Modeling and Optimization of a spatial detection System

Oil and gas companies are drilling and developing fields in the Arctic Ocean, which is an environment with ice floes. These companies must protect their platforms from ice floe collisions. One proposal is to use a system that consists of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and docking stations. The AUVs measure the under-water topography of the ice floes, while the docking stations launch the AUVs and recharge their batteries. Given resource constraints, we optimize locations and quantities for the docking stations and the AUVs, as well as the AUV scheduling policies, to maximize security of the platform. We model the system using a multistage stochastic facility location problem to optimize the docking station locations, the AUV allocations, and the scheduling policies of the AUVs. A two-stage stochastic facility location problem and two efficient online scheduling heuristics provide lower bounds and upper bounds for the multistage model. Even though the model is motivated by an oil industry project, most of the modeling and optimization methods apply more broadly to two-dimensional radial detection.

A Fast Readout Electronic System for Accurate spatial detection in Ion Beam Tracking for the Next Generation of Particle Accelerators

This paper presents the design, implementation, and measurements of a complete electronic frontend intended for high-resolution spatial detection of ion beams at counting rates higher than 106 particles per second (p/s). The readout system is made up of three main multichannel building blocks, namely, a transimpedance preamplifier, a signal-conditioning line receiver, and a charge-to-digital converter, as well as some off-the-shelf components. The preamplifier and the line receiver have been specifically designed and optimized to minimize the overlapping probability of ion beams tracking, at high counting rates, in low-pressure gaseous secondary electron detectors. Experimental results are shown, considering a particles sources and particles beams, featuring an adaptive shaping time frame of 170-230 ns with a peak signal-to-noise ratio of up to 25 dB. These performance metrics are competitive with the state of the art, demonstrating the suitability of the reported data acquisition and instrumentation system for precise and fast particle tracking detection.

Fast-flux service networks (FFSNs), broadly used by botnets, are an evasive technique for conducting malicious behavior via rapid activities. FFSN detection easily fails in the case of poor performance and causes a high incidence of false positives due to the similarity of an FFSN to a content distribution network (CDN), a normal behavior for load balance. In this study, we propose a localized spatial geolocation detection (LSGD) system for identifying FFSNs in real time. We believe that the grid distribution of LSGD possesses a precise spatial locating capability for profiling the spatial relations between IP address resolutions. Furthermore, autonomous system numbers (ASNs) are used for enhancing localized geographic characteristics. The proposed system, incorporating LSGD, ASNs, and the domain name system (DNS), can respond well to identify potential FFSNs. The results of our experiment show that the proposed LSGD system has a better detection capability than state-of-the-art spatial or temporal detection approaches, with a lower false positive rate in real-time detection than the approach based on a spatial snapshot alone.

ODRP: a new approach for spatial street sign detection from EXIF using deep learning-based object detection, distance estimation, rotation and projection system

Geographical information systems (GIS) are the systems where spatial data are stored and analyzed. The most important raw material in GIS is spatial data. Thus, it is essential to collect and update these data. On the other hand, exchangeable image file (EXIF) format is a special file format that contains camera direction, date-time information and GPS location provided by a digital camera that captures the images. Transferring the objects in EXIF data sets with absolute coordinates on the earth significantly contributes to GIS. In this study, a new hybrid approach, ODPR, which utilizes object detection (O), distance estimation (D), rotation (R) and projection (P) methods, is proposed to detect street sign objects in EXIF with their locations. The performance of the proposed approach has been examined on the natural EXIF data sets obtained from the Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality. In the proposed approach, a deep learning method detects a street sign object in the EXIF. Then, the object's distance is calculated at the point where the photograph is taken. Finally, the spatial location of the detected object on the earth is calculated using distance, direction and GPS data with rotation and projection methods. In the proposed ODRP approach, the performances of convolutional neural network (CNN)-based Faster R-CNN, YOLO V5, YOLO V6 and transformer-based DETR models as deep learning models for object detection are examined. The F1 score metric is widely used to examine the performance of methods in deep learning models. The performances of the proposed approaches are reviewed according to the F1 score values, and ODRP Faster R-CNN, YOLO V5, YOLO V6 and DETR approaches achieved F1 scores of 0.909, 0.956, 0.948 and 0.922, respectively. In addition, to overcome the variability of light and background mixing problems, an improved supervised learning method (ISL) is proposed. On-chip multiplexed solid-phase nucleic acid hybridization assay using spatial profiles of immobilized quantum dots and fluorescence resonance energy transfer

A microfluidic based solid-phase assay for the multiplexed detection of nucleic acid hybridization using quantum dot (QD) mediated fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) is described herein. The glass surface of hybrid glass-polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microfluidic channels was chemically modified to assemble the biorecognition interface. Multiplexing was demonstrated using a detection system that was comprised of two colors of immobilized semi-conductor QDs and two different oligonucleotide probe sequences. Green-emitting and red-emitting QDs were paired with Cy3 and Alexa Fluor 647 (A647) labeled oligonucleotides, respectively. The QDs served as energy donors for the transduction of dye labeled oligonucleotide targets. The in-channel assembly of the biorecognition interface and the subsequent introduction of oligonucleotide targets was accomplished within minutes using a combination of electroosmotic flow and electrophoretic force. The concurrent quantification of femtomole quantities of two target sequences was possible by measuring the spatial coverage of FRET sensitized emission along the length of the channel. In previous reports, multiplexed QD-FRET hybridization assays that employed a ratiometric method for quantification had challenges associated with lower analytical sensitivity arising from both donor and acceptor dilution that resulted in reduced energy transfer pathways as compared to single-color hybridization assays. Herein, a spatial method for quantification that is based on in-channel QD-FRET profiles provided higher analytical sensitivity in the multiplexed assay format as compared to single-color hybridization assays. The selectivity of the multiplexed hybridization assays was demonstrated by discrimination between a fully-complementary sequence and a 3 base pair sequence at a contrast ratio of 8 to 1. Design and experimental results of a preamplifier for particles tracking in secondary electron detectors

This paper presents the design and experimental characterization of a preamplifier used in the electronic front-end of low-pressure gaseous secondary electron detectors. The circuit-implemented in a printed circuit board as a proof of concept has been designed to cope with the specifications of the readout electronics used in spatial (beam particle position) measurements. Experimental results show a transimpedance gain of 80 dB Omega, an overall voltage gain of 18 dB, a peak signal-to-noise ratio of 36.5 dB and a shaping time frame of 140-170 ns. These features improve the performance of previous reported approaches to the problem, and allow us to minimize the overlapping probability in secondary electron detections for radioactive ion beams tracking, achieving a counting rate higher than 10(6) particles per second. In view of the problems of low efficiency and high cost of manual cloth loading,the introduction of loading robots has become a key strategy to improve the loading *** three-dimensional detection system was designed on the basis of the loading robot, and the hardware design and software demand analysis software were divided and designed. The system uses advanced 3D sensors as the core perception equipment, which is installed at the front end of the robot arm to realize the intelligent detection of environmental information in the truck compartment. Based on the TOF time-of-flight technology, high-quality point cloud data was obtained. In terms of point cloud processing, the normal estimation algorithm and the RANSAC circle fitting algorithm are proposed, which aim to optimize the quality of point cloud data, reduce noise, and accelerate the real-time processing *** can generate high-precision three-dimensional point cloud data, obtain the position and size of the detection carriage, and detect the loading status of the cloth, which can achieve higher speed and more accurate grasping and placing of the cloth, reduce the error, thereby significantly improving the overall loading efficiency and reducing labor costs.

A novel method for anomaly detection in crowded scenes is presented. In our method, a new feature which named Mixture of Kernel Dynamic Texture was used for video representation. The MKDT method jointly models the appearance and dynamics of the scene. Based on this method, the abnormal detection includes temporal detection and spatial detection. The model for normal crowd behavior is based on MKDTs and outliers under this model are labeled as anomalies detection. Temporal anomalies are the events with low probability under the MKDT models. While spatial detection based on discriminant saliency is used to get a spatial detection map. The proposed representation is shown to outperform various state of the art abnormal detection methods.

The increasing request of bandwidth for multimedia advanced services is one of the major issues of modern wireless systems. The spectrum shortage has been faced in several ways;among others the cognitive radio approach, aiming to exploit the unused spectrum resources already assigned to incumbent users, is maybe the most known. However, even if its application has been extensively proposed for wireless terrestrial communications, it remains a still unexplored area concerning Satellite Communications. The aim of this paper is to propose an Energy Detector based Radio Environment Mapping for the spectrum awareness functionality of a hybrid terrestrial/satellite scenario where the satellite components aim at exploiting the resources unused by terrestrial communications. The proposed approach allows to take advantage of cooperation between multiple sensing nodes evaluating spatial detection and false alarm probabilities besides their relationship with device detection and false alarm probabilities.
