spillover Dynamics in Heterogeneous Catalysis on Singe-Atom Alloys: A Theoretical Perspective

Recent advances in single-atom alloy (SAA) catalysts provide a unique platform for understanding spillover, due to the well-defined nature of the active site for dissociative chemisorption. In particular, the use of spilled adsorbates following molecular dissociation on the host metal surface facilitates the generation of high-value chemicals in subsequent catalytic reactions. Nevertheless, the factors that control the spillover process remain to be fully elucidated. This perspective discusses recent theoretical advances in the spillover dynamics on SAAs, with a particular focus on the dissociation and spillover processes of H-2 and CH4. It provides valuable insights into how various factors, such as energy transfer, nuclear quantum effects, gas-adsorbate interactions, and adsorbate size, impact the diffusion behavior of hydrogen and methyl species on SAA surfaces. The article concludes with a discussion of future prospects. This perspective underscores the significance of spillover dynamics in heterogeneous catalysis, with important implications for improving catalytic performance.

In this paper, we address the problem of polarimetric detection of a target with energy spillover in Gaussian environment. We adopt full polarized channels and use diverse criteria to design detectors, resulting in five new adaptive detectors. Performance evaluation reveals that the derived detectors gain higher probabilities of detection (PD) and better localization abilities, compared to the detectors which only use single-channel or dual-channel polarized data. A knowledge-aided detector is also proposed to give a further boost in detection and localization performances, especially under small number of secondary data. Besides, all the derived detectors guarantee the bounded constant false alarm rate (CFAR) properties. Experiments with real data from IPIX radar validate the superior performance and the practicability of the proposed detectors.

spillover Effect of Green Bond with Metal and Bullion Market

This paper examines the spillover of green bond with metal market and bullion market using the daily observation from 16/06/2014 to 25/02/2022. The S&P Green Bond (GBD) is used to measure the Green bond while Copper (CPR) and Aluminium (ALM) are used to represent the metal market;the bullion market is measured by Silver (SLV) and Gold (GLD). The result reveals that there is spillover from Green bond to Aluminium, Silver and Gold both in the short run and long while the spillover of Green bond with Copper is only spotted in long run. It furnishes diversification opportunities considering Green bond and Copper in short run due to its absence of spillover. This study offers an implication to various stakeholder of the metal and bullion market.

PurposeThis study examines the spillover effects of geopolitical risks on the banking sectors of a sample of post-Soviet countries, focusing on the consequences of the Russian-Ukrainian ***/methodology/approachWe use the geopolitical risk (GPR) index from Caldara and Iacoviello (2022) as a global measure of geopolitical risk and the Diebold-Yilmaz (2012) connectedness model to estimate the spillover effects of the conflict on the performance of financial institutions. We also conduct a network analysis to examine the transmission effects among banking sectors *** results show little or no significant evidence of GPR transmissions on the financial sector's performance (returns) and risk in the countries *** implicationsThis study allows for a better understanding of GPR transmission mechanisms and the consequences of the conflict on Russia's neighbouring countries. It can also support policymakers and financial institutions in formulating risk management ***/valueThis study bridges the existing gap in the literature by examining the effects of GPR events that occurred in the post-Soviet region from 2017 to 2023 on the banking sectors of a selected sample of CIS countries. These economies have not yet received as much academic attention as other developed and developing countries. However, the geographical, historical and cultural proximity of the post-Soviet countries examined to the parties involved in the Russia-Ukraine conflict makes this research particularly relevant.

Do gender stereotype threats have a spillover effect on motor tasks among children? A mixed-model design investigation

Objectives: The stereotype threat effect has captivated social and sports psychology researchers for over two decades. However, many questions remain unanswered. This research was designed to explore the spillover effects of stereotype threat in motor tasks. Design: A mixed model design with within-between-subjects was utilized, with soccer performance and throwing scores serving as the dependent variables. Method: Forty-two 10-year-old girls without mental or physical disabilities participated in the study and were randomly assigned into two groups: stereotype threat (ST) and nullified stereotype threat (NST). After measuring baseline performance in throwing and soccer tasks, the participants in the ST group received soccer-based stereotype induction. Afterwards, they performed 20 trials of soccer shooting. Half an hour later, the children were asked to perform 10 throws with the non-dominant hand. Results: Our results indicated that inducing soccer-based stereotypes towards girls led to underperformance in soccer, however, this negative effect did not spill over onto subsequent task (i.e., throwing) which was unrelated to the induced stereotype. Conclusions: Our finding regarding the stereotype threat spillover effect is novel and provides more insight into the range of effects of stereotype threat within the motor domain. The findings encourage the researcher to practice caution regarding the generalizability of the stereotype threat spillover effect, especially in motor tasks.

When does spillover from marine protected areas indicate benefits to fish abundance and catch?

spillover is a term commonly applied to the dispersal of fish and/or larvae from inside a closed area to areas open to fishing. The presence of spillover is often quantified by measuring gradients in attributes such as abundance or catch rates near the boundaries of closed areas or by measuring higher abundance inside closed areas compared to outside. It is commonly assumed that such gradients or ratios indicate that the closed area has benefitted the fishery and the total abundance of fish. We explore this assumption using a spatially explicit model of closed areas with different intensities of fishing and fish movement, and we find that such gradients will be expected any time there is higher abundance inside the closed area. However, such gradients do not necessarily indicate a benefit to the fishery either in terms of total catch or catch rate, and unless pre-closure fishing was intense, total abundance is not expected to rise significantly. We examine case studies that argue that spillover exists and leads to fishery benefits. We then evaluate the evidence for net benefits in these case studies and find those with evidence of net benefits all come from places where fishing pressure was intense. While most analysis come from quite small coastal closed areas, two studies of very large open-ocean closed areas are discussed, and we find that both suggest little overall impact on the tuna populations that support the main commercial fisheries affected by the closures in question.

spillover effects in environmental behaviors: a scoping review about its antecedents, behaviors, and consequences

Research on environmental spillover, the phenomenon where engaging in one environmental behavior (EB) influences the likelihood of engaging in another EB, has expanded, introducing various theories and predictors to explain it. This study provides an overview and synthesis of the examined antecedents, behaviors, and consequences in environmental spillover research, while also identifying key gaps and shortcomings in the literature. Additionally, we propose a conceptual framework to guide future studies in this domain. We conducted a scoping review using Google Scholar, EBSCOhost, and Web of Science databases with keywords related to "pro-environmental behavior" and "spillover". From 610 identified records, 81 studies were included in the final analysis. Environmental spillovers are predominantly studied in consumerism (e.g., buying reusable bags) and domestic behaviors (e.g., conserving energy at home). Behavioral spillovers (n = 68) are more frequently examined than temporal (n = 10) and contextual spillovers (n = 10). Research on consequences has mainly focused on promoting (n = 67) or permitting (n = 27) spillovers, with purging (n = 6) and precipitating (n = 3) spillovers being less explored. Concerning antecedents, we identified nine categories of internal factors ("efficacy beliefs", "normative beliefs", "moral values", "environmental self-identity", "environmental consciousness", "personality and lifestyle", "self-focused emotions", "moral licensing thoughts", "workplace perception") and two categories of external factors ("characteristics of EB", "intervention characteristics") in the literature. Our review highlights not only research gaps but also methodological shortcomings, particularly the over-reliance on everyday EB, and the use of homogeneous samples. Significant gaps remain in the study of (I) high-cost behaviors, (II) long-term spillover effects, (III) organizational behavior settings, and (IV) spillovers from anti-environmental behaviors.

Investigating the spillover Mechanisms of Payment Incentives on the Outcomes for Non-Targeted Patients

Payment reforms in healthcare can have spillover effects on the care experienced by non-targeted patients treated by the same provider. Few empirical studies have quantitatively investigated the mechanisms behind these effects. We formulate theory-driven hypotheses to investigate the spillover mechanisms of a regional payment reform in the English National Health Service, using linked patient-physician data and difference-in-differences methods. We show that regional payment changes were associated with an increase in mortality of 0.321 percentage points (S.E. 0.114) for non-targeted emergency patients who were treated by physicians with no exposure to the incentives, compared to control regions. In contrast, the mortality rate for non-targeted patients reduced by 0.008 percentage points (S.E. 0.002) for every additional targeted patient treated per quarter by their physician. These findings were consistent across a range of sensitivity analyses. The findings suggest that providers diverted resources away from non-targeted patients but that patients benefitted from physicians learning from the incentives. We demonstrate how the formulation of theory-driven hypotheses about spillover mechanisms can improve the understanding of how and where spillover effects may occur, contributing to research design and policymaking.

Interconnectedness and return spillover among APEC currency exchange rates: A time-frequency analysis

By combining TVP-VAR Model (time domain connectedness) and TVP-VAR based Barun & iacute;k and K & rcaron;ehl & iacute;k model (frequency domain connectedness), this study analyzes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) collapse on the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum currency exchange rates. The results reveal that APEC currencies have time-varying effects (tend to cluster in appreciation and depreciation patterns in both the short and long term) and have generated higher total return spillover during COVID-19 (in the time domain) than the Russia-Ukraine war and SVB collapse. During COVID-19 (87.18 %) (total return spillover), impacts were more severe than the Russia-Ukraine crisis (79.49 %) and the Silicon Valley Bank collapse (75.55 %). Moreover, the South Korean won, Thai Bhat and Australian Dollar are identified as consistent shock transmitters, and Malaysian Ringgit, Philippine peso, Indonesian Rupiah, and Chinese Yuan as consistent shock receivers in the time domain. The findings have substantial repercussions for financial regulators and investors.

The nexus between carbon, energy and agrifood-A contemporaneous and lagged spillover analysis

Global concern about energy, food security and climate change is on the rise. We investigate the spillover effects amidst carbon, energy and agrifood markets. Applying the novel R2 decomposed connectedness approach we find that the impact of the contemporaneous spillover in the total connectedness is significant, while the lagged effects contribute substantially when looking at the net spillover. Corn appears as the main net transmitter and carbon is mostly a net receiver. The Russian-Ukraine war affected the markets, given Ukraine's role in food production and the impact of the conflict on Europe's access to natural gas, increasing coal use.
