full space-time-multipath diversity is attained using this new approach, and comparisons with some existing space-time codes designed for frequency-selective channel are made to show its performance advantage.

In this paper, a new criterion of space-time code(STC) for fast fading channels is proposed minimizing the first-event error probability based on the probabilities of first-event errors with different lengths. Some new QPSK STCs are designed according to the new criterion. Simulation results show that these codes outperform the existing codes. This criterion can be suitably applied to more complex codes as well.
