This study presents a method for generating a three-dimensional (3D) array of multifocal spots within a highnumerical aperture (NA) optical system without the influence of zero-order light is proposed, facilitating the creation of a 3D array optical tweezers system capable of trapping multiple particles simultaneously. By integrating a two-dimensional (2D) transverse multifocal spot array with a one-dimensional (1D) longitudinal multifocal spot array, a technique is proposed employing a continuous phase grating combined with an areadivided phase encoding method. This approach enables phase-only modulation to generate the desired 3D multifocal spots array with controllable intensity, representing significant progress for applications requiring high precision in particle manipulation. In the experimental demonstration, arrays of silica microspheres were successfully trapped and dynamically manipulate using the proposed multifocal spots array encoding. Specifically, a 3 x 3 x 3 array and a 5 x 5 array were stably trapped, and a 1 x 2 three-column array is dynamically manipulated, showcasing the system's capability to manipulate a large number of particles in a 3D configuration. The optical tweezers system presented herein holds great potential for applications in optical micromanipulation, microscopy, and the study of crystal materials. The experimental results validate the theoretical simulations and demonstrate the effectiveness of the 3D array optical tweezers system in achieving stable and precise particle capture.

New three-dimensional memory array architecture for future ultrahigh-density DRAM

In this paper, a three-dimensional (3-D) memory array architecture is proposed. This new architecture is realized by stacking several cells in series vertically on each cell located in a two-dimensional array matrix. Therefore, this memory array architecture has a conventional horizontal row and column address and new vertical row address. The total bit-line capacitance of this proposed architecture's DRAM is suppressed to 37% of normal DRAM when one bit-line has 1-Kbit cells and the same design rules are used. Moreover, an array area of 1-Mbit DRAM using the proposed architecture is reduced to 11.5% of normal DRAM using the same design rules. This proposed architecture's DRAM can realize small bit-line capacitance and small array area simultaneously. Therefore, this proposed 3-D memory array architecture is suitable for future ultrahigh-density DRAM.

Investigation of fluid-structure interaction of micropillars in a three-dimensional microfluidic DLD array

Deterministic lateral displacement (DLD) is a microfluidic passive method for bioparticle separation and isolation, based on particle size and shape with high sample volume and low latency. Despite widespread application and research, experts report various fundamental, practical, and commercial challenges faced in the field of DLD represented in the literature. One of the fundamental challenges is the fluid's flow behaviour and the fluid-structure interaction inside the DLD array. To address this problem, this paper investigates the modelling of a three-dimensional DLD array constructed by considering lateral displacements and wall boundaries. Nine different geometric shapes of the symmetrical pillars are reported in the literature opted for the study which are examined with different velocities to analyse how pillar shape impacts the flow patterns inside the DLD array. Also, an investigation of the two-way interaction between the fluid and the pillar structure is carried out. The response of the fluid due to the interaction with the pillar and the pillar response due to the interaction with the fluids is reported. Additionally, the realistic influence of the fluid flow and the surrounding pillars on the middle pillar in the array are examined in 3D simulations. The simulation was carried out using the finite element software COMSOL Multiphysics.

A method has been proposed for the formation of three-dimensional arrays of isolated magnetic clusters NiO, Co3O4, and NiCo2O4 in the sublattice of pores in the matrix of bulk synthetic opals through a single impregnation of the pores with melts of nickel and cobalt nitrate crystal hydrates and their thermal degradation. The method makes it possible to controllably vary the degree of filling of pores in the matrix with oxides within 10-70 vol %. The composition and structure of the synthesized materials, as well as the dependences of their static magnetic susceptibility on the magnetic field strength, have been investigated.

Microstructure and electronic properties of Cu/Mo multilayers and three-dimensional arrays of nanocrystalline Cu precipitates embedded in a Mo matrix

Nanostructured Cu/Mo multilayers were prepared by magnetron sputtering. The thickness of the Cu layer was kept constant at 0.6 nm, while the thickness of the Mo layers varied from 2.5 to 20 nm for different specimens. The Cu layers exhibit a body centered cubic (bcc) structure and the interface between Cu and Mo remains sharp and planar in all specimens. Annealing of a Cu 0.6 nm/Mo 20 nm multilayer produced three-dimensional arrays of Cu nanoparticles lying along the previous interface. These Cu nanoparticles have an average particle size of roughly 2 nm with a bcc structure. Temperature-dependent resistivity measurements in as-deposited and annealed samples are reported. These data indicate that carrier scattering changes markedly as the system evolves from one that consists predominantly of planar interfaces to one dominated by spherical scattering centers. We consider the effect of spatial-dispersion-induced birefringence in metamaterial composed of isotropic spheres located in the sites of a cubic lattice. Strong anisotropy of such metamaterial due to nonlocality is demonstrated both numerically and analytically. For metamaterial composed of dielectric disks, we explore electromagnetic modes that are not captured by the local effective medium model, namely, the longitudinal magnetic mode.

Despite the theory for both Rayleigh and Love waves being well accepted and the theoretical predictions accurately matching observations, the direct observation of their quantifiable decay with depth has never been measured in the Earth's crust. In this work, we present observations of the quantifiable decay with depth of surface-wave eigenfunctions. This is done by making direct observations of both Rayleigh-wave and Love-wave eigenfunction amplitudes over a range of depths using data collected at the 3D Homestake array for a suite of nearby mine blasts. Observations of amplitudes over a range of frequencies from 0.4 to 1.2 Hz are consistent with theoretical eigenfunction predictions. They show a clear exponential decay of amplitudes with increasing depth and a reversal in sign of the radial-component Rayleigh-wave eigenfunction at large depths, as predicted for fundamental-mode Rayleigh waves. Minor discrepancies between the observed eigenfunctions and those predicted using estimates of the local velocity structure suggest that the observed eigenfunctions could be used to improve the velocity model. Our results confirm that both Rayleigh and Love waves have the depth dependence that they have long been assumed to have. This is an important direct validation of a classic theoretical result in geophysics and provides new observational evidence that classical seismological surface-wave theory can be used to accurately infer properties of Earth structure and earthquake sources.

The paper describes the implementation of a large three-dimensional array of microphones to estimate the directivity pattern of sound sources in reverberant environments. In the presented experiment, the microphones are flush mounted on the walls of a rectangular room. In order to identify the directivity pattern of a complex source located inside the room, an adapted beamforming method is proposed. Early reflections are considered to approximate the propagation path in the room, useful to solve accurately the inverse problem. Firstly, the source location is estimated inside the room. A set of pressure signals is processed onto a virtual point sphere surrounding the source. From this set, a sparse representation of the source is computed using spherical harmonics decomposition. Because the estimate of the DP highly depends on the centering of the SH basis, an optimization step is performed to match the center of the sphere with the source location. The radiation pattern of an unbaffled loudspeaker is evaluated to assert the efficiency of the method.

For any wireless communications antenna system becomes indispensable. In this paper we analyzed linear array, planar array and three - dimensional (3D) array antennas. The array systems are simulated in Matlab based on uniform linear array antennas. Comparisons between planar array antenna and 3D array antenna are provided take into account different phases of currents injected in antenna elements. Also we propose to use the array antenna in WSN due to the advantages in signal to noise ratio and power consumption.

The phenomena of superdirectivity is explored for subwavelength spaced antenna subarrays. Then a larger multi-dimensional antenna array is composed to achieve higher directivity and better beamforming performance. Different methods for optimizing directivity, realized gain and total efficiency of arbitrary antenna array are investigated and applied in the design of such multi-dimensional array. All the results in this paper are verified by commercial full-wave simulator.
