With the rapid development of customized production and globalization, a vast number of heterogeneous CAM models are generated and stored in enterprises, which contain lots of experts' knowledge and experience. Sharing and reusing these models is a favorable method to improve the NC process planning efficiency, and the structuralized representation of these heterogeneous CAM models is the precondition. In this paper, a structured heterogeneous CAM models based on process knowledge graph is presented. Firstly, the multilevel and multifactor process knowledge graph is constructed, which describes the CAD models and NC processes in a unified way to guide the data mapping and exchange. Then, the CAM system ontology is established to organize the inherent concepts/terms of heterogeneous CAM systems accurately and consistently. And the concept/semantic match between ontology model and process knowledge graph is achieved through the multistrategy ontology mapping. Finally, the implicit semantics is obtained through rule-based reasoning and the precision of match results is checked, which enriches and guarantees the unity of the process knowledge graph. A prototype system has been developed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

We review the use of bond graphs for modeling of physico-chemical processes. We recall that bond graphs define a circuit-type language which root on a thermodynamical consistent definition of its network elements. We present the bond graph basic elements in the light of lumped models arising from chemical engineering. We first illustrate it on the historical example of the diffusion process through a membrane. The examples of a Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor and an adsorption process illustrate how the network structure and the choice of variables ease the reusability of submodels and localize the changes in models to some network elements. The model of the biological tissue on the basis of the grid arrays of resistive filaments is considered. The amplitude and phase of the electromagnetic wave transmission coefficients are investigated. It is shown that the variation of electrophysical and geometrical parameters of the biological tissue model of the structured type leads to a substantial change in energy and phase characteristics of the transmitted electromagnetic waves for the coincident and cross-polarizations. It allows using the results of the corresponding measurements to extract information concerning deviations of biological environment properties from the typical values, for example, due to the development of cancer.

This paper describes GBM/SM, a graph-based modeling system based on structured modeling that supports model formulation, maintenance and solution. Key features of GBMS/SM include the following: (1) model construction using graphical inputs. (2) modeling in multiple problem domains, (3) syntax-directed editing, (4) model views at different levels of detail, (5) automation of model data acquisition, and (6) interfaces to solvers, spreadsheets and databases. This paper presents design and implementation details of GBMS/SM that are of general interest to graphical modeling system designers. Challenges that were encountered in the development of GBMS/SM are emphasized in this paper. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.

structured modeling (SM) is a modeling framework designed to represent a wide range of models. The ability to model a variety of data and mathematical relationships in it makes it interesting in the decision support system (DSS) context. This paper develops a logic-based executable modeling language called LSM for SM. Our approach differs from previous research on the development of languages and environments for SM in its ability to represent and manipulate information about structured models (e.g., assumptions). This has been achieved through the use of the embedded languages technique. We illustrate the representational features of LSM, and describe how functions defined in our formalism may be used to support model development.

This paper presents the development of ADMLib, a new high-productivity and efficient Modelica package to model and simulate anaerobic digestion systems inside the structured modeling framework. Library components were organized into subpackages to encompass growth kinetics, non-biochemical reaction kinetics, acid-base, heat transfer, and inhibition processes, as well as the characteristics of substances and gas phase. A validation of the dynamic behavior response was performed where the implemented functions were used to simulate different bibliographic models. A brief performance analysis was carried out, in order to evaluate the component-based approach of ADMLib against the traditional differential algebraic equation (DAE) systems. The implementation testing demonstrated that the developed package was reliable, usable, and performant.

Many Decision Support Systems (DSS) support the decision making process through the use of mathematical models and data. DSS design involves modeling data as well as mathematical relationships in a domain. The process of model formulation and subsequent integration of model with data in a DSS is a complex and ill-structured process. This paper proposes a methodology based on structured modeling (SM), originally introduced by Geoffrion together with the modeling language SML, to model and design the DSS. The methodology includes rigorous and step by step procedures to design and integrate data and modelbases. The main contribution of our approach lies in the integration of research in database design, and mathematical model formulation within the structured modeling framework. The resultant procedures can be easily automated and taught to students in DSS courses. The motivation for our research stemmed from our constant frustrations in teaching DSS courses over the last five years. In the last two years, when we used our methodology, the performance of the students improved significantly. The average score in the DSS project went up to 85 from 60. Our positive experience in using our methodology in classes over the past two years suggests that the methodology imposes structure into the analysis of decision problems, and as a result students produce better DSS designs for classroom cases.

A research prototype implementation has been evolving for several years in parallel with the vision, theory, language, and applicative aspects of structured modeling. The objective of this article is to describe the capabilities of this implementation as it now stands, and to comment on how it contributes toward fulfilling a previously published agenda for the development of a new generation of modeling environments. The intended audience is all modeling system designers and evaluators, including those who do not happen to take a structured modeling approach.

This paper presents the methodological background and implementation of a structured modeling environment developed to meet the requirements of modeling activities undertaken to support intergovernmental negotiations aimed at improving European air quality. Although the motivation for the reported work came from the actual complex application presented in the paper, the actual scope of the paper covers a wide range of issues related to model-based decision-making support. The paper starts with a summary of the context of modeling composed of: the role of models in decision-making support;modeling paradigms;and state-of-the-art aspects of modeling complex problems. The modeling process is then characterized, and the requirement analysis for implementation of structured modeling is specified. The main part of the paper presents the structured modeling technology which was developed to support the implementation of the structured modeling principles for modeling complex problems. structured modeling is a common modeling method. modeling analysis in structured modeling is complex, difficult and time-consuming. This paper proposed the service architecture under Grid analysis environment for SM that is ideally suited to Semantic Web applications. Based on WSDL, OWL-S, FIPA, and OGSA, extending existing Grid paradigms to harness emerging Web service technologies such as SOAP, WSDL and BPEL, a concise overview of Grid middleware for SM is provided. The functionality model, the Web service-based grid architecture for SM, and the logic function architecture of SM is proposed by this paper.
