In this paper, a new mobile application system that controls health avatars on mobile devices is proposed. The status of health avatars reflects personal physical state of a user, which is converted and estimated by data gathered from sensors attached to exercise equipment or from the time spent on a specific exercise routine on specific equipment installed in a U-Health park. Especially in this paper, we confine ourselves on introduction to a metadata application system that converts sensor signals to MPEG-V International Standard data format (ISO/IEC 23005-5). The proposed system utilizes the biometric metadata written in standard data formats from sensors to visualize virtual world health avatars, which make users recognize their health condition without difficulty. The health avatar system and its application scenario are presented in this paper.

When a picture contains non-translational motions in it, a picture-level parametric motion model can be more efficient than the block-based translational motion model because the former has small number of parameters that can replace many motion vectors of individual blocks. In addition, the former can represent the deformation of the image better than the latter. Based on this idea, we detected multiple homography transformations between a reference and a current picture. Then, we generated warped reference pictures 1 corresponding to the homographies and inserted the one of the warped reference pictures into reference picture lists. We measured the performance of the proposed algorithm using the test condition that is proposed by MPEG and ITU recently. Experimental result showed 3.1% overall bitrate saving under low delay & high efficiency condition and 3.5% overall bitrate saving under random access & high efficiency condition compared with TMuC 0.7.3.

We propose a segmented PCA based distributed framework exploiting the high correlation and dimensionality reduction properties of PCA in conjugation with the distributed source coding paradigm for onboard hyperspectral image compression. The hybrid scheme deploying Lossy Wyner Ziv coding in conjunction with statistically segmented PCA strategy exploits the two fold intra group and inter group correlation for establishment of multiple independent processing elements evenly distributing the cumulative encoder load over the entire system. The net performance of this flexible infrastructure scheme is further increased by utilizing the superior rate distortion performance of JPEG2000 for high fidelity reconstruction of side information crucial for corresponding Wyner Ziv decoding. The inherent parallelism and low encoder complexity of the proposed scheme not only makes it a viable candidate for onboard implementation but also conforms it to subsequent multi node transmission. Experimental analysis demonstrates that the proposed scheme offers a novel perspective and competitive performance as compared to other techniques in the same domain.

Nowadays, having the appropriate Electronic System Level (ESL) tools for power estimation in embedded systems is becoming mandatory. The main challenge for the design of such dedicated tools is to achieve a better trade-offs between accuracy and speed. In this paper, a new power consumption estimation methodology for embedded systems is proposed. First, the Functional Level Power Analysis (FLPA) is used to set up generic power models based on real board measurements. In the second step, a simulation framework is developed to evaluate accurately the architectural parameters of the elaborated power models. The proposed methodology has several benefits: it improves significantly the accuracy of the functional level approach and the power consumption estimation can be accomplished without a costly and complex material. In order to speed up the estimation process, our methodology refers to the selection of data pattern size and to the application sampling technique. Experimental results show that our tool achieves high simulation speed of 21 times faster with a marginal power estimation error of 1%.

The scheduling at compile-time of dynamic dataflow programs is still an open problem. This paper presents some initial results showing that scheduling of dynamic portions of CAL dataflow networks can be reduced to static scheduling by the analysis of the state space of network partitions. The CAL sub-network is converted to an equivalent Promela program and analyzed using a state analysis tool (SPIN) identifying deterministic schedules that link recurring network execution states. Therefore, the only dynamic operation of the scheduler remains the guard evaluations between states linked by the obtained deterministic schedules. Experiments show that the number of operations employed by dynamic schedulers is largely reduced when the schedules extracted by the state analysis are employed.

This paper introduces two new compression methods. One of these methods is adaptive and powerful for the compression of hyperspectral data, which is based on separating the bands with different specifications by the histogram analyzes and new version of Binary Hybrid GA-PSO (BHGAPSO) and compressing each one with a different manner. The new proposed methods improve the compression ratio of the JPEG standards and save storage space the transmission system. The proposed methods are applied on different test cases, and the results are evaluated and compared with some other compression methods, such as lossless JPEG and JPEG2000.

Then, we detail the early algorithms that have been developed for solving the temporal placement problem. Next we introduced a new temporal placement algorithm that aims to reduce the routing cast between modules. Digital watermarking techniques have been used as one of the means for copyright protection and authentication of multimedia data. Conventional Singular Value Decomposition (SVD)-based and Chinese Remainder Theorem (CRT)-based spatial domain watermark techniques do not perform well under JPEG compression. However, it is seen that the CRT-based watermarking technique in Discrete Cosine transform (DCT) domain performs well for JPEG compression. In the current paper, we presented an improved CRT-based DCT domain watermarking scheme. This method is shown to be more robust against cropping, tampering, addition of noise and JPEG compression. The existing CRT-based DCT domain technique results in increase in Tamper Assessment Function (TAF) due to the conversion into DCT domain, whereas the proposed method is shown to reduce TAF under DCT conversion.

In this paper a modified image coding scheme based on discrete fuzzy transform is presented. In this method, the image is partitioned in to subimages of size 16×16, then any compressed subimage is obtained using fuzzy transform and uniform quantization according to the standard deviation of subimage. These subimages are decompressed with the related inverse fuzzy transform and recomposed for the reconstruction of the image. This method allows the user to select regions of interest and to compress each one with different quality factor. A comparison with the fuzzy-based image coding scheme (FTR) and JPEG method is performed. Experimental results show that the proposed method performs better than FTR and JPEG, especially for images with a low and medium level of details.
