Investigation and Comparison of 5G Channel Models: From Qua DRi Ga, NYUSIM,and MG5G Perspectives

This paper investigates and compares three channel models for the fifth generation(5 G) wireless communications: the quasi deterministic radio channel generator(Qua DRi Ga), the NYUSIM channel simulator model developed by New York University, and the more general 5 G(MG5 G) channel model. First, the characteristics of the modeling processes of the three models are introduced from the perspective of model ***, the small-scale parameter modeling strategies of the three models are compared from space/time/frequency domains as well as polarization aspect. In particular, the drifting of small-scale parameters is introduced in ***, through the simulation results of angular power spectrum, Doppler power spectrum density, temporal autocorrelation function, power delay profile, frequency correlation function, channel capacity, and eigenvalue distribution, the three models are comprehensively investigated. According to the simulation results, we clearly analyze the impact of the modeling strategy on the three channel models and give certain evaluations and suggestion which lay a solid foundation for link and system-level simulations for 5 G transmission algorithms.

Channel modelling for vehicle-to-vehicle MIMO communications in geometrical rectangular tunnel scenarios

This study presents a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) statistical channel model for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) line-of-sight (LOS) and non-LOS mobile communication system in a rectangular tunnel environment. In order to improve the V2V communication system performance, the authors introduced the elevation and azimuth angles in three-dimensional modelling based on the original literature. In the proposed reference channel model, the single-bounced scattering propagation path of electromagnetic signals is considered and it is assumed that the scatterers are randomly distributed on the rectangular tunnel wall. Starting from the statistical physical channel model, the time-variant transfer functions are derived. Thereafter, the analytical expressions of the space-time-frequency cross-correlation function, the space cross-correlation function, the temporal autocorrelation function, the frequency correlation function, and MIMO channel capacity are derived. The influence of model parameters on the performance of the V2V communication system is also analysed. This work provides an innovative approach to channel modelling in a rectangular tunnel mobile communication environment.

A Nonisovelocity Geometry-Based Underwater Acoustic Channel Model

This paper proposes a new geometry-based shallow underwater acoustic (UWA) channel model allowing for nonisovelocity ocean conditions. The fact that the isovelocity assumption does not hold in many real-world scenarios motivates the need for developing channel models for nonisovelocity UWA propagation environments. Starting from a geometrical model, we develop a stochastic channel model for a single- input single- output (SISO) vehicle-to-vehicle UWA channel assuming that the ocean surface and bottom are rough and that the speed of sound varies with depth. The effect of the nonisovelocity condition has been assessed regarding its influence on the temporal autocorrelation function, the frequency correlation function (FCF), and the power delay profile of the UWA channel model. The UWA channel model has also been validated by matching its FCF as well as the therefrom derived main characteristic quantities, such as the average delay, delay spread, and coherence bandwidth againstmeasurement data. The proposed UWA channelmodel is very useful for the design and performance analysis of UWA communication systems under realistic propagation conditions.

This paper derives the analytical expression of the temporal autocorrelation function (ACF) of the non-stationary three dimensional (3D) multipath scattering channels, in which scatterers move with constant velocities in random directions around transceivers. The analytical expression involves high dimensional integration within finite interval, thus a methodology based on ray-tracing is proposed to carry out its numerical solution. The analytical expression and the corresponding ray-tracing based model serve as the canonical forms for the correlation analysis of non-stationary 3D multipath scattering channels, which include two special cases: two dimensional (2D) multipath scattering and stationary multipath scattering. Numerical results show that: in case of non-stationary 3D multipath scattering, with the increase of the velocity and the density of scatterers, the temporal ACF would attenuate more rapidly. These results would allow engineers more appropriate determination on coherence time and coherence bandwidth for vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems.

Measured temporal autocorrelation function the fluctuations of the scattered radiation of the focused laser beam (0.63 mu m) in the surface atmosphere in rain, drizzle and fog on the highway with a length of 130 m. Found that the time correlation of the fluctuations of the scattered radiation of the focused laser beam in the rain and drizzle decreases with increasing perpendicular component to the path the wind speed is at close to atmospheric conditions (with close values of optical depth and particle size of atmospheric precipitation). The time correlation in the fog more, than the time correlation in the drizzle. It is an order of magnitude or more greater than in the rain.

Time averaging is a well-known technique for evaluating the temporal autocorrelation function (ACF) from a sample function of a stochastic process. For stochastic processes that can be modelled as a sum of plane waves, it is shown that the ACF obtained by time averaging can be expressed as a sum of auto-terms (ATs) and cross-terms (CTs). The ATs result from the autocorrelation of the individual plane waves, while the CTs are due to the cross-correlation between different plane wave components. The CTs cause an estimation error of the ACF. This estimation error increases as the observation time decreases. For the practically important case that the observation time interval is limited, we propose a new improved method for estimating the time ACF of a sum of plane waves. The main idea behind the proposed method is to introduce a kernel function aiming to reduce the CT effect, while preserving the ATs. In this way, we can improve the estimation of the ACF. We show that the proposed method outperforms the standard time averaging technique. The performance of both methods is evaluated using a synthetic channel model consisting of a sum of complex plane waves.

We have investigated a temporal amplitude autocorrelation function of multiply backscattered light from aggregated particles in a dense colloidal suspension. It is shown that the measured amplitude autocorrelation function for aggregated particles deviates from the theory of diffusing wave spectroscopy obtained for the multiple light scattering from homogeneously dispersed particles. We introduce a sum of temporal amplitude autocorrelation functions of the single and multiple scatterings as a model of the temporal autocorrelation function. The temporal autocorrelation functions of the single and multiple scatterings can be estimated by means of fitting the experimental data to the model function. Reliable particle sizing of clusters in the dense medium can be performed by employing the multiple scattering autocorrelation function in the short elapsed time and the single scattering autocorrelation function in the long elapsed time from the time when particles begin aggregating. Consequently, we propose a new monitoring method of the particle aggregation and a particle sizing method of clusters in the dense colloidal suspension.

In this work, we have calculated analytically the temporal autocorrelation function of the electrical field component of multiply scattered coherent light transmitted through an anisotropically scattering media irradiated with a plane ultrasonic wave. The accuracy of the analytical solution is verified with an independent Monte Carlo simulation for different values of the ultrasonic and optical parameters. The analytical model shows that an approximate similarity relation exists; if the reduced scattering coefficient is unchanged regardless of the mean cosine of the scattering angle, the autocorrelation function remains approximately the same.

The dynamic light scattering has been a powerful tool in measuring the size of a cluster produced by particle aggregation. This technique can be applied to only tenuous or diluted media since it has been developed on the basis of the single scattering theory. In the recent years, in situ monitoring of the aggregation process in dense scattering media has been needed in the biological diagnostics and chemical industry. We investigate a temporal autocorrelation function of light scattered multiply from aggregated particles in dense colloidal suspensions. In the experiments, the particle distribution was controlled by adding the NaCl solution to the colloidal suspension of polystyrene latex beads at 10% volume fraction. It is shown that the temporal autocorrelation function is composed from the contributions of single and multiple scatterings of light. The relaxation time of the temporal autocorrelation function increases as the aggregation of particles progresses and, therefore, its variation is related with the growth of clusters. Moreover, we estimate the number of particles included inside one cluster using the decreasing rate of the temporal autocorrelation function of the single or the multiply scattered light. As a result, the components of single and multiple scatterings of light are available for the measurements of the clusters composed from a few particles and of many particles, respectively.

The reproducible models of biomedical optics, the measurements of chemical compounds, the aggregations of particles and so on require the statistical space-time properties of the multiply scattered light in laboratories to be analyzed quantitatively. A cluster-cluster structure in fractal media is replaced with a polydisperse random medium by renormalizing a cluster to a particle. As the particle size-distributions, a simple summation of particles with two radii, a Gaussian function and a power law function were used in numerical simulations. The light scattered from particles inside a cluster affects a decreasing rate of the backscattering intensity cone but not a relaxation time of autocorrelation functions of the time-varying intensity. On the contrary, the movement of the cluster affects strongly the relaxation time through the diffusion constant but not a decreasing rate of the backscattering intensity enhancement. As a result, it is concluded that the temporal autocorrelation functions of the time-varying light intensity scattered multiply fi om the cluster-cluster structure are applicable to measure the averaged cluster size of aggregations.
