sparse code multiple access (SCMA) is a promising multiple access technology candidate for 5G wireless communication systems. The high detection complexity is its bottleneck. Stochastic computation is an ultra-low complexity digital signal processing technique in which probabilities are represented and processed with streams of random bits. In this paper, we propose a novel low complexity stochastic iterative detection approach for SCMA detection based on stochastic computation. We refer it as stochastic SCMA detector. Analysis and simulation results show that the proposed stochastic SCMA detector has only 36% hardware complexity compared to previous state-of-the-art soft input soft output (SISO) SCMA detector with satisfied BER performance.

sparse code multiple access system with multiple antennas offers unprecedented massive connectivity and capacity. To reduce the interference in a downlink multiple user SCMA (MU-SCMA) system, we propose a layer-aware interference mitigation scheme (L-AIMS). Firstly, preprocess the codewords of paired users to mitigate the intra-layer interference. Secondly, adopt the generalized singular value decomposition to mitigate the inter-user interference. Then, we obtain the adjusted rate of paired users with L-AIMS. The simulation results show that the proposed L-AIMS can improve the sum rate of paired users and the adjusted rate of the user with bad channel condition compared with the original scheme.

As the mobile communications develop rapidly, ever higher spectral efficiency is required. The sparse code multiple access (SCMA) has been recognized as a promising technology to further increase the access efficiency of wireless networks. In this paper, we consider the receiver design problem for SCMA system over frequency selective channels. The conventional minimum mean squared error (MMSE) detection method suffers from huge complexity due to the the multi-user and inter-symbol interferences. To this end, we propose a near optimal low complexity message passing receiver. By approximating the discrete loglikelihood ratio as Gaussian random variable, all messages on factor graph can be obtained as Gaussian distributions. Furthermore, we propose to introduce auxiliary variables to the factor graph and develop a novel hybrid belief propagation (BP) and expectation propagation (EP) receiver. Simulation results show that the proposed hybrid BP-EP method performs close to the MMSE-based receiver with reduced complexity. Also, compared to the orthogonal multiple access scheme, the considered SCMA system with the proposed receiver is able to support 50% more users.

In this paper, we investigated error probability bounds for sparse code multiple access (SCMA) signals. SCMA is one of proposed non-orthogonal multiple access schemes for Fifth generation (5G) wireless communication standard. This scheme allows to increase the number of active users inside a given time-frequency resource. For AWGN and Rayleigh (without diversity) channels, we calculated union bounds for symbol and bit error probability. Asymptotic bound based on minimal distance between signals is also calculated. Analytical bounds are compared with simulations results (Maximum Likelihood (ML) Algorithm and Message Passing Algorithm (MPA) were used for signal reception). For AWGN channel, the results show that analytical bounds (symbol and bit error probabilities) are tight in the high-SNR region. For Rayleigh channel, analytical bound for symbol error probability are pessimistic with the gap of approximately 0.7 dB in the medium-and high-SNR regions.

In this letter, we investigate the fundamental tradeoff between rate and energy for sparse code multiple access (SCMA) networks with wireless power transfer. A weighted rate and energy maximization problem by jointly considering power allocation, codebook assignment, and power splitting, is formulated. To solve the hard problem, an iterative algorithm based on the univariate search technique is proposed, which has good performance with low complexity. Specifically, we analyze the special structure of the problem and exploit it to obtain the optimal power splitting ratio and resource allocation strategy when one of them is fixed. Simulation results indicate that our algorithm achieves a better rate-energy tradeoff compared to other schemes.

On Fixed-Point Implementation of Log-MPA for SCMA Signals

In this letter, we present a design framework for fixed-point implementation of the log-domain message passing algorithm (Log-MPA) for sparse code multiple access signals, and make a detailed comparative analysis on the complexity of Log-MPA and traditional MPA. We also investigate the impact of the number of massage-passing iterations within the Log-MPA decoding process on the performance of Log-MPA. Simulation results demonstrate that Log-MPA achieves favorable performance with low-complexity hardware implementation as compared to MPA. We also implement Log-MPA on FPGA evaluation board to verify the performance of Log-MPA.

sparse code multiple access (SCMA) is a promising candidate multiple access technology for the fifth generation (5G) mobile communication system. In this paper, we propose a factor graph based high performance Joint Detection and Decoding scheme (JDD) for the Low Density Parity Check code (LDPC) coded SCMA system. Also, we propose a message damping aided reduced complexity JDD scheme (RC-JDD) to achieve a lower complexity. According to the simulation results, the proposed JDD scheme has 2.6dB Bit Error Rate (BER) performance gain compared with the traditional methods and approximates to the single user detection performance bound with only 0.5dB loss. The RC-JDD scheme has only 10% complexity of JDD scheme with only 0.5dB loss. Thus the proposed RC-JDD scheme can be a good candidate for 5G system.

sparse code multiple access (SCMA) is a research hotspot in recent years. In this paper, we proposed a joint SCMA detection and Turbo decoding (JDD) scheme for the SCMA system. The proposed method integrates the message passing between SCMA detector and turbo decoder into the factor graph of the SCMA detector to construct a joint factor graph. Simulation results show the JDD scheme has 1.6 dB performance gain compared to the iterative detection and decoding (IDD) scheme. Moreover, it has only 0.2 dB performance loss compared to the single user QPSK system. To further reduce the computational complexity of the JDD scheme, we implement the JDD scheme in the logarithm domain (LOG-JDD) with the same performance compared with the IDD scheme. A technology that can improve the convergence is used to improve the bit error rate (BER) performance. Simulation results show that a suitable damping factor can obtain about 1dB performance gain compared with the IDD scheme.

sparse code multiple access (SCMA) is a novel non-orthogonal access technique for future multiple access, which increases the spectral efficiency by directly mapping data streams of multiple users to sparse codewords in different SCMA layers, and these SCMA layers are imposed on the same SCMA block composed of limited resource elements (REs). As the sparsity of codewords, message passing algorithm (MPA) can be employed to detect multiple users' data with near optimal performance. But the complexity of MPA is still high, especially in the case of overload, where the downlink user receiver needs to implement the whole iterative process of MPA to get its data although the rest users' data is unnecessary for it. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-stage MPA algorithm, which sorts the level of signal to noise ratio (SNR) of imposed users to decide the detection order and iterations of each stage. Further by reconstructing the factor graph, it can realize downlink user detection without processing the whole MPA, which reduces the complexity by decreasing iterations. Combined with multi-stage MPA, power allocation should be reconsidered according to user's channel condition, which can further improve the performance of the proposed algorithm. The simulation results demonstrate that the performance of proposed detection algorithm is close to MPA at the low SNR region, and gains about 1dB over max-log-MPA, while the complexity is decreased around a half than MPA.
