Combination of a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) with the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) for fashion design scheme evaluation

The purpose of this study is to propose a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process to calculate the criteria weight for evaluating fashion design schemes. The criteria weight is used in the synthetic evaluation method to calculate the index value of each scheme for the selection of the best fashion design. There are four schemes and eight criteria to be evaluated. These four schemes are Academy Look (scheme 1), Country Girl (scheme 2), Ballerina (scheme 3), and Gypsy Girl (scheme 4). The eight criteria are Fashion Forecast, Theme Story, Best-seller Modification, New Idea, Product Position, User Value, Opponent Ability, and Brand Image. To test consistency, another method called the TOPSIS (technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution) is also proposed to calculate the index value of each scheme for the best selection of the fashion design. We find out that the TOPSIS works better than the synthetic evaluation in the selection of fashion design scheme. The TOPSIS uses the concept of the positive-ideal solution and the negative-ideal solution. This method differentiates significantly one scheme from another. This feature makes it much easier for the fashion designer in the selection of the best fashion design.

Assessing Suitability of Rural Settlements Using an Improved technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution

Land suitability assessment is a prerequisite phase in land use planning; it guides toward optimal land use by providing information on the opportunities and constraints involved in the use of a given land area. A geographic information system-based procedure, known as rural settlement suitability evaluation(RSSE) using an improved technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution(TOPSIS), was adopted to determine the most suitable area for constructing rural settlements in different geographical locations. Given the distribution and independence of rural settlements, a distinctive evaluation criteria system that differed from that of urban suitability was established by considering the level of rural infrastructure services as well as living and working conditions. The unpredictable mutual interference among evaluation factors has been found in practical works. An improved TOPSIS using Mahalanobis distance was applied to solve the unpredictable correlation among the criteria in a suitability evaluation. Uncertainty and sensitivity analyses obtained via Monte Carlo simulation were performed to examine the robustness of the model. Daye, a resource-based city with rapid economic development, unsatisfied rural development, and geological environmental problems caused by mining, was used as a case study. Results indicate the following findings: 1) The RSSE model using the improved TOPSIS can assess the suitability of rural settlements, and the suitability maps generated using the improved TOPSIS have higher information density than those generated using traditional TOPSIS. The robustness of the model is improved, and the uncertainty is reduced in the suitability results. 2) Highly suitable land is mainly distributed in the northeast of the study area, and the majority of which is cultivated land, thereby leading to tremendous pressure on the loss of cultivated land. 3) Lastly, 12.54% of the constructive expansion permitted zone and 8.36% of the constructive

This study focuses on multi-criteria decision-making theory to pick vacuum cleaner available in the Indian market. The choice of a vacuum cleaner for the customer is an intricate decision-making, the problem involving multiple conflicting criteria such as the cost of the vacuum cleaner, dust bag capacity, power consumption, and so on. The simple methodology based on the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution method is presented to choose a vacuum cleaner. Based on data collection, eight different companies/brands are considered with 26 diverse models. The ranks of the different alternatives obtained with technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution method are presented. The result reveals that the alternative Karcher WD 3.200 comes out to be the first choice, followed by Karcher WD 4.200 and Eureka Forbes Sensi. This approach based upon multi-criteria decision-making is very beneficial for retailer and wholesalers to help consumers/customers for purchasing their product/item or the consumer itself can make use of this simple methodology. The established proof-of-concept could be further used in the different domains of engineering, science, and management, wherein the decision-making could be biased and vague.

Physicochemical, bioactive, and sensory properties of persimmon-based ice cream: technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution to determine optimum concentration

In the present study, persimmon puree was incorporated into the ice cream mix at different concentrations (8, 16, 24, 32, and 40%) and some physicochemical (dry matter, ash, protein, pH, sugar, fat, mineral, color, and viscosity), textural (hardness, stickiness, and work of penetration), bioactive (antiradical activity and total phenolic content), and sensory properties of samples were investigated. The technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution approach was used for the determination of optimum persimmon puree concentration based on the sensory and bioactive characteristics of final products. Increase in persimmon puree resulted in a decrease in the dry matter, ash, fat, protein contents, and viscosity of ice cream mix. Glucose, fructose, sucrose, and lactose were determined to be major sugars in the ice cream samples including persimmon and increase in persimmon puree concentration increased the fructose and glucose content. Better melting properties and textural characteristics were observed for the samples with the addition of persimmon. Magnesium, K, and Ca were determined to be major minerals in the samples and only K concentration increased with the increase in persimmon content. Bioactive properties of ice cream samples improved and, in general, acetone-water extracts showed higher bioactivity compared with ones obtained using methanol-water extracts. The technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution approach showed that the most preferred sample was the ice cream containing 24% persimmon puree.

The technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution method can solve the problem that is not easy to sort, and is widely applied in the most engineering weighting evaluation. However, it can find that the weightings of each factor are subjectively assigned in technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution method. If the values of the weights are changed, then, the results will be different. It means that if the weighting can be obtained objectively, the result of the overall decision-making can be reasonable and approaching to the actual state of the system. Hence, the main purpose of the paper uses grey relational grade in the grey system theory to convert the value of the weight from subjective into objective in technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution method. And also verify by using a data set of flight training simulator. The final result shows that the grey relational grade weighting for the system, it can enhance the application in technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution method in relative fields.

The industrial landscape is experiencing a dynamic transformation propelled by technological advancements and innovative methodologies. The progression from Industry 1.0 to Industry 4.0 signifies a journey of industrial transformation characterized by technological advancements and shifts in operational paradigms. This transition has significantly impacted various industries, influencing their evolution across successive revolutions. Among these industries, the textile industry, medical industry, iron and steel industry, and agriculture industry have played a pivotal role in all industrial revolutions. This study offers a comprehensive framework for selecting one of these industries for future development, examining their roles in shaping the industrial landscape of the future through the Superiority and Inferiority Ranking Multi-Criteria Decision-Making approach. The objective is to establish a Triple Vague framework on T- Spherical fuzzy sets for industry selection in the Industrial Revolution decision-making process. A comparative analysis was conducted with the proposed Decision-Making framework against other methods such as technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution, the Grey Relational Analysis method, and the preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluation. The results indicate that the proposed structure highlights its effectiveness in addressing issues like hesitation, vagueness, and other undesirable characteristics. This underscores its significance in providing decision-makers with valuable insights for a thorough assessment and selection of optimal alternatives. Finally, the proposed Ranking approach yields two complete rankings, aiding in the effective selection of an industry for development. This innovative approach justifies the selection process in the era of industrial improvement for benefit of the society.

An integrative supplier selection model using Taguchi loss function, TOPSIS and multi criteria goal programming

Some of the key factors affecting the selection of supplier are price, quality, delivery, satisfaction, and warranty degree. The present paper is an extension of previous related work to select the appropriate supplier. This paper deals with an integrative approach considering Taguchi's loss function, technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and Multi criteria goal programming. The model is split up into three phases. In the first phase, the quality losses are identified using Taguchi's loss function. In the second phase, suitable factors are identified with different weights from TOPSIS and in the third phase, a goal programming model is developed to identify the best performing supplier with the weights and the loss associates. The purpose of this paper is to integrate different criteria levels to select relatively better performing supplier. A case is also presented and finally a comparison with data envelopment analysis (DEA) is discussed.

New approach for selecting a suitable recycling collection program for recovered paper and pulp recyclables using AHP-TOPSIS techniques

In the past decade, the use of multiple-criteria decision analysis technology has dramatically increased in solving complex real-world problems in solid waste management. Likewise, many municipalities have paid attention to finding feasible solutions for disposal and recycling of solid waste due to the increase in waste generation rates worldwide. Therefore, policy-makers must determine which recycling program to be implemented among various recycling program options. In this paper, a new approach to select a recycling program for recovered paper and pulp recyclables was proposed using analytic hierarchy process-technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (AHP-TOPSIS) techniques. A set of essential parameters of the decision-making system were identified, and a numerical case to illustrate the procedure was conducted. Our findings show very encouraging results to use a combined model between AHP and TOPSIS to select a suitable recycling program for different recovered recyclable materials.

Integrating the Taguchi method and the multiattribute decision-making method to optimize the surface mount technology solder paste printing thickness process

In order to meet the demand for the current consumer electronic products, the improvement of the surface mount technology is an important trend. This study used the Taguchi method to develop different level schemes of the surface mount technology solder paste printing process parameter in order to obtain the conditions of parameter combinations of the surface mount technology solder paste printing process parameter. However, the Taguchi method of experimental configuration requires multiple trials to obtain the surface mount technology solder paste printing process parameter, which may require considerable cost and time. Therefore, this study attempted to use two multiattribute decision-making methods, gray relational analysis, and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution evaluating method, in order to determine a group of optimal experimental schemes from among the established multiple experimental schemes using the Taguchi method. This study also used the process capability parameter to verify the research methods. The experimental results showed that surface mount technology solder paste printing thickness process capability (C-pk) value has improved from 0.59 to 1.53, which could improve product quality. The Taguchi and two multiattribute decision-making methods have proven that the model can effectively obtain the surface mount technology solder paste printing thickness process parameter.

Advanced FMEA method based on interval 2-tuple linguistic variables and TOPSIS

Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) is a widely used technique for identifying, evaluating, and eliminating potential failures in production, system, and process. The traditional FMEA ranks the failure modes according to risk priority numbers (RPN), which are obtained by the multiplications of the crisp values of risk factors, such as occurrence (O), severity (S), and detection (D). However, the traditional FMEA is criticized for mishandling uncertain information and calculating RPN unreasonably. To overcome the above deficiencies, this study presents an advanced FMEA method combined with interval 2-tuple linguistic variables (ITLV) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). In the proposed method, the evaluations given by different FMEA members based on their different linguistic term sets are represented by ITLVs, which are feasible and valid variables to effectively deal with uncertain information. The TOPSIS method is used to rank the risk priorities of failure modes by comprehensively considering all of risk factors. Finally, an application case is provided to illustrate the validity and robustness of the proposed method.
