Within the scope of the cooperative project "VireS" an instrument for the integrative development of product and production system is developed considering the aspects costs and robustness at an early design stage. In this work we present a specification technique for the description of the principle solution of a production system based on the principle solution of the product. This describes the manufacturing processes (operation sequence) and the allocated resources which are used. Furthermore the proposed approach maps the relationships between product and production system.

A synthesis of evaluation criteria for software specifications and specification techniques

Several evaluation criteria exist in the literature for both specification and specification techniques. These. evaluation criteria identify a list of desired properties in specifications and specification techniques for judging their goodness. This paper presents a detailed analysis of several specification and specification technique evaluation criteria. Detailed analysis of these criteria identified that there is a lack of consistency in the property definition among criteria. The implication of this lack of differentiation between the two concepts is that the criteria for both specification and specification techniques are intermingled. Since the concept of specification is different from specification technique, the criteria used for one might not be applicable for the other. For example, "completeness" and "consistency" are specification criteria. A specification can be complete and consistent regardless of the medium used to represent the specification, the process used in its construction, the degree/extent of tools and automation used, or whether it is formal or informal. However, there is meaning to denote that a technique can be used to produce "consistent" or "complete" specifications. Hence, for proper applicability of these criteria, this paper separates specification criteria from that of the specification technique criteria. This paper also presents a unified criteria terminology and uses a table to list each criterion property. from various researchers mapped to the unified terminology. The paper,also identifies and presents a mapping from technique criteria to the specification criteria that shows which technique criteria satisfies specification criteria. The applicability of the mapping is then demonstrated by applying the mapping to a specification language and its support environment.

Various requirements engineering techniques have been proposed to enhance the quality of requirement as well as the implemented software and to growth customer satisfaction with the product. However the large number of requirement techniques makes the choosing between them complicated and confusing. The increasing penetration of mechanical engineering by information technology enables considerable benefits. The arising new discipline is referred to by the term mechatronics, which expresses the close integration of mechanics, electrics/electronics, control engineering and software engineering. Hence, the design and production of such systems is an interdisciplinary and complex task. An effective and continuous cooperation and communication between developers from different domains during the whole development process is required. Moreover, the multidisciplinary and synergetic effectiveness of mechatronic systems as well as new production technologies cause strong interdependencies between system parts, which are to be produced. As a consequence, the production system determines the product concept. Restrictions by manufacturing technologies have to be considered already during the early stages of the product development. This contribution deals with the stated problem by providing both, a generic procedure model and a specification technique for the integrative development of mechatronic products and their production systems. In this contribution, we present a framework for the computer-aided planning and optimisation of manufacturing process chains for functional graded components. The framework is divided into three modules - the "Component Description", the "Expert System" for the synthetisation of several manufacturing process chains and the "Modelling and Process Chain Optimisation". The Component Description module enhances a standard computer-aided design (CAD) model by a voxel-based representation of the intended graded properties. The Expert System synthesises manufacturing process steps stored in the knowledge base to generate alternative process chains. All these process chains are capable of producing components according to the enhanced CAD model. They consist of a sequence of heating-, cooling-, and forming manufacturing processes. The interdependencies between the component and the applied manufacturing processes as well as between the processes themselves need to be considered. For that purpose the Expert System utilises an ontology. The ontology represents all the interdependencies in a structured way and connects the information of the knowledge base via relations. The third module performs the evaluation of the generated manufacturing process chains. To accomplish this, the parameters of each process step are optimised according to the component specification, whereby the result of the best parameterization is used as a representative value. Finally the process chain which is capable of producing a functional graded component in an optimal way regarding to the property distributions of the component description is presented by means of a dedicated specification technique.

The development of mechatronic systems starts with conceptual design followed by design concretization and ends with system integration The result of the conceptual design phase is the principle solution. It describes the main physical and logical operating characteristics of the system in a domain-spanning way. On the basis of this jointly developed principle solution, further design concretizations will take place in parallel within the domains involved Finally, during the system integration phase, the outcomes from the individual domains are integrated to form an overall system We developed a set of semiformal specification techniques to describe the principle solution of mechatronic systems. In collaboration with UNITY AG, we extended the usefulness of the specification technique for the management of development processes and development organization in enterprises.

In this contribution a framework for the computer-aided planning and optimisation of functional graded components is presented. The expressive power of abstract-state machines

Conventional computation models assume symbolic representations of states and actions. Gurevich's "Abstract-State Machine" model takes a more liberal position: Any mathematical structure may serve as a state. This results in,:a computational model that is more powerful and more universal than standard computation models" [5]. We characterize the Abstract-State Machine model as a special class of transition systems that widely extends the class of "computable" transition systems. This characterization is based on a fundamental Theorem of Y. Gurevich.
