This study addresses the autopilot design problem for a bank-to-turn missile to improve the manoeuvrability. A modified dynamic model is introduced by adding new reaction jet inputs to provide extra manouvrability. The H_ index, which is defined as the minimum singularvalue of the transferfunction, is utilised to assess the manoeuvrability and the autopilot design problem is then transformed to a problem of H_ index controller design. An iterative linear matrix inequality algorithm is presented to obtain the control law. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
