Trade-offs in ready-mixed concrete truck scheduling considering stochastic congestion: A novel multi-objective model driven by strength pareto evolutionary algorithm

Ready-mixed concrete (RMC) is extensively used in the construction industry due to its high quality and efficiency. However, as market competition intensifies, RMC companies are under increasing pressure to improve their competitiveness while maintaining strong customer relationships. Efficiently dispatching trucks and optimizing RMC delivery to meet both customer demands and company needs has become a significant challenge for RMC companies' development. To this end, this study first conducts a demand analysis of RMC truck scheduling from both supply and demand perspectives and identifies five key scheduling objectives: operational cost, load rate, load balancing, time windows, and continuity of concrete pouring. Secondly, objective dimensionality reduction is achieved by constructing composite load and penalty functions and integrating a congestion time function to simulate traffic congestion scenarios. On this basis, a tri-objective optimization model that balances total cost, composite load, and customer satisfaction is constructed, which reduces the complexity of model computation without compromising the integrity of objective constraints. Then, the study innovatively designs decision variables for truck numbers and departure intervals and employs the strength pareto evolutionary algorithm based on reference direction (SPEA/R) to solve the model. Additionally, the mutation operation was improved by introducing traffic congestion variables and dynamically adjusting departure intervals to mitigate the impact of congestion on scheduling. This facilitates the refinement of RMC truck scheduling in terms of both truck configuration and dispatch planning under traffic congestion conditions. Finally, a Chinese RMC company case study was conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed model. This paper deals with a set of ultra fast converter connected to the winding of AC machine by a short planar cable. The main feature of this study is to design a set of bus bar, a planar cable to mitigate surges produced at each switching commutation of the SiC Transistor, without consequently modifying its rise time. This calculation is obtained by the principle of genetic algorithm based on strength pareto evolutionary algorithm (SPEA), with as extra constraint a limited volume of the overall size of the system. Simulations analysis and experimental tests are carried out and compared, they underline the main benefits of the developed method.

The problem of injection molding machine's multi-objective optimization is very important. A triple-objective optimization model with the largest mould moving speed and injecting capacities and the smallest injecting power has been created. The optimized design constraints of the optimal model are summarized. The computational efficiency of strength pareto evolutionary algorithm (SPEA) is improved by using rough set-based support vector clustering method. The number of external stocks is reduced. The optimal pareto solution is determined by eliminating the uncertainty in the artificial priority election. The multi-objective optimization of the HT1600X1N injection molding machine is taken as an example. The SPEA-RSVC-II which is the mixed algorithm of strength pareto evolutionary algorithm and Ro'ugh-based Support Vector Clustering is applied. It shows that the new method could accelerate the population clustering operation effectively and improves the efficiency of optimized calculation.

An improved strength pareto evolutionary algorithm is proposed to solve the multi-objective optimal power flow problem. The fuel cost and emission are considered as two objective functions for the optimal flow problem. In the proposed algorithm, there are three aspects of improvements in the original strength pareto evolutionary algorithm. First, the external archive population is only composed of the variable size of non-dominated individuals in environmental selection operator. Secondly, the Euclidean distance between the elite individuals and its k-th neighboring individuals is adopted to update the external archive population. Thirdly, the local search strategy is embedded into strength pareto evolutionary algorithm. The performance of the proposed method has been tested on the IEEE 30-bus and IEEE 57-bus systems. The simulation results show that the proposed method is able to produce well distributed pareto optimal solutions for the multi-objective optimal power flow problem. Compared with the results obtained by other methods, the superiority of the proposed method is verified. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A strength pareto evolutionary algorithm based on adaptive reference points for solving irregular fronts

evolutionary algorithms have proven to be extremely effective at tackling multi-objective opti-mization problems (MOPs). However, when dealing with many-objective optimization problems (MaOPs), their performance frequently degrades, especially when the pareto marking irregular shapes. The population pressure to choose the pareto optimal front and address the generaliz-ability of different pareto front shapes becomes more challenging as the number of objectives increases. We present a strength pareto evolutionary algorithm based on adaptive reference points (SPEA/ARP) to address this problem. First, the reference points are updated using current and historical population information. The angles between the current demographic information and the predefined uniform reference points are used to select the active reference points, and the adaptive reference points are selected from the historical population information projected onto the reference plane. Second, the fitness function values are applied to classify the environmental selection criteria into two categories: 1) The angle distance scaling function using adaptive reference points is utilized to increase selection pressure, and the diversity of non-dominated solutions is balanced using the angle-based secondary selection technique. 2) Otherwise, the fitness function values are employed to choose the next generation of non-dominated solutions. Third, an aggregate fitness r-value generated by the angle distance scaling function is employed to construct matching pools that produce valid offsprings. Finally, extensive experiments are carried out to demonstrate SPEA/ARP performance by comparing it with six state-of-the-art many -objective evolutionary algorithms on 5-, 10-, 15-objective of 31 benchmark MaOPs. The experi-ments show that SPEA/ARP outperforms the compared algorithms.

Although live VM migration has been intensively studied, the problem of live migration of multiple interdependent VMs has hardly been investigated. The most important problem in the live migration of multiple interdependent VMs is how to schedule VM migrations as the schedule will directly affect the total migration time and the total downtime of those VMs. Aiming at minimizing both the total migration time and the total downtime simultaneously, this paper presents a strength pareto evolutionary algorithm 2 (SPEA2) for the multi-VM migration scheduling problem. The SPEA2 has been evaluated by experiments, and the experimental results show that the SPEA2 can generate a set of VM migration schedules with a shorter total migration time and a shorter total downtime than an existing genetic algorithm, namely Random Key Genetic algorithm (RKGA). This paper also studies the scalability of the SPEA2.

The capacitated vehicle routing problem with time windows (CVRPTW) belongs to a set of complex combinatorial optimization problems that find major application in logistic systems and telecommunications. It is a complex variant of the well studied capacitated vehicle routing problem (CVRP). Few meta-heuristic approaches have been proposed to solve the CVRPTW problem in literature. In this paper, we examine a population based meta-heuristic algorithm, more precisely the strength pareto evolutionary algorithm SPEA2 with hill climbing as a local search. The novelty of the approach lies in the choice of multi objective evolutionary algorithm namely SPEA2, its suggested evolutionary operators, and the optimization for three objectives: the number of routes, the total distance travelled, and the average time per route. The proposed algorithm is implemented using Python, and tested on the Solomon's instances benchmark. Favorable results are reported and suggestions for further improvements are discussed.

Recently, there arise some important Multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs) over the years, among these MOEAs, strength pareto evolutionary algorithm (SPEA) seems the most effective technique for finding or approximating the pareto-optimal set for multiobjective optimization problems with several characteristics. Unfortunately, there are always some basic and obvious characteristics or knowledge in pending problem, where the loss due to this negligence is sometimes considerable in dealing with complex problems. Based on these reasons, an improvement on SPEA with immunity is given to restrain degeneracy of the evolution process, where the immune operator is realized by vaccine extraction, vaccination and immune selection in turn. Simulations show the ISPEA is effective and feasible.

In this paper, we investigate the ability of improved version of strength pareto evolutionary algorithm, namely SPEA2, as a multi-objective algorithm. This algorithm is applied to design two power system stabilizers (PSSs) coordinately for multi-machine power system to damp the inter-area oscillation. To fulfill this desire, the parameters of the PSSs are coordinately determined by SPEA2 using two eigenvalue-based objective functions. Numerical results are presented on a 2-area 4-machines system to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method. In addition, to validate the results obtained by the SPEA2, the Real Genetic algorithm (RGA) and the Real Immune algorithm (RIA) are compared. A one line to ground fault is applied at a bus to show the effectiveness of the designed controllers. The simulation study shows that the performance of the proposed controller by SPEA2 performs better than RGA and RIA in finding the solution.
