Extraction and Segmentation of Sputum Cells for Lung Cancer Early Diagnosis

Lung cancer has been the largest cause of cancer deaths worldwide with an overall 5-year survival rate of only 15%. Its symptoms can be found exclusively in advanced stages where the chances for patients to survive are very low, thus making the mortality rate the highest among all other types of cancer. The present work deals with the attempt to design computer-aided detection or diagnosis (CAD) systems for early detection of lung cancer based on the analysis of sputum color images. The aim is to reduce the false negative rate and to increase the true positive rate as much as possible. The early detection of lung cancer from sputum images is a challenging problem, due to both the structure of the cancer cells and the stained method which are employed in the formulation of the sputum cells. We present here a framework for the extraction and segmentation of sputum cells in sputum images using, respectively, a threshold classifier, a Bayesian classification and mean shift segmentation. Our methods are validated and compared with other competitive techniques via a series of experimentation conducted with a data set of 100 images. The extraction and segmentation results will be used as a base for a CAD system for early detection of lung cancer which will improve the chances of survival for the patient.

For the camera optical system aberration, scene image observed by the robot will be disturbed by noise such as illumination, motion, and other noise interference, which will bring visual positioning error, lead to wrong expression of topological structure for the environment, and affect the robustness of Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM). How to control the accumulation effectively and enhance the effectiveness, robustness and real-time of visual SLAM is a challenging research topic. The fuzzy image set is constructed according to the blurred image. This paper proposed a processing techniques of fuzzy image based on image enhancement. (1) The threshold algorithm is employed to improve the histogram equalization algorithm in image enhancement field. (2) The fuzzy set of illumination is constructed offline and the gray scale histogram of the original image is stretched in nonlinear to increase the dynamic range of the gray value of the pixel. (3) The illumination fuzzy set is integrated into the SLAM, and then the visual odometry, closed-loop detection module of SLAM are tested on the basis of the quantitative experiment in the actual scene. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is robust to SLAM and have good real - time performance.

Video steganography is the technique where the users keep their data secret, which also embeds and extracts the data. It has lots of information stored in each and every frame. Moreover, the particular key-frames in each video are extracted using the average threshold algorithm. The data is hidden inside the least bit of the selected key frames. The presence of message in video will not be visible by attackers since it is available only for a fraction of time. Using this methodology, the performance of video steganography has been increased effectively.

Large centrifugal water pumps are widely applied in various water-supply and drainage systems. The vacuum-pumping is pre-requisite for their start-up so that the intelligent vacuum-pumping detection device utilizing STM32F103 as the main controller was presented to realize the automatic control especially of unattended pumps. A differential pressure transducer was adopted to measure the vacuum degree in pump chamber. Afterwards, an electrical signal of corresponding value was output, and then entered the ADC of STM32F103 after conditioning. The threshold algorithm was introduced for the judgement whether vacuum-pumping had been accomplished. Actual applications indicated this detection device was feasible and reliable, and the judgement algorithm was simply implemented and performed well in practice.

This paper studies the bit loading algorithm for adaptive OFDM transmission system, and proposes an improved scheme called shifting-threshold algorithm. Using computer simulations, we show that the OFDM system employing the shifting threshold algorithm can enhance bit rate. On BER performance, the shifting threshold algorithm is better than fixed threshold algorithm.

The brain is the most important part in human body. In order to determine and evaluate the activities of the body, brain signals measured using non-invasive technique functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) will be investigated. In this paper, Oxy- Hb signals in the cerebral cortex that was collected from 24 channels put into preprocessing to smooth using a Savitzky - Golay filter. Data removed noise will be transformed discrete wavelets into different frequency components. threshold algorithms are applied to identify the channels (the mobile areas) that have Oxy - Hb changes while biting spacer and lifting object. This research is conducted experiments on five subjects with changes of biting or lifting for collection of the Oxy - Hb changes on the mobile areas. This method will help researchers save a lot of effort and archive the proper assessment of human activities through brain signals.

The construction industry accounts for nearly half of all industry-related fatalities in Taiwan. Identified as the leading cause of such fatalities for several decades, falls also contribute to almost half of work-related fatalities. Given the strenuous nature of construction work, workers are prone to loss of awareness and balance, increasing the safety risk and number of fall accidents. Previous studies have indicated that loss of awareness may be the major cause of occupational injuries or fatalities, and identified the strong correlation between falls and loss of balance. Thus, real-time monitoring of the mental and balance conditions of workers may help identify fall portents, and thus prevent falls from happening. This paper describes a framework for developing a personal safety monitoring system based on a smartphone, which receives external signals wirelessly from motion sensors and brain wave sensors attached to a vest and inside a helmet, and transmit these signals to a monitoring server for further analysis. This paper also presents an experiment with preliminary findings regarding the detection of fall portents, using the internal motion sensors of a smartphone. In the experiment, participants performed a tiling task on a scaffold under four physiological statuses. We identified the fall portents based on the self-awareness of the participants, hazardous actions performed by the participants, and outsider observations by experiment administrators. An accelerometer-based threshold algorithm was tested, and its performance was evaluated against the identified fall portents. The results indicated that the work-related motions had a limited impact on the detection algorithm. The accuracy for the sleepiness, fatigue, normal, and inebriation statuses were 92.3%, 90.4%, 77.3%, and 68.8%, respectively. This research develops the concept of CBIR on the image motif. For processes that do not only find images that have been stored in database, but also be able to recognize some resemblance ornament image or texture as well as form. Although different size, direction of slope, and the layout of texture and shape, but the concept will be recognized. In calculating the percentage of similarity is not only based on performance measurement precision but also the image of the relevant. From the results of over 250 studies batik motif images and 25 images in the database query, it is used for texture feature extraction methods canny edge detection and shape invariant moment feature extraction. For the calculation of the similarity distance and Canberra distance is used euclid functions. threshold algorithm which will display the image based on the value of the highest grade representation on each image query, followed by comparing the results of feature extraction using the operator min on fuzzy logic to generate maximum value. Excess threshold algorithm, compared with other methods lies in simplicity retrieval method in the image, so that the performance of CBIR becomes more reliable and effective.

The quantum multi-user detection technique with quantum detection under quantum multiple-access channel is a promising field in communications, it has promised an efficient solution to the NP hard problem in conventional optimal solution of multi-user detection. In this paper, a solution of multi-user detection in multi-access quantum channel based on the quantum square-root measurement is proposed, by which the minimum square-root probability of error can be gathered, and the probability of symbol error under various correlation coefficients with OOK and PSK modulation is evaluated. Compared with OOK modulation, the performance of PSK modulation can be improved greatly, but with high computation complexity. Then, a threshold algorithm and a new quantum square-root measurement formula are developed to reduce the computation complexity. The numerical experiments show that these methods can lower the complexity greatly.

In order to achieve real-time monitoring and management of tool inventory, design a remote monitoring system for tool inventory based on multi terminal regulation of server network nodes. By establishing server nodes and corresponding multi terminal control modules, the system can achieve load balancing, fault tolerance, and data storage functions. By implementing a threshold algorithm for tool inventory alarm, the inventory quantity of tools can be monitored and judged in real time, and abnormal inventory situations can be detected in a timely manner, triggering an alarm mechanism. At the same time, a hierarchical permission algorithm is adopted for user permission management to improve the data security and information confidentiality of the system. The experimental results show that the system can efficiently manage tool inventory and achieve remote monitoring and control to meet the requirements of real-time and reliability.
